Wondering if MCB will get its own background - so we can run MCB campaigns. You might also consider a background book for the Vatican Hunters - they have been around since the 12th century. Bet they would be a lot of fun to flesh out.

Awesome news about the MHI handbook! I think the MHI universe will make an excellent RPG setting and am really looking forward to it. My big question, which I always have with new games, is: will there be actual adventures/module support for the game? It seems like most of the time I ask someone at a game company that I always get the "well, we provide plot hooks, or plot seeds, and that's the hard part, coming up with ideas" answer and usually I just keep walking at the cons when I hear it Ideas aren't usually the problem, its having time to flesh them out that is. My gaming group is mostly in their 40's with kids. We work full time and barely squeek ou…

Larry Correia and Hero Games are pleased to announce that they’re teaming up to produce a fan’s guide to and roleplaying game set in Correia’s “Monster Hunter International” setting, tentatively entitled The Monster Hunter International Employee’s Handbook And Roleplaying Game. Fans won’t have to buy any other books to play the game; the MHIEHRPG will have everything they need for hours of exciting ad…

Initially I was going to run a "new" group to MHI but after much work I have worked up a new monster hunter group. Monster Hunter Alpha and Legion show us there are many more groups large and small. Has anyone else started exploring this theme? I see a few breakouts. A group like TALON, totally bootstrapped with no idea that there is PUFF. They had day jobs! A group like Paranormal Tactical. A completely modern group of hunters with a good source of funding. Grimm Berlin a hunting group set in other than the USA?

We start our MHI campaign tomorrow night - and I'm on the look out for some MHI-themed miniatures in 25/28mm. The monsters are easy enough as there are plenty of manufactures for both Fantasy and Urban Arcana. However, I'm not able to find anything for the MHI PC's and NPC's. I'm looking for US Special Forces (current) or SWAT teams (current). There are quite a bit of Post Apocolyptic figures, but that doesn't fit what I imagine the hunters would look like in Hudson City. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks jmt

Just wondering if there's an updated target date for when the MHI Hero Games book will ship? Still at the printer?

Just want to throw this out there for people looking for a monster hunting fix. John Hartness has a series called Bubba the Monster Hunter. It's about what you'd expect, given the title - A guy who, when he's not drinking beer by the pitcher in a nudie bar and watching college football on TV, drives around the south in a pick-up truck and hunts monsters with his Desert Eagle .50 named Bertha. Several books available for cheap on Kindle. Also available as audiobooks.

OK, so I'm looking at pitting my players against a boss with damage negation, and just for the sake of this discussion, let me present a hypothetical situation: Player is carrying a H&K G3 assault Rifle. Fires a full auto burst (five rounds) at the monster's head. Let's assume for the sake of the example that he hits with all five rounds. The G3 is a 2d6+1 or DC7. With the full auto rules, each hit beyond the first adds 1 DC, so 4 addtional hits moves it up to a DC11. So to roll damage on the monster, (with a damage negation of 6 DC's) i subtract the DC's first, Moving damage roll down to 5 DC's (2d6-1) then apply the multiplier 2x for head shot, then subtra…

Hello, i'm going to master a MHI game and i'm also new to hero system (as all my group). I'm searching a way to balance the game avoiding my players from doing too much damages ruining the feeling. I know the rule of X and characteristics maxima but i'm not sure about the damage class limit and a good way to mix all together. MHI is an heroic game so maxima should apply, can you give me advices? Thanks

Finally got around to picking up the RPG and prepping to run it for my gaming group. It seems a little unfortunately timed that the RPG came out Legion since there were major changes that happened in Nemesis and there was almost no time gap between Legion and Nemesis. If you are setting your game, like I will be after Nemesis there are some major changes especially with the MCB. Dwayne Myers is dead. Director Stark has "retired" from MCB for medical reasons. The new Acting Director of the MCB is Cueto. Cueto was a Strike Team "trigger puller" who worked his way up to unit commander. Described as a shaved head, muscular, grizzled looking warrior. Was a old friend and co…

So I'm new to the whole HERO system; I cut my teeth on Pathfinder/GURPS. This is my first attempt to use this thing and the sheer amount of stats makes my head swim a bit. I'm getting past that, sort of, but the big problem I'm hitting is... what's a reasonable stat? I mean technically I can crank these things through the roof at chargen, but I have no idea what a 'good starting template' would be. I checked out the MHI Hunter template, but that seems relatively... weak... somehow. I have -no- idea what number values to shoot for! Help!

