Just a quick note to let the Digital Hero subscribers know that we've just made two manuscripts available for playtesting: Monsters, Minions, And Marauders, our FH monsters book, and Sidekick, our "HERO System teaching tool" cut-down, simplified version of the HERO System rules (75% less text than other leading brands! ). If you have any questions or comments, please post them in the "Company Questions" thread of the same name.

One of my players wants to play a charector who wants to be able to make things ,including himself, grow by touching them with one hand and and shrink by touching them with the other. The effect on himself would only effect a body part. For example he could touch one arm,leg or whatever and it would grow muscular and large, be super strong and the other hand would return it to normal. Im not sure how to handle partial growth, or should I be thinking str for arms, running and superleap for the legs. And the effect on other items get even more confusing. Any suggestions?

Warning long explanation ahead! In my high-powered champiions campaign, superpowers are made possible by a tear in space/time, a rift. This rift alters reality, making superpowers possible. Now, there are places where reality is weak and transdimensional energy leaks thru sometimes. This is what allowed low powered supers before the opening of the rift in the mid 80's. Now due to the presence of the rift those areas are no longer weak. The rift was caused by a military experiment to make power armor that would use a nuclear explosion as a power source. It worked in all of the trials. So they had a big showing for a bunch of Military brass. WHen they set the bomb of …

Hovering robotic cameras (say 3) that follow the character and record him for later playback? I originally though Images, but the Clairisentience power retrocognition-only looked doable, but then I saw Eiditic Memory which is Clairisentience with a TON of shortcuts on it to make it cheaper (it looks like it's 20 pts with -3 in modifieries, with all those senses it should be at least 60 pts with -3 modifiers if bought normally.)

Is Defender's EMP pulse power useful against automatons and or comupter systems? If so which point total should it be compared to? Focused EMP Pulse: Dispel Any Electrical Power 16d6, Expanded Effect One At A Time (+1/4) (60 Active Points) (uses END Reserve) It seems that most systems that get shut down can just be restarted on the victim's next phase unless there is an extra time limitation associated.

Do the adventures in Champions Battlegrounds fit together as a Campaign? Not necessarily all making a coherant whole, but could one group of characters go through them all without any of them being too jarring in style or content?

I am a long long time gamer played my first game of basic DnD in 79 at the age of 5. Been through most of the games... spent a decade with ADnD a decade with WoD and a bunch of champions mixed in. After a 3 year hiatus due to moving away from my gaming troupe, I have decided to get back into PnP gaming. MMORPGs and the like on computers and consoles are just huge disappointing wastes of time. I want the meat and potatoes of RPGs... roleplaying. So i am here to kinda get up to speed with what everyone is playing and how 5th edition looks? I love the Hero system and Champions is definitely the game i want to play right now. My only hang up is the lack o…

So after helping several of my players (who are all new to Champions) write up their characters with no problems, one of them finally stumped me. Basically, he wants a few minor gadgets that I am not sure how to write up. They are: - A remote control camera he can attach to a wall or something and be able to see what it sees - A tracking device he can attach to villains, vehicles, etc... - A device to trick key card readers (remember that scene in Terminator 2 when young John Connors gets money from the ATM machine?) Thoughts? Any and all help is, as usual, appreciated. Chris

I am trying to create a ball lightning effect for one of my characters. I want the lightning to be able to act independently of the character to a limited degree (e.g. guard a location, etc.) Currently I am treating this as a summon automaton, whose main powers are desolidification and a (small) affects solids damage shield. The damage shield also has a side effect such that if it is used against a well-grounded target, the ball lightning explodes for extra damage (but destroying the ball lightning.) Another possibility would be to use an attack power to do the job. The problem is, in order for it to work the way I envision it, I would have to buy it as a 0 END …

Im wondering how it would be possible to make a voodoo doll in the hero system. You would need a personal item of the target like a lock of hair or a favorite comb. This would then be used in the magical ritual to construct the wax doll. After that, damage (or whatever you choose to do to the doll) could be applied to the target, even if they are half a world away. I realise that this is powerful but it is a common staple of some types of magical fantasy. I must admit Im stumped as to how it could be modeled in Hero. Ideas anyone?

