  1. DragonQuest Conversion—Early Thoughts

Here's a sentiment you might familiar...

The DragonQuest rules are intended to guide the GM, not to restrict him.

A nice way to start a rulebook.

DQ uses a hex-based system where one hex equals five feet. As far as I'm concerned this is "close enough for government work" when converting over to HERO. Hexes will equal hexes.

Also, the stats are, not surprisingly, somewhat similar. However there's a Magical Aptitude characteristic ...
  2. DragonQuest Conversion Begins

Well, it's going to take a long time, but I'm finally going to start converting DragonQuest by SPI into Hero-ise.

I'm looking forward to this project because it means I'll know DQ inside and out by the time I'm done, and because I'll be much more familiar with FH as well.

I've been fascinated with DQ ever since I started looking for alternatives to D&D in the early '80s. As a "classless" system with a very nifty and realistic seeming combat engine, it ...
  3. The Post-Apocalypse Game (The Lost Session - 11.17.07)

Well, we could have played today...

We were supposed to play today...

    But we didn't...

Ah, I'll tell you. One of our players, Oz, decided that it would be more fun to sleep in past our 2pm start time.

He mumbled something to his roommate about having a deadline to meet, but that's hard to believe considering he should have known about the project for at least a few days.

    Who knows what fun ...

  4. Post-Apocalypse Game—Stirring Up a Hornet's Nest? (11.11.07)

    "This just isn't happening..."
—Jimmy Ardik to Rodak Weston on crossing the river

So, we ended last session poised to leave town...

Before we really got rolling there was a very thorough discussion about how hunting would work and about the nature of the game. (Our GM wants to emphasize survival, understandable in a PA game, so then we talked about that as well.)

The party set out following the river that backs up to form the reservoir ...

  5. The Post-Apocalypse Game (The First Session - 11.03.07)

This was just a little get us acquainted session, but I wanted to post something before another session came and went.

Docc & Jimmy, having heard that Falls is going to be sending parties out to scavenge to keep up with nearby Three Rivers, make their way to the settlement.

Falls turns out to be a very strict religious community with a battered, though still functional, hydro-electric dam. As they make their way into town, they notice a residential, then trading, ...
