I tend to fall into a schedule. Some people call it a "rut". I call it a "path of convenience". Anyway, I usually save taking my dog to the duck park for Wednesdays. For some reason I got an itch to go on Tuesday.

So after walking my dog around the park, meeting a few other dog owners I usually see, I took my dog by some bushes. Something growled at me.

I glanced over and there was a tiny little dog (about 10lb) with tan fur, almost the same color as my dog. This guy had wirey fur, a little bit of a beard... I'm thinking maybe a Terrier/Scotty mix. Anyway, he was afraid of me so I backed up. I kept my dog from advancing. After a moment it wagged its tail and came forward and sniffed Henry (my dog).

I set some pepperoni treats on the sidewalk and he came out and had them. He and Henry played for a while on the grass, then it followed me around the park for a while. It wouldn't let me pet it, but it was definitely not a rabid wild beast. It was in good health, though it had no collar or tag, was a little bit dirty, but wasn't starving.

He followed us around for about 30 minutes but when I tried to get it toward my car it decided to go its own way. We taged a long for a while, but he seemed lest interested and my dog was trying to go another direction, so I left. But I kept thinking about it.

So yesterday I went back. I couldn't find him either in the same spot or around the park. I ran across another dog owner I'd seen the previous day and asked him, "have you seen the little dog that was following us yesterday?" He pointed to the same bushes, "He was over there 10 minutes ago." We made a beeline and he wasn't there.

I may give it one more try tonight. I'm off for a week starting tomorrow so I could take him home, get him to a vet after that, and then adopt him.

I don't think anyone is looking for him, mostly because there were not posters (usually there are lots of them in the area), and he had no tags or collar so I think he was not licensed. The area gets lots of people who raise dogs for resale under the table, which to me doesn't seem like it would have much profit, since you pay a lot to raise a dog.

I hope I find him. He seemed very sweet.

Not as much of a dog person, but I tend to deal with stray cats the same way.
