How would you model an attack that causes pain, but it doesn’t actually do any damage? An NND? A Drain vs STUN? Something else?

Stories abound about heroes performing feats that most people think impossible, even if they are normal humans. They will usually perform these for reasons onto themselves. Cap America is usually said to be the ultimate patriot, Hulk for reasons of simple might challenge, Batman a combination of justice and vengeance, among many other. However, at times heroes will wonder why they are doing this. Spidy is frequently attempting to quit (only to get pulled back), Bats occasionally committed that he has more impact on the economy than the villains. Just wondering if folks here think Champions/HERO would work as a skirmish miniature combat only game? Coming from a Heroclix and Marvel Crisis Protocol background (neither game I liked much) I'm wondering if these rules would work for my needs? Thanks

Hello, most helpful community in the multiverse! Next set of questions for my AI piloted assault robot/power armor... 1. What does having an extra set of limbs with ambidex actually accomplish? What's the benefit? I'm trying to envision how I would use them in combat in particular and what the advantage is. 2. Hello! Me again... I'm building an AI controlled assault robot with a 500 pt build. Does anyone have suggestions as to what powers I could use for a sensor array package? Thermal, IR... etc? I'm assuming it wouldn't cost that much, either. It's a robot doing a tactical scan of the area, is the flavor I'm after and not too long range... let's say a 1/2 mile since these rules are so specific. My other questions is, could I tap the Equipment book to tackle this instead of trying to find the correct Power to accomplish it?

I want my character to have a Dependence, and I wondered if the Effect could be stacking Unluck? So every time period without the substance the character gets more unluck. Or maybe I should just buy Unluck with a Limitation, only after time without the substance? Probably a -1.

I'd like a power to require TWO people to take a full phase to begin. Is this an advantage or limitation? Context: The hero was created by a very paranoid group. What if we make this powerful hero and they turn into a villain? So they built some disadvantages into the hero. One, they are vulnerable to Green Argonite. Second they have a DNPC. It's a cop that follows them around, just keeping an eye on the hero and never providing support. If the cop suspects the hero has turned, even if due to mind control, they are to use a gadget to Transform weapons and such into Green Argonite. Adventuring is a tough and difficult life for those who desire to take that way. Frequently things will take a turn against the hero and they have a great possibility of death. When that happens, can they be resurrected? If yes, what is the method - tech/magic/other? What is the price for being brought back? Are they fully healed or still need healing? Is there a limit to resurrection? Any other problems with this?

I’ve been looking over possible combinations of PD/ED and Damage Negation (Stun Only) to try and get a balance that allows a possibility of BODY damage without too frequent stunning results. With a 12d6 attack, the average is 12 BODY and 42 STUN. If I give the character 12 PD, they can ignore the average BODY damage but will likely be stunned. Slightly better rolls will start doing BODY damage. Adding 6d6 of Damage Negation (STUN Only), the average STUN damage drops to 21 and BODY remains at 12. If I raise the PD 25% (to 15), BODY damage still remains likely, and the character will take some STUN damage with each hit. …

So here I am again with another strange question: Still converting 3 edition characters and a special effect has stumped me. "Vulnerability to Cosmic/Primal Energies". Would a Solar Flare special effect count? I am literally at the coin-flip decision stage. Plot wise is irrelevant as this game is "Mostly episodic, with some continuing stories". We're just to pass time between D&D campaigns. DM is working out of area for a few more months with no internet access.

Hope this doesn't fall in the "well, duh" category....and also forgive me int hat I'm really just familiar with 4th edition...but when you buy Flight, do you automatically get "x2" non combat movement for free? I originally thought it had to be purchased, but in character write ups I usually only see non combat move if it's x4 or greated Have a great Easter all!

Could someone give me a hand with at least getting started with creating an alien sentient "robot" in a exo-skeleton/power armor? I have a 500 point build for this campaign we are starting. I am familiar with Champions but haven't looked at the books in 30+ years. I do have Champions Complete, Powers & Vehicles. I'm just not seeing anything that is straightforward in terms of creating the power armor. I can handle the powers (energy beams, etc). I just need some help with the armor. Vehicles has rules for Mecha, but that's not what I'm looking for. Any/all help is appreciated!

Question for GMs. If I take as an example from vol 1 on page 35, in the heroic category (very powerful) it is written that the CV on average is 5-9. How do you handle that, if the players have CSL and martial arts. Despite the CSL, the material arts CV must still not exceed 9? How do you keep the fight balanced? Thank you in advance Steph

It is oft said on the internets rpg'o'sphere that GURPS is better for running campaigns/settings that are closer to 'human/normals' power scales and that GURPS tends to break down at higher 'superhero/cosmic' power scales. And it is oft said that the HERO System is better for running at higher power level 'superhero/cosmic' scales but lacks the granularity to run campaigns/settings closer to 'human/normals' power scales. Now IMO I'd say HERO does lack the amount of 'granularity' I'd like for near normals/heroic roleplaying and has no problem at all modeling superheroic/cosmic scale power level games. I apologize if this has been asked and answered, but I can't find anything that directly addresses my question. In the HERO Designer, I'm buying a Skill Level for the group "All Intellect Skills", but when it's added, the skills based on INT do not change to reflect the addition of the skill level. Am I doing something wrong or is this somehow the expected behavior of the application? I'm on the Skills tab and just double click Skill Levels and add a skill named +1 with all Intellect Skills or whatever. No matter what, it will not change the roll for INT skills. What am I doing incorrectly? -M

I was playing around with Custom Maneuvers and found something weird on the "Hoist ‘n’ Heave" maneuver under the Martial Arts Style "Dirty Infighting/Fisticuffs/Cinematic Brawling". When recreating it I am showing it as costing 6 points, not 5. Settle an old argument between me and fellow GM/player.I say that there are drawbacks to INVISIBILITY ALWAYS ON he said there wasn't. Most of these drawbacks are social in nature but there are a few combat problems too. Am I right? Would you allow a player to take invisibility always on? Context- this was an old Champions game and I had a character who just gained invisibility as a new power and for laughs I said he had trouble controlling it.

In 6th edition does a character that has the power Takes No Stun need CON? I could be missing something, but from what I can see there is no reason such a character could not buy down his CON to 0. Also, assuming the character bought all powers including STR and movement to 0 END they could also buy down REC, and END to 0. Is there anything that would prevent this?

Below is a description of one my characters that turned himself into an alien/human hybrid. Since turning himself into some that is not human anymore he has complete one of his two goals in life. That goal was to become something that did not have the frailties of a human. He believed that combing his DNA with that of an alien's DNA could do that. So I found myself in need for a creepy UFO in my game. Then lazy me remembered the crashed saucer from the book "Wrath of the Seven Horsemen" YAY pre-generated map. Reading the book I was saddened by the lack of a write-up of any type, other then a few sparse notes. Some of the notes are easer then others to convert, except for one that has stumped me. So, you have an attack power. The power has Can Draw From END Reserve or Personal END. Say you want to use this power in a Multiple Attack...you're going to try to strike a few different people. The question is...do all the strikes have to draw from the same source, or can I split up the END between the two? The only text is in the END Reserve power itself, and it doesn't specify anything about the actual mechanics of switching the END source, and there's no errata about it.

I'm updating my velocity calculator to use the special timing rules for Leap. From 6E1 243: These are actually inconsistent statements. A normal maximum-distance leap is a full move, and thus takes a full phase. With 1 NCM, the freebie, the first part says it takes 1 phase. But the second part says it should take 2. The example gives 4 purchased NCMs for x32, and such a leap takes 5 phases. This is consistent with the first section. The "every doubling" clause is redundant, as well.
