I would love to see a history/notes area. I like to keep detailed histories of my characters. A simple memo section would be great.
As a Delphi programmer and I am impressed with HD. Thanks.

You can either use any of the existing fields on the background tab or rename any of them to suit your needs.

Renaming will require a (very simple) template edit.

I would like to add a memo field. I do not want to rename the existing backround fields. Is it possible to add a memo field?

No, you will need to use/rename one of the existing fields.

To be clear, what you would be looking to do would be to, for example, change the label on the "Campaign Use" field to read "Memo" or "Notes" or whatever you want.

The number of fields that are available on the background tab are fixed, but you can change how many of them display and what they are labeled within the template.

What I wanted was an extra memo field. The ones on the backround tab are great and I like to use all of them. Could a new memo field be added in the next version? Another possible feature for this new history memo field would be a hot key combo (like control-I) that would add a date/time stamp.
Thanks for your responses.

I understand what you want.

There are, IMO, <b>plenty</b> of background fields.

To be very clear: Your <b>only</b> option is to use one of the existing fields. You can rename them to your heart's delight, but you cannot add in new ones and I have no intention of making any new ones available at this time.

I can't possibly know what Dan is thinking, but perhaps the reason for the answer is that there simply isn't room within the parameters of the program. Understand that I am not speaking for Dan; I'm merely guessing.

Looking at the interface, there just isn't room to create another tab for GM notes, and it would be too difficult to add it. Also, there isn't any room on the background card for another text field if you are planning to use all of them.

There may also not be any way to hold onto the information in another text field without changing the engine itself. In short, while your idea is a good one, and makes sense from a GM perspective to have notes for/about the character kept with the character it is just too complex and difficult to do at this time.

So basically you are going to have to rely on W*rd, E%cel or one of the other wonderful office products that are available from various vendors to put the information in.

I am not a JAVA programmer and I do not know the inner workings of the HD program. Saying that, I still think an extra tab for history is good idea. I

I repeat: it's not going to happen.

Not because it is difficult to program. Not because of any constraints within the application or the code.

Simply because part of my job is to evaluate how the application will be grown and to ensure that the growth of the application does not result in it becoming overly complex, cumbersome, or unwieldy. I will not be adding in every single feature that anyone asks for. This is an example of one that I do not feel is necessary and one which I feel will simply bog down the application.

You currently have 6 customizable free form text entry fields. You can use any one of them (renaming them in the template if you don't want to go with the label already given). I see no need to add in a seventh field and I will not be creating an extra tab for it.
