Has anyone thought of using NBOS Software's new program Screen Monkey to play HERO online?

I haven't tried it out yet, but it looks encouraging.

While I haven't tried this program out, it looks essentially the same as many other programs out there. My recommendation is to save yourself the 31.50 and get OpenRPG. It's free and has a suprisingly good support system. There are also a LOT of people running servers with it so finding games and players is usually a snap. Also, the developers have a game server up and if if go there, there's usually a programmer on. They usually answer any question you can think of.
