I want there to be some "weight" to hauling around the large supplies of food, so the crew PCs see the effects of improvements in food technologies. At low technology a year's food supply for 25 people is a fairly substantial investment of ship space, while higher technologies would feed more people using less space and for a longer period of time. "Weight" in this case ties to the Active and Real point costs, and I'm having a hard time tying mechanics back to the SFX because Life Support: Need not Eat costs 3 points and lasts forever. Fuel Charges are the obvious choice, but of what length and should I use increased charges, the Usable by Others advantage or just …

I've been working on a complete ruleset for running a Star Wars game in the Hero system. The way I see it there are two difficult problems to solve which each hit one of the key points of the setting: a good system for the Force (done), and a good system for spaceships (my current issue). You might wonder what's the problem, the rules for building out vehicles are pretty clear so just use them. While true, I find them insufficient. People aren't going to be buying their ships with character points, they're going to be doing it with in-game cash. Furthermore there are a number of different scales of vehicle that need to be supported (snubfighter, light freighter, capit…

Hey guys … here's my take on an Astromech Droid as a race package -- any suggestions or critiques? -------------------------- Droid (Astromech): Also referred to as an astro droid or mech, is a repair droid that served as an automated mechanic on starships. These compact droids use tool-tipped appendages stored in recessed compartments. Many starfighters rely on astromech copilots to control flight and power distribution systems. In addition to its piloting duties, could calculate hyperspace jumps and perform simple repairs. Most astromechs were only able to communicate in writing, conveyed via another computer system, or through a…

Below are some futuristic methods of grooming that I've come up with. I'd love to hear any other sufficiently advanced suggestions (for setting flavor, if nothing else), if you have them. * Telekinesis: yank the hair out. Hopefully, some means of momentarily ceasing surface nerve transmissions is used in tandem with this procedure, otherwise...ouch. * Teleportation: relocate the hair. * Disintegration: vaporize the hair. * Temporal manipulation: reverse the age of the hair until it disappears into nothingness. * Microbots/nanomachines: machines barely visible or entirely invisible to the naked eye get to work. Nanomachines can even rest…

Hi all, 1) if anyone's search-fu is awesome, I would like links to any threads here comparing the Star HERO editions. 2) I'm interested in particular if the pages/chapters in each edition for subgenre selection/campaign design have held up well, considering the passage of time in real life makes future predictions obsolete fast (compare 1990s looking at Cyberpunk vs. Transhumanist sci-fi written in the last few years, or Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Sarah Newton's Mindjammer (there's a Traveller version if Fate is troublesome to convert to HERO).) In short, does the advice of (especially) 3rd edition Star HERO hold up as well as Allston's 3E Stri…

I want to use my Starfinder pawns for a game (I have 3 packs, including Alien Archive 1), and to FINALLY use Dark Champions again for a game, since it's my favorite HERO System book. I just got the idea for a mash-up game of vigilante heroes as aliens and elves, dwarves and ANYTHING ELSE in the Starfinder universe. It's probably going to be a game focused on the Absalom Station of the Starfinder universe, with the option of branching out to different worlds once the game has been established. Costumed (alien) vigilantes brandish their assault rifles and laser guns against the dark villains of corpse soldiers, pirates and criminals. I need an a…

As those of you who care are aware, I was assassinated for a bit, but I'm feeling better now. I have been using my _very scant_ spare time during my assassination to rework Robot Warriors. (Like Chris G, I have a deep love for that game). I'm going in a different direction than Chris did with his conversion document: I am doing a "powered by HERO," hidden mechanics sort of thing (much like the original, only with some new ideas to bring them game more in line with what we've seen in mech fiction over the years). Hopefully, work will experience the "winter slow down" that gives me a bit more free time (If you're wondering, Spence,…

Now that we have Champions Complete and Fantasy Hero Complete, is it time for Star Hero Complete? My gaming group is starting a GURPS 3rd edition Space Opera campaign and even though I and the GM are GURPS players from the 90s, I'd prefer if we were playing with Star Hero. However, I know the entry point is monumental (HERO System 6E volumes 1 & 2 + Star Hero 6E are the essential basic books) for a GM that has a lot invested in the GURPS system. So my next thought is whether a Star Hero Complete is sensible. I think it would help sell the HERO system as an alternative to GURPS for a cinematic space opera RPG (150-point GURPS player characters). Hero has t…

Does anyone know of a site that sells futuristic/space miniatures I can use for my Star Hero campaign? I have some Warhammer ones and a few HeroClix Skrull ones I've been using, but I'd like to try some new ones.

