http://www.physorg.com/news/2012-01-self-guided-bullet-prototype-mile.html A couple of boffins from Sandia labs have created a self guided bullet. It homes in on a laser dot on the target. They want to sell this to the Military, Law Enforcement, and of course the Enthusiast market. It is fired from a smooth barrel longarm. It uses fins to steer itself to hit the target and seems to have an accurate range out to a mile.

I'm putting this here, even though it has some Star Hero aspects...But for me it rings more Dark Champions bells...so...here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7J2M-J1OtMs&feature=bf_prev&list=FLA4j6w6ihuYX4Dbudiqi_ZQ& And yes, there are some cliches involved....But then, it's a "big bang and boom" movie so.....shrug. -Carl-

I'll link to the site, and recommend "Facing Violence" and "Violence A Writer's Guide" but really his practical attitude and experience and ability to communicate it is what I find so helpful. http://chirontraining.com/Site/Home.html Excerpt from his blog: "Once upon a time, waiting to start a class I noticed a guy outside trying to change his tire. The tire was slung under the truck and he had a rod which was supposed to be inserted into a socket and turned to lower the tire. It wasn't working. He was standing there behind the truck with two friends trying to figure it out. So I went out, crawled under the truck and started feeling around. That’s an i…

I'm trying to find a good location for a magic/curio shop in an urban fantasy game set in Hudson City. The image I have in mind is an old victorian building in a formerly residential area turned touristy shopping place. Similar to many parts of San Francisco or other cities with an "old town". Any ideas?

Saw this posted on another message board and thought I'd pass it along. I don't know about you, but these photos make me want to "dungeon-crawl" through a dimly-lit dilapidated apartment building with a snub-nosed .38 looking for murder suspects.

I have a new Dark Champions game I am running. The Game is set in Hudson City. The player characters are built like supers but are all Street level. It is very much a masked vigilante/crime fighter game. As archtypes I have a "Batman" , a "Question", a "Green Arrow" and a "Punisher(minus the dead family)". Now I have been toying with the idea of a Sandbox style game. But I have never really tried it. I can usually get my players invloved in my plots. But I have been thinking that instead of always giving the players the mission or mystery why not let them discover the city and its mysteries by themselves. Now I have been running dark champions mystery style dete…

What firearms are the most reliable under bad conditions or poor maintenance? I'm considering a Dresden Files game, with the players as Wardens. Wardens are 'magic cops', like the Aurors of Harry Potter. (They're also the soldiers, guards, etc.) In the Dresden Files setting, people with enough magic power to be considered 'wizards' have an aura that ruins technological items. Electronics seem the hardest hit, but things with delicate or precise mechanical parts get hit too. The problem gets even worse if the wizard is excited or stressed, as during a fire fight. Wizards who do use guns prefer them to be super reliable. Sure, they keep them clean and well ma…

How much in the way of aliens can a campaign feature while still remaining Dark Champions, instead of Star Hero? The discussion of the 'weird conspiracy' subgenre in 6E2 does mention aliens, so it's evidently not a flat "aliens make it Star Hero" situation.

My favourite villain is planting a thermobaric bomb in a building, but I have no clues about how to deal with it in the rules... Here is my guess: Area of Effect attack with 4 separate effects: 1) energy RKA (6d6? maybe more?). 2) Double Knockback, making the people go against the walls and through them (that is, up to 11d6 normal damage). 3) Static overpressure destroys the walls anywhere. The building colapses creating more damage to people who went through the walls. No idea how much, but I guess is Explosion damage. There are no robots in my game, but if a robot were in the area the overpressure will destroy it for sure like an atom bomb. 4) Negative p…

Hi All Just starting 'brain'storming' for a low-powered DAC game. I'm looking to the great Hive-mind of the forums for ideas. I've not run out of ideas, but i'm just looking for suggestions that i may never consider. I've listed below some very basic ideas i have (all can be subject to change ) PC's built on 175 with 50 complications Using 6th Edition Based in England All players are part of Other Organizations but work for ?? (Not decided on name yet) Inspirations are Delta Green (No Cthulhu though) Torchwood (But more dark and grim) Conspiracy X (But less global) Thinking of weak or latent psi talents (not sure about this) Reverse engineered A…

Has anyone else watched the first few episodes of this show and what do you think of it so far? I kinda get the feeling that this type of a campaign would be better done in a Dark Champions The Animated Series game than in a straight-out Champions game. Anyone else agree and why or why not?

Hello. I'm designing a thermobaric bomb for the villain of my campaign. He is planning to use it in a hotel full of people and kill them all. Is really really a bad person, and as Ozymandias will say "is not an RKO villain whose plans can be stopped". So, the bomb... Wikipedia says about a thermobaric explosion: About the rules, I am thinking in four separate effects of the bomb (all with Area of Effect): 1) Energy based RKA (how much strong? 6d6 may be? more?) 2) Double Knockback on the objects affected by the above damage, some of them making holes throgh the walls of the building. 3) RKA only against walls (not people), as the "Blast …

The Paramount Group's Marauder mine-proof military vehicle was recently featured on Top Gear, where 7kg of plastic explosive detonated directly beneath failed to do more than dent the trim and blow out one tire. I thought it was interesting enough to make a conversion, especially with the various configurations on the website. HD character file is here.
