Hello! I'm playing an AI that lives in power armor. I see that AI is one of the choices for a new character in Hero Designer. Is this what I should be using, or just go with superheroic (we have a 500 pt build)? Thanks

Hey all. The former user of this account is my dad. He lost a lot of his sight and it's hard for him to type or read on the computer. With his limited vision, he may be able to use Hero Designer still if there was some way to turn on a "dark mode" so the light doesn't hurt his eyes too much. Either that or if there was a way to increase the font size on the program or something. This would help him still make and play Champions characters. Does anyone here know any ways I could help him see hero designer again?

In Hero Designer, if you are creating a Martial Attack that does Flash Damage it will add the STR to the Flash Damage (1d6 per 5 STR). Problem is that Martial Attacks that do a Flash effect do not allow STR to increase the damage. How would you get Hero Designer to not increase the Flash Damage Based on STR?

Hello: I am very new to Hero Designer and Hero in general, so please pardon me if this is a stupid question. I am trying to make the Computer Programming skill behave like the Gambling skill (have categories and subcategories). I have created an extension template that modifies the Computer Programming skill. I have copy-pasted the Gambling skill XML from the Main6E template into it and edited the names to match the categories and subcategories I need. When I create a character using that template, Computer Programming skill charges 2 points for a category (good) and 2 points for a subcategory (bad). I cannot figure out what is going wrong. T…

Hello, I am have some problems trying to add powers to a superhero template for 5th Ed. Note: I am using the latest version of HD. My first problem is getting the template to load. When I create a new Superhero character and use the "Add Extension Template" the added power does not show in the list. However, if I create the new character using "Custom/Non-Standard Rules" and select the template it shows the added power. Is this normal behavior? My second problem is getting the new power to work the way I would like it too. I am trying to add Regeneration built like it was in 4th Ed. I started by copying the 6th Ed power from Main.6HD, then re…

Howdy Dan... is there a way to make certain Complications cost 0 points? In the game I'm gearing up to run, Template/Package Complications don't add to the matching amount needed, and I'm trying to put that into HD. I know I could use Custom Complication, but is there another way? Thanks in advance.

HD on Mac OS won't retain settings / saved characters. I set the security settings to give it full disk access, etc. and it still can't save data (settings, character list, etc.). I have gotten it to work in the past, but it doesn't want to now, no idea why. Anyone seeing this issue?

It's just a couple of additional characteristics, but I wouldn't know where to start editing a template Thanks

I know that Characteristic costs are defined in the rules template, but is there a way to change the base value? For example: the base for PD is 2, but how would you change it to 1 + (STR/10). Thanks!

Hi, I just noticed it was time to update HD (I had 4/18/23, and 7/15/23 is the newest version), but I have no idea what was updated. Would it be possible to include a changelog.pdf with the .zip download, or perhaps a webpage here on herogames.com that lists what was done with each revision? Thanks in advance for all your hard work!

Under "Martial Maneuvers" in the books, there is no "basic strike". It is mentioned only on 6E2pg90 as a reference to the default attack. Designer, however, has it listed under "Martial Arts" HTH options. For 3 points, you get +1 OCV and +3 DCs. Yet it costs 4 points for a "martial strike" (+2 DCV, +2 DCs) and 5 points for a "defensive strike" (+1 OCV, +3 DCV). 6E2pg99 says, "A character can use two CSLs to increase the damage done by a HTH or Ranged attack by one Damage Class." Since DCs cost 2x as much as OCV or DCV, why is "basic strike" cheaper than the others?

I thought I'd check before doing the work myself: Did anyone add the rules for Skill Combinations from HERO Skills (6e) to Hero Designer? (Or is it on there, and I'm just not seeing it.)

I am using an RTF export template for the characters for GenCon. Everything is exactly as perfect as I want it to be, except the character image is original size. I have been tinkering with the RTF tags to change the size of the image, but nothing seems to be happening. All the images are the exact same size (created by AI because my art talent is nonexistent). I know how big I want them to be in inches, and I could easily tinker/trial-and-error to figure out the percentage and/or point size...I just can't get the size to change. I have been playing with this for the past month off and on. Any assistance would be appreciated.

This may be a stupid question, but does the latest version of HERO Designer still support 5th Edition Hero?

Now, I doubt this will be a question easily answered, but I shall ask anyways. You see, I'm blind and use a screen reader to access stuff. How screen reader friendly is the hero designer? Considering it's Java, I'm guessing that I'd be buying a digital paperweight, but maybe not.

I occasionally consider Clairsentience for a character. One thing I noticed...in 5E, I couldn't see 2 significant adders...multiple perception points, and mobile perception points. Argh. Finally decided to check the 5E template. Yes...the adders are there, under Clairsentience. So...why are they not showing? Ohhhhhhhhhh...... The Source for those 2 adders is the UNTIL Database...and only that source. Even tho the descriptions cite the page references for Revised 5E...they're not listed as sources. If you go to Files -> Preferences -> Template, there's a page for Allowed Source Books (5th Edition Rules only) …

There was a forum from 2017 on changing font (see below). Do you have an updated version of this "for Dummies" or a YouTube video that I can follow to duplicate? Also, do you have a webpage that shows the various export formats? Are there non-.hde formats that you can download and edit? Thanks! "To use, you need to launch HD from the command line (or create a batch script) with the following: javaw -jar HD6.jar [font size] for example, the following would set the default font size throughout the application to 18pt: javaw -jar HD6.jar 18

When exporting (.hdr), the POWER_END has multiple meanings. If there is an END cost, it'll be a number. If not but there are charges, it'll be a weird "[n bc]" format where "n" is the number of charges and "bc" is only present if the charges are boostable. Is there any way to get only END or only charges? Alternatively, is there an IF that distinguishes between them so I can conditionally emit only one? -- Brian

As I understand it Java works on Linux. But I cannot figure a way to make it work on Android. I use Dex (Samsung) and would like to stop replacing my laptops. But hd is to valuable to me to switch. Has anyone figured a way for HD too work on Android? (I know it is not officially supported, but dang it would be awesome.)

Is there a way, in a .hcr file, to do a general "if/then/else" condition like: if str.total > 15 if xmlid == "HKA" etc. -- Brian

Morning folks. Posting on behalf of a busy GM with Hero Designer. He was showing off some of the outputs from the program and I like the "detailed" output in HTML format, but the basic output will properly fill my 4k monitor on top of collapsing to phone sizes. I was wondering if there's a way to make the "detailed" sheet with its styling properly tile horizontally in a responsive layout, outside of me adding the CSS to do it myself.

I'm having an odd experience with Hero Designer now that I've transferred it to a new laptop. The Variable Power Pool for 6E doesn't have some key limitations: namely, how often VPP can be changed (like between adventures) and needing to change it under special circumstances (like consulting a spell book or using a lab). These limitations aren't even listed in the "unavailable limitations" section, for either the VPP-only modifiers or the common modifiers. Oddly, when I try a 5E VPP, it does list two of these (VPP can only be changed between adventures, VPP powers can be changed only in given circumstances). And when I then go to 6E, it has those two limitati…

HD has started locking up on me and I'm not sure why. I reinstalled the most current version (Build 20230715) and updated my Java (version 8 Update 381). I can open existing characters or open new ones just fine. But when I go to try and select/add a Power or Talent, everything freezes up and I have to use Task Manager to close out. (I'm on a Windows machine.) I can add Skills just fine - it seems to be anytime it's trying to open another window that's causing the problem? Help me Mister Wizard!

It's annoying to have to check this box each time I turn on HERO Designer. Is there some way to get it to stay on even when I close the program?
