Inspired from something I read on the Book of Face: Of the many and various iterations of Star Trek, what does each one do best? What makes each series stand out from the others? Here are the various series for your consideration: The Original Series: The Animated Series: The Next Generation: Deep Space 9: Voyager: Enterprise: Discovery: Picard: Lower Decks: Prodigy: Strange New Worlds: If you haven't seen one or more of them, that's okay. Just say "Haven't seen it" and move on.

The scoop: Someone posts a word or logic puzzle. Upon confirmation of a correct solution, the one who solved it posts the next one. Got it? Good. -- Arnold Schwarzenegger's is big. Donald Trump's is small. And Madonna doesn't have one. What is it?

Bob Barker was an institution. He was perhaps the perfect game show host. NYT reports he passed away today. He was 99.

Me included!!! I hope all of you in SoCal and other areas that are getting *crushed* by rains and flooding are safe. From what I'm reading right now, it's mostly property damage, fortunately, but still, that's no fun.

I got a Kindle Fire 8 for Christmas. It's worked fairly well, but the Android operating system that's on it is, for lack of a better word, lame. The Amazon app store is lacking, to say the least. Worse, I can't use my Kindle to access any of the Google apps. That's unfortunate, because my school district uses Google a lot, and it would really be helpful to have a device more mobile than a laptop but larger than my phone to access the stuff. Now, I understand that it is possible to replace the handicapped Amazon version of Android with the same OS that my Android phone is running. Has anyone here done this? And how tech-savvy does one have to be to accomplish …

Left my job today after 8 Years and 6 Months of public service. 4 fires, a mass shooter incident at the VA home, global pandemic response and so many Suicide/DTS/DTO incidents I literally lost count. Some of the best humans I’ve had the pleasure to work alongside, and the privilege of leading. Crazy transition. In 10 days I start my new gig (very similar to the previous one but different County). Really looking forward to the many new things I have to learn about the communities I’ll be serving, and the local priorities. Going to use the time to get my head on straight and study the community health assessment and other state/local reporting so I’m ready to go f…

I couldn't find an updated basketball thread, so here we are. And let's begin with the most compelling non-story of the off-season, the Kevin Durant saga. Kevin Durant trade rumors: Superstar tells Nets owner to deal him or fire Steve Nash, Sean Marks, per report Something about inmates running the asylum...

As a number of people have become increasingly dissatisfied with Twitter in recent weeks, two new options have arisen. One is Threads, which is apparently Meta's (that is to say, Facebook's) version of the platform. The other is Bluesky, which a couple of my academically-minded friends are interested in trying—but apparently it's available by invitation only at the moment. Has anyone here used either of these platforms? What has your experience been like? Pros and Cons? Is either (or both) of them worth pursuing?

Yes it is that time of year when Americans decide they have too many fingers and decide to lose some. Not by the conventional way of a slip with a knife or having them shot off as in Taxi Driver or the Ballad of Buster Scruggs, no they use explosives. Americans, they are a strange bunch. So happy lose your fingers day ! And thanks to the people who posted about this as I was running out of ideas to mock the Colonial Rebels.

Might as well start this now, it's not far off...scary as that sounds. So, Deion Sanders isn't exactly on my Christmas card list, but still.... You might've seen him last year, where he was getting around on the sidelines, his left leg on a rolling cart...couldn't walk on it. Kinda weird. Never did hear...or maybe didn't remember...why. Yes, well... Turns out he had surgery to repair a dislocated toe. That...had issues. It led to blood clots. And more surgery. And the removal of 2 toes. (Ick.) It's been getting worse. More surgery scheduled Friday to relieve clots...and here's the kicker. Or non-kicker, perhaps..…

We just wrapped up 2022 with a Superdraft—the first we've ever run in December, if memory serves correctly—so I guess it's time to begin talking about 2023. If no one has any objections, I have an idea for one in January. I would start it on the 9th. If any of you have one you would like to run later in the year, tell me when and we'll keep it updated here. Sound good?

Ahoy, me hearties! It’s time for the first Get Your Ship Together Superdraft! In this draft, you will select a ship, her crew, her cargo, and anything else you need to tell a compelling story. Supporting fiction is strongly recommended, as always. We will begin the draft on Thursday, June 1st at noon Eastern Daylight Time. (Ask Siri what time that is where you live.) We will make one pick each day, including weekends, until Thursday, June 15th. That’s right, there are fifteen total picks available! Many of these will be Options, to allow you to go in whatever direction works best for your story. Your picks will include the following: T…

This website claims to be "an artificial intelligence dedicated to generating unlimited amounts of unique inspirational quotes." In fact it combines random words and phrases with images pulled from various sources to look like a motivational poster, but what you usually get is gloriously hilarious non-sequitur. Also has a "mindfulness mode" in which you get a voice reading the quotations. Completely free and devoid of ads, although you can order merch with the words and images you generate printed on them. On rare occasions the quotations might be a little NSFW. https://inspirobot.me/
