My Traveller Game - The beginning, part 1

For my first blog post on the Hero boards, I’ll tell you about the face-to-face game I’m currently running. It’s a Traveller Hero game, set in the Traveller year 1250. Its after the civil war, the Virus, and the collapse of the Third Imperium. In fact, its using the setting from ComStar Game’s Out of the Darkness.

My gaming group consists of 7 players, playing 10 characters, and me running one NPC crew member (that one is by design). Its probably the biggest game I’ve ever run, at least in recent history. I ran a game at a con once with 8 or 10 players, but that was a long time ago. I think all my players have a presence on the Hero forums.

I’ll start by outlining the ship the crew is on. As you may or may not know, the Traveller universe is in pretty bad shape by this point in history. Actually, its in the process of climbing out of 100 odd years of civil war and technological collapse. The characters are aboard a 200 dton modified Type A Free Trader called the Outer Limit. The Outer Limit is a technological oddity in this era. She was lost during the Third Imperium era due to a misjump that put her into deep space. Most of the crew was lost (i.e. died) during that misjump. But two of the crew – the ship’s patron and the ship’s load master/trade specialist – survived. Of course, now they were in big trouble – in the middle of nowhere and without jump fuel. So, they full burned back toward known space and went into the low berths for a long sleep.

Eventually the Outer Limit was found, in 1249. By this time, the only survivor was the cargo master. The patron’s low berth failed and he was lost. As the sole survivor, the cargo master became the owner of the Outer Limit.

More to come…
