(well, we've been playing for a few weeks actually, and it took me this long just to put together the notes from first session... but Merry Christmas, everybody.) Thrilling Tales of Adventure! Presents The Tombs of Emperor Chin Chapter One Rumors! Gambling! Chinese Assassins! As told to James Francis Dugan November 17, 1934 Lee Chen, late of the University of Oxford, had come to make a professional visit to the University of New York, and while in the city had come to call upon his esteemed Uncle, Lee Cheng, head of a prosperous merchant family. In Cheng’s study, they sat as Uncle admired the handiwork of the tea set they were usin…

Just an ordinary pistol that would be not too far fetched for a well-to-do British archaeologist of the 1920s to carry. And if possible, the stats for such a pistol.

Yes, I'm almost serious. Some of you may know Bruce McCall, an artist who appeared in many many magazines over the last 40 or so years. He makes some wonderfully whimsical pieces and I thought I'd share a few with you. Specifically, these would be of tremendous aid to anyone doing a Pulp/Anime style of game with large monstrous ridiculous vehicles. I'll put each pic/description in it's own post, as otherwise, this will be one long sucker, and if it hoses halfway through, I don't want to have to retype it all again. Okay, away we go. The Caproni-Maroni C2 "Scud", sometimes called "The Instant Reversing Fighter" was a design anomaly. The sleek pusher/…

A version of Remo appropriate (with moderate background tweaking) for a Pulp or Modern Pulp campaign. Power level is right around where Remo was in books 1-3.

Since the Pulp Hero Secret Decoder Ring is now in the hands of a bunch of fans, and will shortly be available to others via the Online Store, I figured I'd post the text of the first message that was handed out at GenCon, for those who didn't/can't get it. Periodically I'll post other messages here, and as those who've bought Solar Smith know, it's got a long message on page 2. We'll have messages in other PH-related PDFs and products as well. This thread is locked so that we don't get any wiseacres spoiling the party by posting the decoded message. The fun of the rings is decoding the message for yourself, so please don't ruin anyone else's fun by posting the "…

The World of Kong: A Natural History of Skull Island http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1416505199/qid=1133587629/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/002-4699423-2706403?s=books&v=glance&n=283155 This hardback book is basically an "artbook" of production paintings by the Weta Workshop crew. However, it is put together like a "real world" guidebook to Skull Island, covering the basics of the island's layout, geography, ecosystems, and fauna. Thus, it's a "must-read" for anyone who wants to run a lost-world adventure and either needs some ideas of creatures and monsters to put in it, or simply wants to use Skull Island "as-is" and let the PCs chase after Kong. …

Recently came across a used bookshop with a large number of the Doc Savage serials, generally low number paperbacks(I think the highest was 18). Anyone have suggestions on which are the best ones?

Instant Pulp-Era plot seed for those Explorer/Great White Hunter types! These two photos apparently show Union soliders standing over the corpses of an unknown species of giant bird. The upper photo is reputed to be of the so-called "Thunderbird" of American Indian myth, while the lower photo has been tentivly identified to show some form of pterodactyl. Unfortunately, little is known about when or where these pictures where taken or what happened to the corpses.

Greetings Herophiles, I picked up Masterminds & Madmen about 1730hrs and have only stopped now to give you a quick review. Dear Ladies & Gentlemen, I do not have the words to express how... well... It is just so totally freaking awesome!!! Art: (4 out of 5) Wow, nice work and totally appropriate in every case. From Ned "The Corpse" Madden [p.96] to Jimmy "Bats" Seldon [p.172] Looks great and the characters expressions really make them come alive in my imagination. The Sky Fortess Cumulus [p.35 to 40] is certainly drool worthy. Layout: (4 out of 5) A lot of empty borders, but over all really easy to use and follow. Writing: (4.999 out of 5)…

Although I hadn't realized that he was going to, Steve has included a group of characters that didn't make it into M&M in Digital HERO #35 as part of the 'Leftover Hero' series. It also has a bang-up article by Mike Surbrook presenting his riff on the Sayians from Dragonball Z, a take on Zombie Hero, and a handful of other Hero goodness. I'm not a big enough egotist to suggest that you check it out for my stuff, but I have no reservations about suggesting that you to check it out for Mike's article - the man is good.

Gotta get me one of them! This photo ran in the Denver Post a few months back. The caption read: “Police officers in March 1921 pose with Denver's new armored Bandit Chaser at the Civic Center. The Cadillac was modified by the Izett Auto Body Co. and included a bulletproof windshield and armor plate, spotlights and a machine gun. Hooks held the officers in place so they could stand, sit or kneel to fire their guns. Bumpers made of railroad iron allowed it to plow through fences. The car could go 90 mph.†Just for grins, I took a stab at writing it up. I assumed all that armor would make it fairly hard to maneuver (let alo…

Recently picked up these two Hero Plus docs. Quite nice, IMHO. Good, strong Shadow and Doc Savage analogues, with a nice array of supporting characters. In fact, the Science Police are a good example of how you could do the "Operatives" style of pulp team gaming. Any chances we'll see more of these kind of things?? Between these two and the pulp writeup for Dr Yin Wu, we're half way to assembling Warren Ellis' Legion of Extraordinary Pulp Characters. . .

Of all places, I found a possible plot seed for a pulp campaign at church. The guest pastor spoke of a project to help the underprivileged in a place called McDowell County, which is one of the poorest 5 counties in the country. It's mining territory, and he spoke of how, once upon a time, the mining companies would send their goons out to the homes of the miners to make sure they're not gathering to plot the improvement of working conditions. Anyone caught hosting or attending these meetings was fired and kicked out of his home. This was definitely during the pulp era. Depending on the tone of the game, the heroes might show up in town with the intention of free…

I could swear I started a thread like this, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Anyway... My next campaign for my regular Saturday group will most likely be Pulp Hero. I think I managed to convince the majority of the soundness of the game, and the few naysayers will either have to suck it up, or find another group (which is acceptable to me - no one should play something they don't want to play, but I've been hankering to run Pulp Hero for a year, since my last Pulp game died). Anyway, it's going to be Vigilance League II (Electric Boogaloo - or maybe not). I'll be having only Pulp Heroes (the Golden Age supers didn't work out too well, they ended up dominati…
