A brief history of the Batagh

Rate this Entry
In an earlier age, Orcs were bred to fill the ranks of dark armies and plagued the Civilized and Wise peoples of all the lands. They were no more than savage slaves, shackled to the will of Evil Deities and blood-thirsty overlords for untold generations. Either by accident or as part of some cruel design, the Orcs interbred with the peoples they warred against. Of all the mixed pairings, those born of union between Human and Orc proved most resilient. Human intellect and charisma proved to compliment Orc strength and stamina. Half-Orcs began to dominate the Orc Hordes throughout the world.

In the wars and catastrophes which ended the last age and gave rise to the new, the Orcs all but died out. Denied the power and guidance of the demons and gods which for so long dominated their destiny, they became scattered, unable to survive the challenges of the Long Night. Only those Orc bloodlines with significant Human heritage, the Batagh were capable of adapting to the changes in the world.

The Batagh still retain much of their Orcish ancestry. They are strong and enduring, but with a willpower and clever insight to match. The Batagh have grown in the North in the Wilderness and have forged their own society. No longer a horde craving direction from a single will, the Batagh have towns and fortified cities nested deep within the hills and trackless wildernesses, where few save the most courageous or foolhardy dare to tread.

And the Batagh have come to the cities of Men. Not as raiders or invaders, but as settlers and immigrants. Like all in this new Age, even the savage descendants of Orcs are drawn to the promise and potential of the shining metropolis. Eager to take advantage of the opportunities afforded the bold or the desperate.
