Journey of 1000 Miles #30 - Drinking my dinner

Hi, my name is Bob, and I'm a fat man. (Hi, Bob).
Right now a 246 pound fat man, just 4 pounds over the 242 mark (one of my goals), just 16 pounds over the original goal I set for myself.
Gencon is coming. I usually date the start of my current fat loss from my return from GenCon 2007. I'd hoped to return to GenCon this year having lost at least one pound per week. I hope I make it.
Had a tooth pulled on Wednesday, and I've been on an all liquids diet since. For some people that would be an aid to fat loss; for me, it's a problem. I rely on fruits, vegetables, lowfat cheese and lean meats to keep my hunger under control. On an all liquid diet, I'm much hungrier, and I'm taking in more calories. This is a bad thing. I should be able to return to solid food next Wednesday, but in the meantime I'm having to put more effort into controlling my diet. Adding more EFAs has helped, but not much.
Finding healthful liquid meals wasn't a problem; I already drank two protein shakes a day, and going up to four or five wasn't a stretch. Fruit and vegetable juices finish closing the gap, and fulfill the basic rule of functional eating: Take in only foods that are worth the caloric cost.
I've also been getting calories from soups. Picking the right soups and juices follows the same rules as any other packaged food: Read the ingredients list. Avoid sugar, corn syrup, and the various renamed sugars ("evaporated cane juice", "turbinado" and similar silliness). Preferentially choose products with whole foods as their main ingredients (vegetables, fruits, whole grains). Check the nutrition information, and decide if the benefits are worth the calories.
It sounds tedious, but it gets to be second nature, and it does work.
Hopefully I'll manage to get through the next week.
