Area of 2m hex in square feet

This question has come up on the Hero boards on occasion: "What is the area of a hex in sq ft?"
The answer could actually be simple, except for one thing: there seems to be a disagreement about what is meant by a 2m hex. Some argue that (case a) the hex is measured from one corner to the exact opposite corner (through the "center" of the hex). Another argument (case b--and this is the position I hold) is that a 2m hex means that if I'm standing in the center of a hex and someone is standing in the center of an adjacent hex, then we are 2m apart. These are not the same things: if the 2m hex is measured as in case (a) above, 2 people standing in adjacent hexes would actually be 1.73m apart. While this would make a certain amount of sense (whom do you know, other than someone in the NBA, that has a 6.6 feet reach?), I don't think this is what the designers had in mind.
The attached PDF is what I believe the area of a hex is in sq ft. Note that I have indicated approximations where I've encountered them. Also, I have skipped some steps that I felt either should be obvious (such as the elementary algebra and/or trig).
If you have any questions, comments, fruit (Hey! I like fruit), please feel free to comment here, or PM me.
