A player in my game has been bitten by a werewolf and has become infected (Not Yet Confirmed). This has resulted in quite a discussion. In the end it was decided to monitor the character and at the next Full Moon cycle to confine them and observe whether they change. My thought was on how MHI would react. Considering their employees I think that MHI would help, get them somewhere isolated and with Earl's help get them to come to terms with the beast and gain some control. If the condition did become known, especially to MCB I would think MHI would request PUFF exception in which case they would work for Special Task Force Unicorn to earn it. What are people…

In my game I have several players who are a little fanatical about their guns, its one of the reasons I am running a MHI game. They keep complaining to me about the ranges on some of the guns. Some of the Sniper Rifles only have ranges of about 300-400m and they say that this is way too short, that some should be over a 1km. I have told them repeatedly that the ranges are mechanically derived to maintain balance. Am I correct in this statement? I have said that they can create a custom gun and pay for what ever range they want. One of the characters is a very skilled Gunsmith and has built weapons previously. I have also stated that if they bring me docume…

I have been looking at the characters in the Hero Designer Character Pack for MHI and comparing them to the character sheet in the book. I have noticed some differences on some of the characters stats. I have only looked at the stats not anything else so far. A few examples of differences are: Special Agent Franks has a 20 STR list in the book and a 30 STR in character pack Tadeusz Byreika has a 6 DCV in the book and a 12 DCV in character pack. Skippy has a 6 DCV and a 12 Rec in he book and a 5 DCV and a 8 Rec in character pack. I also noticed errors in Holly and Trip. I would expect that the book would override the character sheets in the Hero D…

I just finished reading the first MHI novel and started the second. Very fun stuff. I was constantly referring to the RPG to read tidbits about certain characters. It spoiled some of the mystery but I knew the risk going in. I think most of the NPC and monster write ups are pretty cool. I was originally shocked to see some of the extremely HIGH Speed scores for some characters (10+) in some cases but it fits the source material (this isn't a supers setting, the genre I am most familiar with, so the characters wouldn't general translate well into that type of setting without modification). On the other hand, the Strength stats for ALL characters and monsters s…

I could've sworn that in the MHI books, there were a number of monsters that were vulnerable to silver, specifically the undead and I thought demons? But of the monsters listed in the MHIRPG book, the only ones that have silver mentioned on their character sheets (either as a Vulnerability or as a Limitation on their defenses) are werewolves, and by inference other Lycanthopes. Is that an oversight, or am I missing something? Seems like the books make a much bigger deal out of silver than just "use in case of werewolf."

What abilities should a Lycanthrope have while in human form? Earl Harbinger maybe an exception but in the books he is shown to possess some of his werewolf powers while in human form; Enhanced Perception, Strength, Speed and Regeneration. Although these are not close to what he would have in his Werewolf form. Although all people infected with the Lycanthrope virus regenerated at an accelerated rate (1 Body/day). It is one of the signs that they have been infected when they heal from the encounter quickly.

On page 154 of the MHI book it states "MHI uses a special type of hollow point ammunition. It has a ball of silver in front with a traditional lead slug around it." and continues on with the description from there. However there is no corresponding DC or STUNx modifier mentioned. Was this intentional or should we use the modifiers listed in the hollow point paragraph (+1DC and +1 STUNx)?

We start our MHI campaign tomorrow night - and I'm on the look out for some MHI-themed miniatures in 25/28mm. The monsters are easy enough as there are plenty of manufactures for both Fantasy and Urban Arcana. However, I'm not able to find anything for the MHI PC's and NPC's. I'm looking for US Special Forces (current) or SWAT teams (current). There are quite a bit of Post Apocolyptic figures, but that doesn't fit what I imagine the hunters would look like in Hudson City. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks jmt

