A bunch of hypothetical worlds in this site. Useful if you need to detail a planet in a pinch. http://www.worlddreambank.org/P/PLANETS.HTM

This will be a good place to place any question that is of a scientific nature. It will not matter how simple it seems (why is the sky blue?) or way more complex than that (explanation of black holes). Let's get this started off with a good question: What happens when a black hole is placed inside another black hole?

Does anyone have (or wish to create) a build for a Gravity Trap? I'm looking for a simple AoE 1 Hex gravity well that lifts the target(s) into the air, immobilizing them (in 6th Edition). I'm torn between Flight, TK, or Entangle... What are your thoughts?

So with 1.3.1 I decided to start anew. This time using a stock faction - the Ix'Idar Collective. Your average atheist police state played until the first one died: Ix'Idar Collective Primary Purpose: Maximise the Life Expectancy of as many Ix'Idar as possible. Primary Directive: Explore Universe, Expand border and habitable space, Conquer any obstacle. Overlord Xid'Ixa'Xir'ldon; Champion of the People, Industrialist; Rule: 2200.01.01- Deputy Overlord Re-Ma; Home in the Sky, Investor; Heir: 2200.01.11; Persons of Note: Fa-Ra (Governor), Eager, Iron Fist(Slave Ouput), Athrak Scientist: Ju-Ta, Meticulous, Carefull Su-Pe, Maniacal Ul-Ta, Military Expert Ro-Ab, Computing E…

Watching Elon present his Mars spacecraft now. The rocket is frickin' huge. Mars vehicle itself like a stubby rocket with fins.Deep cryo methalox for propellant, partially because it could possibly be manufactured on Mars. Takes advantage of booster landing to enable rapid refueling--basically one launch for the vehicle, quick turnaraound, second launch for additional fuel. Elon wants to get the "ticket price" for a Mars trip from $Billions to $200k. No mention yet of recent "rapid uncontrolled deconstruction" events. Or of funding--even Musk can't possibly afford this on his own dime.

So Stellaris got an update. We got severe overhauls of half the core mechanics (again). New Species Portrait. And with the DLC, space Dragons - firebreath included (Leviathans). While I already started a Multiplayer game with friends using the stock UNS Faction, the is little time for Documentation. So the 1st Aloftewek Council* will be what I play today. *The names will be mostly based on punni expressions. I wonder if anyone can spot where the came from. The 'Ruforal' come from the Planet 'Ploftehat' in the 'Watrain Spast'-System. They always wondered if there is other life among the Stars. Now after centuries of dreaming, they are finally free to leave the cr…

What is the relativistic mass for a 1kg object accelerated to the speed of light...minus 1 Planck length? That is, "c" minus 1.6 x 10^-35 m/sec?

For those out there (hi, TKD!) interested in Hard Sci-Fi, this is a realistic space combat simulator. It's apparently the work of one single person, and features n-body gravity, a pretty detailed craft and components designer, and a single-player campaign. I've watched some of it on the YouTubes, a Let's Play series by a Brit that goes by the handle Enter Elysium. Just a bit of FYI.

The other night I got my Champions 2e book and Star Hero 3e book back from my daughter. As I put them back on my game shelf, I noticed that I had Fantasy Hero 3e (gift; I don't really like fantasy as a genre), Fantasy Hero 4e and booth of the companions ("gifted" by way of a departing gamer who declared "I'm trying to lose weight for the move. Enjoy!"), and Fantasy Hero 5e (because my wife had read Star Hero 5e and wanted to read Fantasy Hero 5e). Seeing the Fantasy Hero books al lined up, and then the Star Hero books all lined up.... It made me wonder... I bought Star Hero 5e when it came out, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I may use only a tiny percentage of it, b…

A time ago I started this thread: http://www.herogames.com/forums/topic/93386-history-of-the-united-nations-of-sol/ Well, the game just received a major update (1.1.0) wich affected this faction quite a bit. And I know a whole lot more about the mechanics this time around. Let's try this again. The alternate History of the UNS is about to begin. 2200.01.01: We make our Journey into the stars. The players: President Dolores Muwanga (29). Next election 2205. Arjin Kulkarni (38), Governor of Earth Montgomery Resse (47), Deep space Survey Corps. Shi Zhao (40), Aplied Physics Division Leader Dhruv Acharya (30), Soceity & Colonisation Martin Shephard (33)…

I'm looking for suggestions on how to build into a hyperdrive a chance to end up very far away from your intended destination in the case of a misjump, on the order of light years. Would it be some kind of Side Effect? How about if the misjump can actually take you further than the drive can normally go? For example, the drive can normally make up to a ten light year jump, but a misjump could send you twenty or a hundred light years away in a random direction.