Would anyone be willing to share characters? I want to run a couple campaigns and I just haven't found time to create characters for players. I'm thinking that since this is such a time consuming aspect of this system others might benefit if there were characters posted somewhere that one could just pick up and let a player run with. I eventually want my players to create their own but I'm thinking I will lose their interest if we spend a lot of time creating characters. I know how our characters become important to us but if it was the initial character generation with no name that might not be too much of an issue. Any format works for me, I have Hero Designer, but…

Are there any? I need to print some as those would be better than "standard" character sheets.

Hi there. Purchased the MHI character pack for MHI - and it's nice to have most of the basic people stats/etc. already defined - especially as it gives me a reference point for character design as I've never played the Hero system before. That said - what's driving me nuts right now is how to add - for example - the AR-10 that's part of the standard MHI template in the handbook, but NOT included anywhere in the character Pack. It doesn't get added as part of the MHI template, and none of the MHI characters who don't have a special weapon as a power ("abomination" - forex) have the standard equipment listed as part of the template. The stats are useful, but I'm not su…

Would it be possible to get a PDF with just the various charts and tables? I'm new to the Hero system, and it would be helpful to have something where I can easily look up the information I need without having to page through the entire book.

I need a crash course in combat skills as they relate to character generation. The rule book seems fuzzy to me. Also, can anyone point to any other resources on the subject. For example, I see "+1 HTH" or "+1 with Firearms" in sample character sheets but no description of a HTH or Firearms skill in the rule set.

MHI characters are pretty strong fighters. I have no prior experience with the HERO system. I've run 2 combat sessions with my group so far - one after character generation to familiarize us all with combat, and one as part of our first real adventure. They kicked ass and took names both times. The first session was against a horde of wights. The second against a group of humbolt folk and some "super" humbolt folk I made. The common theme seems to be that if MHI characters are in a large open area, they win. And automatic weapons against low DCV is deadly. Most monsters are melee type combatants. In order to stand a chance against MHI, they ne…

I'm working on an outline for a demo adventure to run at Cons and FLAGS. The PCs are a group of young, new monster hunters who have just set up shop in Dogpatch, Iowa. They have been marketing aggressively, getting their name out to all the local police & fire departments as well as the county sheriff's office. The adventure is divided into seven encounters. Only three of these are combat encounters. The rest are opportunities for the PCs to use their skills, interact with NPCs, and role play. One key to this adventure is that, while each PC has access to a variety of handguns, rifles, shotguns, and hundreds of rounds of conventional a…

I have been looking at the characters in the Hero Designer Character Pack for MHI and comparing them to the character sheet in the book. I have noticed some differences on some of the characters stats. I have only looked at the stats not anything else so far. A few examples of differences are: Special Agent Franks has a 20 STR list in the book and a 30 STR in character pack Tadeusz Byreika has a 6 DCV in the book and a 12 DCV in character pack. Skippy has a 6 DCV and a 12 Rec in he book and a 5 DCV and a 8 Rec in character pack. I also noticed errors in Holly and Trip. I would expect that the book would override the character sheets in the Hero D…

So in looking at the power Dispel, our initially honed in on things like Mind Control, Entangle and the more offensive powers. But started thinking outside the box and quickly went beyond the limits of the MHI book. Could Dispel be used as an Anti-buff? Shut down a monsters Damage Reduction or Life Support? If so, how would that work? Would the character have to re-roll each phase, or if he hits the first time, can he just keep paying the END cost? For things like life support, if you were to successfully dispel the life support on an undead creature, would that be essentially an insta-kill?

OK, so I've got my group creating their characters for our first stab at a campaign of my own creation (more on that later). Many of them seem to be going with the Distinctive Feature by stating my "my character is really tall" or "my character has unusually bright red hair" etc... I'm cool with them letting their characters have the features and distinctions they want, but I'm having a hard time coming up with how this becomes a complication for them... Who cares if they're easily recognizable, they're not trying to hide from the law, they are the law. How else can I use their distinctive features, that aren't necessarily repugnant, in the story. Unless I'm…

I'm a late joiner to the MHI forums as I have just finished reading the books and just recently learned about the game. I've been to the local gaming shop and they do not have the core 6th edition books. Do I need to purchase them to play the game and if so, where may I find them?