First of all: What a NICE product for a VERY REASONABLE price! I like 'em full colored, well printed and with all the rules in 'em (not that I don't have the rules, but a complete product is nice to have). But what I am sorrowful missing is a starting adventure in the book. Yes, some people consider it wa waste of page since it is in the main rule-book and after you have played it it is more or less useless. I am personally in the other camp: An introductory adventure - if well-made - gives you a peep on how the setting works, how the characters and the world act together and generally get you off the ground. And if you weave it into the background it make…

THE PROBLEM My characters have had a couple of encounters with zombies so far. They were originally dismayed by how hard the creatures were to eliminate with gunfire. This is due mainly to the way the zombies are built. They have 4 resistant PD, +2 resistant PD verses slashing and piercing attacks, and +2 more resistant PD verses piercing attacks. This means that they count as having 8 resistant PD verses bullets and shotgun pellets. The group has found two very effective methods to combat them. (1) As long as the range and surrounding permit, an explosive shotgun slug works wonders. It does a 2 ½d6 KA in a 4m radius and it counts as an Energy Attack. The z…

Are there any costs for equipment available (firearms, grenades, ammo, etc.) or is that left as an exercise for finding "real world" prices? Some stuff is easy (legal firearms, ammo) but others are more problematic (full auto weapons, grenades and the like). I'm sure that procurement would generally go through MHI corporate, but you would expect a "preferred corporate rate" rather than open/black market prices. Unfortunately, I don't really know the going rate for a flamethrower.

Is the demolition skill the correct one for improvised explosives creation or is there something else needed as well? Thanks! /Paul

I really think the Hero System works well with MHI. I was wondering if there is a download or GM screen that would give folks access to the impairing and disabling injuries that are in Hero System 6 rules? Have the two books already so I have access to these rules but it would be handy to have quick access.

I just noticed something missing from the MHI rules (which are essentially just the HERO System Basic Rulebook). This seems like a setting that Combat Luck was designed for. I find it odd that it wasn't even introduced as a custom settings option as it seems quite genre appropriate. As a comparison, Champions Complete (the new entry level replacement for both HERO System Basic and 6e1 & 6e2) includes Combat Luck in a book with a lower page count than MHI. Anyone else find this odd?

MHI characters are pretty strong fighters. I have no prior experience with the HERO system. I've run 2 combat sessions with my group so far - one after character generation to familiarize us all with combat, and one as part of our first real adventure. They kicked ass and took names both times. The first session was against a horde of wights. The second against a group of humbolt folk and some "super" humbolt folk I made. The common theme seems to be that if MHI characters are in a large open area, they win. And automatic weapons against low DCV is deadly. Most monsters are melee type combatants. In order to stand a chance against MHI, they ne…

I missed the Kickstarter and will be waiting for the opportunity to buy my copy. In one of the other threads I read that the plan was to make the PDF available for purchase after the Kickstarters get their physical copies. I'll be getting the PDF then. But I have pre-ordered the hardcopy through my FLGS. Any guess as to when the books will begin to make it out into distribution?

I am very interested in this book and will most likely buy it as soon as it hits the stores but I do have a question... Will it have monsters included in the book? Kind of like a short bestiary specifically for MHI? that would be pretty cool if it did! I may be in the minority but I really like using things like bestiaries and villain books in my games. I run a game almost every weekend and the CKC and Bestiary (along with Villainy Amok - LOVE that book!) are almost always at my side. Just curious. Laser

Tomorrow (19 June 2013) I guess my MHI campaign will officially begin. Me and one of my players are going to run a very short scenario that will cover how he comes to be recruited by MHI. His character has been built without adding the additional points and complications of the MHI training package. After this scenario he will finish writing his character background and apply the MHI Template. Once the full campaign gets underway (hopefully with the next month) he will have his background and a story to tell.

Looking at the powers of the Wraith it seems that most of the Wight's powers were copied into it. The result is that the Hero Designer Wraith is much different from the version printed in the Mess of Monsters PDF. I also see that parts of the Mess of Monsters Wraith contradict itself. For instance the MoM Wraith's powers give it 10 rPD whereas the summary in the Characteristics section lists only 6 rPD. It is difficult to determine what the exact write up was supposed to be.