My 14 year old has been working on a Wing Commander campaign for some time. He initially built it on a very simplified system he dug up from an abandoned Wing Commander RPG project. Since then he's rebuilt it all in Star Hero 5th ed, and we played through a few of the initial campaigns. Great fun. :-) We're struggling a bit with implementing shields, waffling between using Ablative shields, or working out a house rule to handle the behavior of shields in Wing Commander. We've got a few ideas on how to handle it such as using the body done by the ship based killing attacks as a deduction from the shield strength etc. We had two basic questions: 1. Is there a c…

Buck Rodgers is given a challenge from one of his powerful opponents. To oppose him and make sure that he's not successful, Starbuck is thrown in there as well. They are told that only one shall be able to get out of there alive. Each of them is allowed their respective weapons to assist in the challenge. Which one would be the victor, or would they find some way to turn the tables on their opponents?

Hi all. I'm thinking of creating a one shot scenario to run at my Gaming Club which is set in a somewhat modified version of Rapture; the underwater city from Bioshock. Somewhat altered backstory and no Little Sisters, (because I just know at least one player would start harvesting Little Sisters and I would not be able to look them in the eye afterwards), but still with hideously mutated Splicers everywhere and Plasmids galore. Has anyone ever tried statting out Bioshock or Rapture Hero? And does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

And here is thread Nr. 3 on the mater of a Human Stellar History, this time using 1.2.0 (Asimov) beta. So the game might be a bit wonky as daily patches might go in middle of gameplay. In the 21st century - 100 years before the development of Warp and start of the game proper - the United Nation of Sol send out 6 arcships equipped with powerfull but experimental Wormhole drives and filled with half a million colonists. None of them was heard from again, they were asumed lost and the Womrhole project was ended. The stock faction "Commonwealth of Man" was the result. I choose to make a variant on this, the "Denobulan Directorate". Biography: "The Commonwealth …

I am thinking of running a near SF campaign. The concept here is that a discovery early in the 21st century has allowed humanity to travel up to lightspeed, resulting in colonies around the entire Sol System. This in addition to other things (both good and bad) has lead to a complete change in the way that people live both on and off planet. I would like for the campaign time to be set in the year 3010. I currently have a bit of a timeline and I was wondering what assistance everyone in Herodom could grant.

Another list I'm compiling, figured it would be right at home here on the Star HERO forums: Marcus The Impudite's List Of Preposterously Dangerous Design Flaws Starfleet Vessels Should Never Have Been Allowed To Leave Spacedock With: 1) Lack Of Seatbelts: Yes, Starfleet ships come equipped with Inertia Dampeners; but if I has a nickel for every damned time they've been knocked offline and the crew has been jostled around like the balls in a Bingo hopper, I'd be independently wealthy. Cars have seatbelts. Airplanes and helicopters have seatbelts. The frickin' space shuttle had seatbelts. It's a tried and true safety technology, so it's highly illogical for starship…

I'm probably (hopefully) going to be starting up a Star Hero in the next several months so I need a decent starship's deck plans. No while the move Prometheus left a lot to be desired, I did find myself taking a liking to the ship itself. Same with the Raza from Sci-Fi's Dark Matter. I liked the show for a bit, up until the last few episodes, but still like the ship. My problem comes from, probably, my lack of Google-fu. It is weak. I can't seem to find decent plans for either ship. So, I'm turning to herodom at large for assistance. It might be a little bit before I can make it back to the boards but then, it's going to be a bit before my game star…

Hey, you! Are you writing an alien race, genetic tweak or radical splice? You need fresh genes! Try this handy work in progress of stuff lifted from better authors (plus my own fevered imagination). Some of the game mechanics are a bit spurious... especially on Desolidification. If Desol doesn't protect against damage, I don't make you buy Affects Physical World (APW) with your other attacks. Quite often in 2600CE, Desol is a mental power, so they aren't protected against Mental Powers, and do not have to buy APW with it. (That's still experimental, however, I've yet to see it in play.) I plan on expanding it, adding more detail and eventually writing up all the critt…