I am looking for a write up for the effects of a nuclear bomb in Champions. It is not necessarily a Star Hero item but this was the closest SciFi area. I found one some years back and it was pretty detailed with examples of burst radius, 2x knockback for outward and inward damage zones, transformation of people who see it into blind victims, radiation, etc. If anyone knows the link or which book this appears in I would greatly appreciate the help for my WWIII campaign. Thank you...

During the discussion on the thread, The Turakian Age is Seriously Underrated, it was brought to my attention that not only were many folks unfamiliar with that fantasy setting published by Hero Games, but the degree to which other books in the Fantasy Hero line were directly connected to it, providing supporting elaboration for various facets of its world. It occurred to me that Hero's signature sci-fi setting might also suffer from a similar misconception. Just as with the Turakian Age, most of Hero's science-fiction books use the Terran Empire as their default reference, in some cases even more than their fantasy books do for TA. The centerpiece of the line…

Alongside my Pathfinder project, I'm working on a version of Starfinder that incorporates the Force and Jedi into the universe, with a "cold war" going on between the dark and light side of the Force, similar to the prequel movies (in terms of public knowledge). I have vague images of what I want the end result to look like, but here are some of the things I've decided to work on: 1. Include all the races from Starfinder into the mix. These will be portrayed by the various pawns for Starfinder RPG, when miniatures are called for on the battlemaps. 2. Make it more gritty and cyberpunky in terms of combat and weaponry. I will be focusing on slug-throwing we…

I was going through my old collection of GURPS Traveller starship sourcebooks and I noticed they included hex-based deckplans in addition to the square-grid ones. Given the lack of existing deckplans for Star Hero, these could be a valuable resource and an excellent companion to Traveller HERO. Here is a sample Free Trader deckplan:

I'm (probably) joining a Star Hero campaign (Terran Empire setting) that's already in progress and am looking for ideas on a character to play. The party is the crew of a small ship and works for a corporation doing what I can only really term as "odd jobs". Past adventures have apparently included "Go to Planet A and find why the natives aren't trading with us (and fix it)", "Go to Planet B and find out why the week-old colony has gone radio-silent", "One of our ships went missing with a full load of cargo. Bring it back.", "Explore this system for exploitable resources.", and "A man was murdered and one of our operatives framed. Prove he didn't do it.". I'm tr…

Hello everyone, Did anyone make xenomorphs, yautja and colonial marines for HERO System? I'm going to run a Star Wars Vs AVP game, run like the way I imagined the movie to be instead of the horrifically lame movies from 2004 and 2007 along with a Star Wars that resembles the Original Star Wars + Rogue One + The Mandalorian. I would also like to see Ellen Riley and Dutch team up, so if anyone ever stated them out- that would be a big help! Let me know, Grandmaster GM

If there's an old good thread on this let me know as I didn't see it in my cursory search. So: How do you do ship to ship combat in your Space Hero game and what do you find works\doesn't work when running it?

https://www.herogames.com/store/product/121-lux-aeternum-pdf/ "Lux Aeternum is a cinematic science fiction setting that strives to evoke the romanticized spirit of the 17th Century Age of Exploration – a time of sweeping changes, social upheaval, and limitless opportunity. Action, drama, and grand adventure are key elements to any grand tale to be told in this setting. The absence of faster-than-light travel limits the playing field to a handful of star systems and allows this finite area to be fleshed out with a level of detail and complexity not possible in a galaxy-spanning saga." Anyone know anything about this? It's been in the Hero Store for ages, …

While I wait for my actual The Expanse RPG to arrive I wanted to ask the forums: Are you familiar with The Expanse? TV or books? If so do you have any thoughts on how to run that in Hero? Anything that sticks out to you from a Hero perspective for emulating that setting?

I need some advice on how to build one aspect of FTL drives for a near-future (late 22nd/early 23rd century) interstellar campaign idea I'm working on where FTL travel requires people to enter cold-sleep hibernation pods, much like how they showed the crew in the first Alien movie. In this setting, hyperspace travel is lethal to the human mind, causing synaptic degradation and a descent into madness. However, traveling while in cold-sleep avoids this problem. Points-wise, I'm thinking this is some sort of Side Effect on the FTL drive's power build, but I'm unsure if this is the right Limitation to use or how to describe the Side Effect if it is.

Hi all, i think this could be the right place where to ask. I'd like to start a new campaign set in the Extinction event (new released setting for 6th) world, and i was searching for examples of near future vehicles, drones and technology. I know i can build them all but i'd like to see examples. Seems that I'm not able to find nothing in vehicles books, champions or start hero source books, do you have suggestions on where to look?