Just wanted to let everyone know that our first new book in the Hero Plus line of e-books, Shades Of Black, is now available in the E-Books section of the Online Store! SOB, written by our own Allen Thomas, is a Champions adventure that pits the character against the evil Black Paladin and his followers. In addition to over 80 pages of text, the adventure has numerous maps (including a completely mapped out haunted mansion!) and three new villains. All this can be yours for a mere $12 -- so don't delay, order today!

I am running a stupidly ambitious champions campaign. The setting is dark, emerging powers set in 1980s New York. The flavour is x-filesish. The modus operandi is newspaper articles - ie I write lots of newspaper articles containing weirdness which the players can investiagte (or not). Some are links to long term plots, some one offs, some red herrings, some are mundane news articles to complete the newspaper page. You get the idea. Speed is slow - ie each session covers a couple of days of game play, so I have to write a couple of days' worth of news stories every month (our game interval) - generally about 4-6 new/follow up stories each day (a number of which are now ge…

I was just looking at Champions Universe when something amusing occurred to me. The chapter on the history of superhumans begins on page 6 with a picture apparently showing three different superhuman time periods. Golden Age (WW II) Modern Era Galactic Champions (I'm assuming) What occurred to me is that the hero (?) in the Galactic Champions scene has a chest emblem that looks maybe sort of Fox-ish, sort of Bat-ish. Makes you wonder.

With the number of magic-using characters running around the typical superhero campaign, does any sort of natural rivalry develop among magic-using superheroes and supervillains that is distinct from the normal rivalries between heroes and villains, and among heroes.

A friend of mine is stumped for a name for his character, and frankly so am I, so I thought I'd ask around here. The basic premise is that he's a knight from Arthurian times, though he fought on the side of Mordred and Morgana Le Fae (Fay? Fey? Whatever.), though he was decieved into thinking they were the good guys. His background got a little fuzzy here, so I'm not sure how (I'm guessing he died in an act of self-sacrifice to protect someone from the E.V.I.L. family), he wound up in Avalon. Later, in the 'here and now', he's let out into the world to truly redeem himself (the self-sacrifice was impressive and nice, but utterly didn't count for much). He h…

I obviously shouldn't be reading my new Hero book at work when it's pushing 100 degrees outside (and no air conditioning inside). "Fatal Attractions", the Hall of Mirrors map has a spot marked "1". Where's the reference to what the "1" stands for?

Hello all, It's been 10 years since I ran a Champions game and 2 years since I've run any game at all. So recently I jumped into running a game of Champions with my fiance and one of my friends. The first night was a test run to get the players familiar with their characters and to get us all a bit more familiar with the system. The end result was a reconnaisance mission by Calibre (who is hunted by VIPER) and Myst (an unknown telepath and telekinetic mutant). Myst was to investigate a supposed Nest and get any information about an ambassador that had been kidnapped and was rumored to be held there. Calibre, being hunted by VIPER because of his power…

Hello all I have a problem. I am presently running a WW2 superheroes campaign and I have a group of Heroes who have just had one of their number get captured. Now this normally wouldn't be problem except that none of the heroes have a prediliction to actually investigating everything. The players themselves can do it fine but their character just do not have the skills. I don't want NPC"s doing all the legwork but I cannot see any other way to handle it. Normally they are a sort of superhero commando team but I wanted to do something on the homefront for a change. Any suggestions?

I purchased Champions Battleground this week, and I'm most impressed with the product (especially the maps, way to go Keith). I think CB is the best-written adventure I have seen for any system in a long time. I do think DOJ made one big mistake. Not including the stats for all the villains in the book is a bad idea. I think some people will not pick this great book since they will need both Champions Universe and CKC to have the needed information on the different villains. I think WoTC still includes stats for all the monster in an adventure, even if they are already listed in the Monster Manual. I think making a free download of the villains (just the stats. …

"Pushing your players' buttons" is something that every GM is warned against doing too lightly. While it's one thing to give folks what they want, or stories they can really get into, you can push it too far. I'm not advocating that... but I confess, I'm curious. Are there any villains in the Champsverse that you personally find real easy to loathe? Are there some that you look FORWARD to having your character beat up on, even if your character him/herself wouldn't? For instance, while it's not 'loathing', one of my female players looks forward to tromping Bulldozer no matter WHAT character she's playing. His attitude just annoys, and I guess it is very gratify…
