Taking these from the early manga, which is very high-school centric. Most of these are meant for a solo character with minor powers, adjust as necessary. World's Scariest Hall Monitor: Hall monitor Ushio ("Beef" would be a reasonable translation) is abusing his authority. He finds kids who are being bullied, and offers his "protection" in exchange for money. Of course, if they refuse to pay up, they're going to have a little accident. Ushio should have stats equivalent to one level of Growth, Always On. He has enough fighting ability to take out most normal bullies, and carries a hunting knife. Since Ushio's a hall monitor, give him a Contact on the school ad…

Anyone here ever write up stats for Lara Croft? If so, please post them. If not, I'm planning to do the job myself and I'll greatly appreciate any and all suggestions. BTW, it's good to see the boards back up at last.

When I was a kid, one of the shows I enjoyed was an import from Japan. I knew it as Watari, but its actual title is Kamen no ninja Akakage (Masked Ninja: The Red Shadow). It had ninjas and monsters galore. Has anyone heard of this show? I know it's pretty old, but maybe someone has seen the new version. The main characters: Akakage (The Red Shadow): The most skilled fighter among the trio. He is a deadly swordsman, and he can fire a ray beam from his mask. Shirokage (The White Shadow): The oldest of the group. While not as powerful as Akakage, he is still a formidable and experienced warrior. Aokage (The Blue Shadow): The kid. He's still learning the trad…

I am told that my copy of Paul Dini's graphic novel Mutant, Texas has shipped. If i can ever get it in a post-worthy form 9darn Hero Designer!) i was thinking it would be nice to put up stats for Ida Red and some of the other important characters in this exciting "tall tale" from the man behind Batman: the Animated Series. The basic premise is thaqt a nuclear accident years ago has fundamentally altered just about everyone in a Texas community who stayed behind, uplifting much of the animal and plant population in the process. A orphaned baby named Ida Red is found and raised by an ursine wisewomanj, and grows up to be be a tall, pretty and lively cowgirl. Then she d…

Ok, after spending most of the last 3 days rewatching the entire first series (which I happen to own on DVD) I thought it would be fun to see if it was Possible to Convert the Lamda Driver over to hero. The version presented here is more for a powered armor suit rather then an AS (Unless sombody can set up a workable AS conversion for me *wink wink nod nod*). Its far from finished but I figured I'd see if I'd missed any of the uses covered in the series and poll what mechanics I should use for it. I'd considered using a VPP, but the LD dosn't see quite That versatile Personnel Lamda Driver The Personnel Lamda Driver (or PLD for short) is a device which converts the…

I was flipping though NINJA HERO looking up something in the NPCs section, and a thought struck me... what did the readers think of them? Was there any you really liked? Any you decided had to be used in your game right now! Any make you laugh? Any make you say "what was he thinking?" Just curious.

Zatch Bell

A manga/anime series (Konjiki no Gash Bell! in Japan) now coming out in America. Basic Story: Booksmart but socially inept (and horribly bullied) junior high student Kiyomaru Takamine one day receives a present from his traveling father. Except that this present is a little amnesiac boy named Zatch (Gash), who has bizarre powers. It quickly emerges that Zatch is only one of one hundred mamono (demons/monsters) who have been sent from Makai (demon/spirit world) to battle for the privilege of becoming King. For reasons that are not at the beginning entirely clear, each mamono must work with a human partner. The mamono's primary powers are locked by a spellbook…

Although the series itself does not have combat (and indeed combat would be incredibly out-of-place in it, in the way that a truly heterosexual female character would be out-of-place in Project A-ko), I was wondering about the Wind Manipulation powers that are the centerpiece of a wonderfullyh lyrical anime series called Windy Tales. There seems to be aburgeoning "magic reality" genre in anime, in which ordinary people and places have fantastic qualities, and Windy Tales is one of the very best of these series. At the local club it is the biggest hit among the membership since Azumanga Daioh, the rapturous recpetion only heightened by the glacial pace at which the fansubb…

Background 1 2

I could of posted this on the DH#31 thread, but I felt it was enough of its own question it deserve its own thread. Maybe I have a case of background envy or at the very least wanting my backgrounds to have more depth, length and pizazz. But I find Hermit's, Bill's and some other people's ability to write background amazing. So a simple request from me (and maybe others), anybody willing to give any tips for background writing?

Howdy, Heroes. After trying unsuccesfully to get my friends into a super hero campaign (go figure, I'm the only grown-up I know who likes comic books... bummer) I've decided it might be more to their liking to do a post-apocalypse kinda game. Actually, it would be their liking to do a D&D game, but not while I'm GMing, by gum. So, the world is going to be essentially a mix of Fallout, Mad Max and Gamma World, set to the tune of an old Clint Eastwood movie. Some time in the 1950s every country lit off their nukes and blew the world to Hell; some survived by living in underground shelters, some just got lucky, yadda yadda yadda. Now, the year is 2250; backgrou…

I think the idea of Prisoner Hero came up before...here's some thoughts I had, first voiced just randomly in the Longest Thread in NGD, but for more serious consideration, here's what I sent to my gaming group: This is to be filed under "games to be played 'someday'". I'd forgotten just how amazing the TV show The Prisoner was until watching it again. Very cool to see the restored versions on DVD. I sort of would consider running Prisoner Hero. You are all ex-spies. You retired for personal, ethical reasons. But just after your resignation, you were ambushed and spirited away to a place known only as "the Village", bounded by "the Sea", and "Mou…

I would think that information about Military based games, tactics, and historical 'unit' builds would be an interesting supliment. I know GURPS has touched on similar with Special Ops and High Tech...but no one has ever sat down and talked much about tactics (small and large) and how these translate into the HERO system. BTW: Dark Champions did a VERY nice job of this but it feels more on the small urban scale. I've been thinking about WWII type engaugements or some pesuo-future fights. Is there existings web resources?

If i wanted to run a Furry HERO game (notice I said "if"), what would be the best way to model the differenes between the various kinds of furries? Are there special ways in hero to build cats that are different from dogs that are different from wolves that are different from fioxes that a different from rabbits, but all able to do essentially the same things humans do in this world? Also, is a restricted diet worth points? If you can only digest meat and all creatures are sentient, then you are either going to be a ruthless killer or society's norms would permit predation (in which case herubores might have to take a very large Hunted to reflect the fact that a sign…
