Confessions of a Pedantic GM

Second Thoughts

So, I had my daughter at my house last weekend. My wife and step-daughter had gone shopping. I knew Hannah and I had to entertain ourselves. I had to work for an hour or so and took Hannah into the office with me. I made a quick stop at Hero Central and showed Hannah a picture of a combat scene done with miniatures and I could tell she was intrigued.

This was possibly the best chance I had to hook her with RPGing. "Ya know Hannah, I have minis at home and we could use them to play a game." Her eyes sort of lit up and I was pretty excited. We don't have a lot in common and through no fault of either of us, have a lot of baggage.

Long story short, we settled on a Star Wars game. I chose Tattooine and the PDQ system. We chose some qualities for her character and started play in a cantina in Mos Eisley. Hannah doesn't really make a lot of decisions in her day to day life, but seemed to enjoy, and possibly excel in the RPG environment.

We played for an hour or two and had a blast, ending the session on a cliff-hanger as she drove from a warehouse in a high-jacked land-truck with unknown stolen goods in the back.

It was really a great visit. Then, we went in the ditch while I was taking her home.

*sigh*

That is (censored) awesome! RPGs, bringing fathers and daughters closer since 2008. This makes me want to try with my 4 year old daughter even more.

Except for that going in the ditch part, I though this was very cool.
