What Enthusiam Can't Address

I, so far, hate writing magic. I fumbled around rewriting the same paragraph for several hours. It shouldn't have been that difficult but magic isn't like an RPG. When writing, you can't make statements like The Wizard casts Illusion. No, it never works that way.

Magic is a character much like Vincent or Calla are characters. They are something I have to understand and know so that I can get their interactions down on paper. I have to be able to know how it looks, how it feels, how it even tastes before I can put the right words down. And as I found, that wasn't easy.

I found an out though, quite by accident. In this scene, Rakas is bragging to himself over how simple it was to do what he was doing. So if it is so easy, why did I try and make the feel of magic so complicated? And when I realized that, the answer came to me. Rakas casts his spell with but a flick of the wrist and a little bit of sparkle as the magic radiates from him. That's it.

Hopefully, this hump hasn't slowed down my momentum. I still plan on finishing Chapter 3 by Saturday. I have 2 1/2 days left to do this. Here's hoping I succeed.

Thanks again. Lets see, I'm averaging about a chapter every four days. That means I'll have completed the second draft of this novel in roughly two months, or November.
