Has anyone thought of running a campaign based on the TV Series, _Lost_? (I must confess I've always been really fascinated by the use of cinematic devices such as flashbacks in RPGs).

Hi Folks, As often happens to me, while I'm supposed to be prepping for one game, my mind wanders to possible future campaigns. I'm currently thinking about two, each involving an alternate history, and each possibly set in what is now the Atlantic coast of what is now Canada. The first is a Vikings-in-the-New-World kind of campaign; the second is roughly a Napoleanic era naval campaign. For both, I am curious about the history and geography, esp. of ports, of the Atlantic coast of Canada. Can anyone reccommend a historical atlas or other resource accessable to the non-scholar that could tell me, for example, whether Quebec and Halifax were prominent settlements …

.50 cal Longarm 1 2

Here's the deal. I am currently running a Robotech campaign, set in the year 2015, Robotech Timeline. My problem is that I want a locally produced longarm for the South American micronian (human-sized) population, and I know next to nothing about gun-smithing as opposed to gun design. I was thinking about going with a large-bore (.50 cal), hammerless semi-automatic rifle. Any thoughts?

I was very excited when I learned that Champions Online existed. I have had a love affair with the Hero System since the very first few months from the first publication of the 1st edition (I still have the books.) I left tabletop gaming fifteen years ago but my interest in the Hero System was rekindled by the thought of being able to play my beloved system online. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that not one iota of the 'Hero System' exists in Champions Online. Instead it seems to be a Diablo variant writ super hero. This post is a muse and a wonder. Does anyone think, or like me hope, that there will someday be the opportunity to play the 'Hero System' …

In 1946, at Area 51 in Roswell, New Mexico, experiments overseen by Albert Einstein in an attempt to find a universal field theorem result in what is at that time described as a "dimensional breach" on December 18, 1946. What came out, however, was a flying saucer piloted by little green men straight out of the pulp fictions, movie shorts and radio plays - in fact, a little too straight out of fiction. At that exact moment, in Cincinatti, Ohio, Leah and Arnold Spielberg give birth to a boy. They name him Steven. By 1964, young Steven Spielberg's obsession with storytelling results in an independent film involving aliens, called "Firelight." The film i…

How would you, as a chartsacter constructor, model the abilityu to summon a mallet out pof thin air and whack someone who is annpoying you with it? Desite the massive weightof the mallet, you would have no trouble weilding it and, while being hit with it hurts like hell and might knock someone unconscious, it;'s nefer fatal. This power is frequently associated with anime, and linked to characters like Akane Tendo (Ranma 1/2) and Kaori (City Hunter). It is usually used as a resaponse to someone you care about (but are in denial about) looking at another girl or doing something equally rude.

Hadn't seen any posts about it yet and since it has both Star Hero AND Post-Apocalyptic Hero possibilities, I figured I'd post this here...... -Carl-

Anyone written up Scorpion's (from Mortal Kombat) ability to pull another towards you? I can't figure it out. I imagine entangle & grab come into play, but what power brings the target to you (transform? from being over there, to being over here?). Similarly, I've wanted a "rocket powered" grapnel hook - like the one so commonly used in Quake (and other death-match/capture the flag PC games). Like the one Kim Basinger gets pulled up w/ in Burton's first Batfilm. I've got every 5E book, and have looked for such a writeup to no avail. I have found grapnel guns (w/ swinging & climbing), but none that actively pull a subject. Help would be gre…

This is the weekend of Anime Expo, where the major importers of Japanese and Korean animation announce many of their plans for the year and what series they've acquired North American rights to. One series of special note is a series called World Destruction. And it is interesting in that the goal of the principal protagonist is to destroy the world. And she's the good guy. She's one of the few people of any ability who treats people halfway decently, whether she want to or not. She gets angry, but won't murder no matter how mad she gets (kill in battle, yes, but murder no). And she possesses an orb with the Destruct Code for the planet. If she can figure out to…

Just curious, I've seen them mentioned on this board a bit, and some part of the Post Apocalypse Hero book seem to be very Thundarr inspired, but has anyone written up the character sheets up for Thundarr, Ookla and Ariel?

