I've just had to reinstal my operating system and apps from scratch (win2k) and thus had to reinstall Hero Designer as well.

I installed from the original installer, downloaded the final revision (1.47), and used the "Upgrade to v.2" tool to get the v.2 update.

I deleted Hero Designer.jar and update.jar and renamed Hero Designer.v2 to Hero Designer.jar, and copied the latest update.jar into the HD directory.

When HD loads, it shows the version number as 2.0.48 but the security check persists in telling me it is out of date. I've downloaded the 2.0.48 update twice (suspecting a corrupted file), but I got the same results.

Any idea what's going on here? I haven't had any trouble with udating before this new install of HD.

That sounds very much like you made a mistake during the upgrade from v1 to v2 (note: this won't be an issue for the final release).

Make sure that there is a space in the name of "Hero Designer.jar" and that it is not called "HeroDesigner.jar", as in v1.

That's about the only thing that I can think of offhand....if the splash screen says 2.0.48, then it sounds like you've got a good download, so it's just a matter of the main jar file being correct....

Well, thanks to the magic of Secret Windows Pixies, it's now working. Who knows why; I've been grinding my way through Windows Update so maybe it's something from there.

I think I'll just stop expecting my computer to work in any kind or rational or predicatble fashion :)
