We're all familiar, through the Mad Max franchise and others, with the idea of a post-apocalyptic world where all or most of the planet is a scorching hot desert environment. How about a one-eighty on that concept: how about a winter wasteland? The idea is the planet is in a new ice age and even setting foot outside requires you to either be physiologically adapted to intense cold or put on full cold weather gear like an Eskimo. Perils could include raging snow and ice storms, attacks by mutant polar bears, etc.

O.k. this dosent really deal directly with roleplaying, but we often base games off of popular fiction so I'm counting it. I've been looking around for a good sci fi/fantasy novel for Christmas, and I 've noticed something. 90% were all part 3 or 4 of the 10 part cycle. Am I the only one to find this annoying.

We're still several weeks away from starting a new season, but I wanted to start a new discussion thread since the old one was getting huge and unwieldy. I also wanted to let you guys know that I am thinking about it and the Arena is undergoing reconstruction. There are going to be some big changes. We may lose a few of you as a result. I hope that we don't, but some things really need to change in the structure. For my sanity and yours as well, I hope. In the meantime, be good and don't hurt any orange supercats.

Let's get this show on the road! Here are the round themes and points again for reference. BONUS POINTS Drafting characters will earn you bonus points depending upon whom you select. Each round will have a theme with special bonus point criteria. Here are the universal criteria and their values. They are cumulative. 3 bonus points if the pick is selected within 24 hours 3 bonus point if character is a non-speaking animal 3 bonus points if the character has never died* 1 bonus point if the character chosen is female 1 bonus point if the character chosen is non-white (does not apply to non-humans) *Death, in this case, means for a year or more of published comics. …

With season two winding down for me I am starting to think of team themes for next season. Things that I have learned to be great bonuses: When in doubt, go for a cute or sexy female. Fame is far more important than power. Good guys play better than vllains. Points are important but can be hard to gain in the draft. I personly prefer having a theme rather than a random association but it can be hard to have a narrow theme when drafting as it makes snipes a bigger problem. ___ So thinking of the above I want to find a theme that let's me have a good chance next time while satisfying as many of my above observations as I can. To aid in that I thought I would outsour…

I've been interested in running a game set in 18th century around the time of the French Revolution, perhaps a few years before. My inspirations are a couple of television series: Nicolas le Floch, based on the novels, and Anno 1790. There will be some swashbuckling action, but much of the setting will include politics and detective work. There won't be any supernatural or magical elements in this game. Characters would be standard heroes. Characters would have skills rather than powers. Some combat ability would be handy, as would detective skills and the High Society skill. Here are a couple of videos of the series to give you an idea of what I'm trying to do:

So I'm rewatching a few Scooby doo episodes when something occurred to me. Scooby can talk, and is as smart as a person. Can outrun practically anything. Can morph his body into almost any shape. Is constantly fighting a series of colorfully garbed crooks. Scooby doo isn't a mystery solving dog. He's a superhero.

OK, this is not something I ever thought would happen. I've been asked to run a 1-shot adventure as a team-building exercise at work. 8 players, only one with any RPG experienced at all. Requests were for "Jane Austen" and "gritty fight for survival." So the scenario is that a British ship is wrecked off a Caribbean island circa 1810, and the party has to make it to safety. If you could make your boss play an RPG, what would you want in it?

(From a Deadlands campaign; this piece was written about a year ago, but I seem never to have posted it anywhere.) Kammuschel raced along, the long plume of the rocket motor streaming behind in the general direction of the pursuing steam gunboat Jíxiáng Qǐzhòngjī. The latter's bow chasers fired every now and then, raising a splash sufficient to remind Kammuschel's crew of the gunboat's hostile intent, but never close enough even to inconvenience them. The rocket boat clearly had much greater speed than the sternwheeler, and a couple of minutes should see them safely out of the other's range. Manfred, at Kammuschel's helm, cursed in German suddenly and loudly, fa…

Not for the faint of heart: http://rannierodil.deviantart.com/art/Popeye-the-Sailor-Moon-553110681 This is pretty awesome, she may have come up with it on her own, but Popeye the Sailor-Moon is a character in Evil Fleet's gencon arena extravaganza. Sadly, there's not a "Contact us" link on their website so I'm posting it here. Hoping someone sees it

Hi everyone. Hope I put this in the right spot. Long time fan of HERO since early college and been here for a few years I believe, but usually lerked. Played quite a few HERO games as a GM. Anyways, I'm still using 5th Ed revised and im considering running a science Fantasy style campaign similar to sources like the Anime Outlawstar, Bucky O'Hare, or Archies Sonic the Hedgehog comic. Between technology and magic, the feel is somewhere between 50/50 and 60/40 ish is what I'm going for. Level is Heroic and will incorporate some kind of lvl up system. So I really need some help on this and apologies if these have been asked before. A few questions I have for this: …

As I am about to start a Lucha Libre Hero game set in Vibora Bay I thought I'd share my ideas on why it became synonymous with Masked Wrestlers It all begins with Therakiel falling from Heaven and crashing through the San Sebastián swamp, when he awakens it's the 1930s and he begins to study the humans in the city and he realises that there will be no bystanders in the forthcoming final battle between Heaven and Hell, as all humans must choose to side with either Light or Darkness, so to understand how they would respond he created a culture where there are no grey areas Lucha Libre, and empowered individuals with great fight abilities. So in my campaign all of the Hero…

SEMPER FI FADE IN ON 1 INTERIOR: NARROW CORRIDOR AND STAIRWELL. The corridor is OLD and DINGY, with scattered spots of RUST, WATER STAINS, and the like. The LIGHTS are dim resulting in dark SHADOWS. THE CAMERA pans over three XSWAT OFFICERS standing near one wall. They are (in order): OFFICER MIYAKO BENEDICT TROOPER OFFICER STEFFENS IOTA EMPATH OFFICER FERRER TROOPER/SNIPER BENEDICT is on point, carrying a COMBAT SHOTGUN. The FLASHLIGHT under the barrel is on and she is panning it around constantly, checking all corners. STEFFENS is next. He is a rookie, scarcely a few months into his stint with XSWAT. He also looks to be either SICK on in PAIN. FERRER…

For a long time now i have been wanting to run games using elements of sports. Other than martial arts manuvers, I have never been sure how to pull this off. The ultimate logical extension of what I'd like to do is be able to run a baseball game or football game using HERO rules. I liked the idea of two super-hero teams from different ciites getting together for an annual softball game. (It was even an illo in one of the Champions supliments, Quantum flying up to catch a baseball sent out of the park by Defender....I don't recall which book) But... How does one work the mechanics??? Pitching and batting looks like a Skill vs. Skill contest but it also looks kin…

That way, all match-ups in week 1 of playoffs are new, no repeats.