Rapier's "Low-Hero Combat" thread got me thinking about the difference between horror and action-adventure. I'm a big fan of horror, yet the genre of RPGs (largely via Call Of Cthulhu and, I suppose, video games) seems to regard it as an action-adventure affair, in which the heroes tote around machine guns loaded with silver, crossbows loaded with wooden stakes and ubiquitous crates of explosives. I understand that most games tend toward action-adventure, yet when I run horror it's more like the movies, where shooting the monster does little good. Fighting with conventional weapons might gain you a little here and there, but ultimately you can't beat the monsters with bru…

A useful post from a friend on the CO forums: ---------------- This is a thread dedicated to those who want to make the most out of their Silver experience, particularly first-time players who might actually read the forums or maybe, by some crazy chance, have this thread linked to them. It begins! So you just got out of the tutorial. Pretty cool, right? You're level 6 now, you can pick up a travel power now! You've just been unleashed into a big city and there's tons of players in the middle area! What should you do first? Before we go anywhere... do you like your Archetype? It's hard to get a good grip on what an Archetype is capable of so early on, so …

Hello all, I'm relatively new to the HERO System, though I've played Champions in the past, I've never gained a complete grasp pf the game system (haven't played it enough at this point). With the release of the 5th Edition, I decided to get back into it. So on to the question: I want to create a game world that is fantasy in nature much like a Fantasy Hero game, but I want to keep the feel as "super heroic" as possible (i.e. change KA's to Normal attacks, etc.) and I want the players to be representations of various forces of nature, essentially low-powered avatar's of nature gods. I don't want them to be equals to say a Champions super hero but I wa…

I just got back from my Anime club's Halloween party, and the big hit of the evening was undoubtedly an adaptation of the classic Japanese ghost story "Yotsuya Kaidan". And the big thing about the adaptation was that it dwelt on the classic play's having a reputation similar to, if not deadlier than, that of "Macbeth" in the English-language theatre. The story is classic revenge tragedy: a social-climbing samurai drives his wife to suicide so that he can marry into greater wealth and prestige, before dying she swears vengeance and then All the Million Hells Break Loose. The murderous samurai starts to go mad, killing his new wife and patron after mistaking them for g…

Basically, you seem to strike the opponent, but don't actually touch them. They flinch anyway as though they've been hit. This was demonstrated on a TV show in the US, as well as a CD from russianmartialart.com (again by the freakily skilled Mikhail Ryabiko. Well, at least according to the reviews and promo.) I have absolutely no idea how to build this. Or what it would it be good for. I just thought it would be neat for a MA character. Help?

One of the crazier things I heard about in MA circles. Systema master Mikhail Rybako (sp!) has been said to slightly dislocate people's joints when using a stick, thereby rendering them unable to move without the use of visible restraints. That is, he dislocates their joints with stick moves, then can take the stick away, and the opponent still can't move, because some of their joints (shoulders, etc.) have been dislocated. How would you build that? I was thinking something like: Entangle, NND, Does not have joints or has more PD than the Entangle does "BODY" damage. Thoughts?

We are going to be experimenting with a role-playing game. We are each creating copies of ourselves as 25+25 characters. We then are given a start of 1 XP to represent any superhero power we want. Each game regardless of challange is worth 5 XP. I'm GMing this and it should prove to be interesting. Anyone ever do something like this before?

Posting here as the novel in question could apply to several genres..... Has anyone read the novel "Watermind" by M.M Buckner ? Saw it on the newsstand, scanned a few pages and it appears to be an environmental techno thriller. I do plan on picking it up when budget allows but was curious if anyone else had seen it and lifted any usable plot hooks..... -Carl-

I was wondering how you would build a variant of Taskmaster's photographic reflexes. Basically, the character can do any martial arts move if shown it a few times, as well as some other things like dance moves. Complex, non-MA moves are beyond him. This is something I can almost do. (I doubt I can play ping-pong, frex. For some strange reason, I suck at it. Juggling too.) No flames, please. This is for a character, not me! ) So how would you build this? I was thinking something like: Aid 4d6, delayed fade rate, must review moves periodically, extra time. I'd use my copy of 4th ed. Ninja Hero, but I can't find it.

Stepping out of the time stream with his G-10 Gauss Assault Rifle at the ready, Slipstream appeared behind the corporate traitor and put two rounds into his head. The traitor’s body collapsed into a heap on the ground. Slipstream could hear movement coming from behind him and felt his body tense up as he stepped back into the time stream. All around him, he could feel the confused Underworld goons trying to get the drop on him. They could have if he didn’t use his gifted abilities of being able to move forward into the time stream two to six seconds at a time. He maneuvered behind an Underworld goon with his rifle at the ready and stepped out of the time …
