I don't know if this has been a topic already. But i was comparing the old FH to the FREd FH and I noticed that while many races still get a boost to some attributes, none of them have penalties anymore. So, I was curious how most people handled Char Maxs in their games.

My Fantasy Hero world has an archipelago called the Chaoslands, a land where magic has become extremely erratic. Mages who are not used to manipulating the mana in this area find their powers very unpredictable. Their spells are just as likely to fail, manifest more or less powerful, or have a completely unexpected effect. Any suggestions on simulating this effect?

Some types of FH magic give a x5 modifier for points spent on spells. other slist only a x3. And others have no modifiers at all -- a point is a point mo matter what you spend it on. This leads me to the conclsuion thtat a tool is being provided to balance the relative power of magic ic a campaign. So you could in theory have: No adjutsment: magic is weak, difficult and not alwasys worth the trouble. You have to spend a lot fo REAL points to get much in the way of power. A fireball may be beyond most 75+75 point characters. x2: magic is somewhat more potent, but not powerful enough to be a major factor in most camapigns. Few will bother to learn spells of a…

I have a Character that specialises in Elemental Magic. So I made these little Elemental Minnions for him to summon on casual occasiions like getting fire wood and setting up camp. I'm thinking of running an online Slayers HERO game at HERO Central (just discoevered the site and it looks really cool -- wish I knew how to dveelop a site like that to run PBEM games of the Seraphim Guard line!) and I just realzied that before I seek out players I am going to need some help developing the grimoire. Here's one for the Slayers fans who play FH; if one of your players wanted to build something akin to Gourry's Hikari no Ken (Sword of Light), and he had enough points that woudd allow him to do it, how would you advise him to do it? The other question is whether you would let him, given that such a powerful single weapon might unbalance most campaigns even in High fantasy?(The only reason it doesn't unbalance Slayers campaigns is that the rest of the party has access to powers that are just as potent).

I'm not totally certain that this is the right forum for this, but hopefully so; it looked like here or Other, and this seemed to more or less fit. I get too many ideas. just now I got the idea for a fantasy world that in essentially the Age of enlightenment with magic. And sowrdsmen, instead of weilding mighty greatswords, weidl 'smallswords" and rapiers and gain their deadliness through phenomenal skill. I'm gonna post a beastie in the next message, a large hulking creature that recharges its END reserve by draining the BODY of its victims. i'm starting to convert my previous fantasy campaigns to hero 5th. what are some of your favorite ways to use our ultimate gamers toolkit to give your characters attack and parry skills with their weapons. the most interesting seems to be based on designing off of the martial arts skill, but also the most time consuming. i know i could buy fantasy hero, but i want to try and stick with the 5th edition black book for rules and all my original rule/source books for the particular details.

It seems to me it should be possible to, without adding additional rules, create a magic system that imitates Ars Magica's in Hero; I think it might not even be all that difficult. However, rather than immediately set out to re-invent the wheel I thought I would check here to see if anyone has already done this, or at least has some ideas on how it can be done.

Hey all! I am currently creating Prefabs for my FH campaign, and in the old FH 4th, under college of air, it lists the power for "Steal Breath" simply as 2d6 NND... Any idea what power this was supposed to be? I've tried HKA, RKA, EB but can't seem to get the correct total. I was hoping someone might have a copy of FH 4th to look at and tell me, as I don't want to reproduce the text and violate Steve's copyright Thanks! Storn has a really good thread going right now where he has posted some color artwork from MMM. I mentioned that I have some color pics I did for the Fantasy Hero Grimoire, and was asked to show them. Here they are. For these illustrations, I basically worked in the opposite edirection the noble Storn did. Whereas he worked in color and reduced to greyscale, I created these in greyscale and colorized them as an experiment. BTW, these were also the first illustrations I did after getting a Wacom pressure sensitive tablet. They are entirely digital. I've been doing some work on magic for my fantasy world, and came to the conclusion that I need to do a lot of work on magic for my fantasy world. Looking through my world writeups, I have found references to/characters for/villians using 23 different styles of magic(!). It has also been pointed out that most of my players would much rather be able to pick precosted spells than build their own, although some would also like to build their own, as well. Hey I got MMM today and it looks good. I realy like this book it's handy to have default people like humans to refer to. It is nice to just look something up now and then as opposed to making every thing new. I think this book will get more use than ony of the other books I have purchased from DOJ (excepting the Grimoire) But and there is always a but... It is missing one of the pics and in the back it still has the lay out note for two of the pics? Anyone have the news on that?
