2:30 this am, the dog gets up and runs out to the living room and barks. Not a vicious bark (my dog doesn't have that one) but his steady "Hey, there's a cat in the yard" bark. I try to ignore it. But he keeps at it. I then realize I can hear helicopters.

So I get up, slip on my jeans and t-shirt and walk out to find a cop car parked (across the end of my drive way), and two more just a couple houses down, one of those with its lights flashing. As we stand there I can see a team of 3 officers going down the opposite side of the street--One with his assault weapon out, another with a pistol (lowered) and flashlight, and the third with a flashlight, knocking on doors. There's a helicopter flying over head with a spotlight.

So I checked out my house and yard, with nothing unusual. After a 2 hours they made their way to my house and searched the back yard. I asked them to have someone move the cop car from my driveway, since it was blocking my exit.

No idea what was going on and they weren't volunteering info. Just "Obviously we're looking for someone".

This is on the heels of the fact that last month the police in the neighboring city beat a homeless man to death just about 500 feet from my old apartment that I lived in for 15 years. (I wonder if it was the one that used to sleep next to my car?)

I thought this was the age of instant news? How come I can't find anything about a dragnet being performed on my street?

Anyway, that is your Orange County police blotter update.

I've been a part of many, many of those neighborhood searches. They never make the news. *shrugs*
