Back by popular demand! This file, which is also available for free from the Hero Games Online Store, contains all the errata known to me as of today. If you find an errata in the core rulebook which isn't listed here, please PM me to inform me about it. Please don't post it here, because I may not see it. Sending it to me directly ensures that I won't overlook it. 6E Errata 2020-02-09.pdf

Howdy Herophiles! Time for a WDYWTS thread about our next awesome book: Mythic Hero, which I've been itching to write for a long time now. Our shorthand description for MH around here is "Steve's version of Deities & Demigods," and while that's a good one-sentence pitch I think the key words there are "Steve's version." I think this book is going to go significantly beyond other gaming supplements on the subject. Or at least, that's my intent. Here's what the book will contain as it's currently conceived: Chapter One: Gods In Gaming: A review of a bunch of useful introductory material, much like HSB has its own Chapter One. It will cover "Templates…

I thought this thread might be of interest to board members. Its a discussion of how vital and active, how "Healthy" Hero System currently is in the rpg industry. Given the location there's allot of less throwing dirt on Hero's coffin and smug grave dancing than you might expect and some good points have been raised. https://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?776862-Hero-System-Champions-How-s-it-current-health Any thoughts or observations?

1. Will there ever be a 7th edition of Hero System? 2. If there is, should the system move towards simplification and less complexity, or towards extending the modularity introduced in 6th? 3. Are there any glaring "legacy" mechanics from previous editions crying out for revamping and revision? 4. Should the product be less "generic" and more oriented towards specific settings? 5. Should there be more characteristics? Fewer? About the same number? What about rules for optional stats? 6. Should complications be revamped, or even removed/made optional? Should power limitations and complications be merged, at least in some instances? 7. Should costing be simplifi…

As the title says, I think 6e is the best version of the rules published. However, I see grumbling and shade thrown on it here and there by various posters on these hallowed forums. Now, as it happens, I am aware of the broad strokes of the most common gripes people voice, but in the interests of collation and collegial discourse, I invite people to forward their personal arguments as to why they do not feel that 6e is the best version of the rules. Please keep it polite and in the spirit of reasonable discussion, and if it comes to it, friendly disagreement.

It was suggested that maybe we create a thread for new people who are posting and especially for lurkers. So here is what I would like to suggest everyone post as an introduction: How did you come up with your 'handle' (forum name)? What was the first tabletop RPG you played? What was the first tabletop RPG you GMed? What are you currently playing/GMing? I hope this thread gets pinned.

So in my years of RPG and specifically playing Hero, I have taught three different groups to play Hero. The first time was after college when I formed a gaming group. The people who wanted to play either knew AD&D, participated in the SCA, or were just your everyday nerds ... I taught all of them how to play Hero. After a while a few players were able to create their own characters without much help from me. Other people in the group started running games and they used Hero because they liked it. The second time was when we moved and we formed a new group. A few of us knew how to play Hero and the rest were all AD&D players. That was a short lived grou…

Creating Hero System Characters 101 I am tired of posting pieces of this in other threads. This is the process I go through when I create a character. It includes the "campaign reality check" stuff to check your stats, defenses and other stuff to make sure that you aren't a total wimp or too powerful http://tashasbraindump.blogspot.com/2010/09/creating-hero-system-characters-101.html Where I posted this first. --- Creating Hero System Characters 101 It is pretty common for someone to look at the Hero System rule book and be totally overwhelmed by the options inside. Usually first characters are a mish mash of powers of wildly varying powerlevels and are not really suit…

I know there are short descriptions of all Powers in 6E1 and CC. But I think they are insuficcient to get an overview fast (you have to read through every power first to understand "what does what"). I know that space constraints simply allow not for a more detailed treatment. I am a programmer and I sometimes have likened Hero to a programming language. I know that for them a good first overview is important to get a grasp of the ideas and paradigms behind the design. I want to give a better explanation, to help navigate the powers easier for new GM's and players. It also might give a prospective buyer just enough insight to roughly understand published Character sheets …

First of all, full disclosure, I know nothing about military weapons and vehicles nor do I know much about physics, which is probably the main reason that I have to ask this. The defensive stats for a Abrams MBT are listed at 30/20. According to 6E2 pgs. 196-197, the 30 defense is for the front of the tank and the 20 defense is for the sides, bottom, and top. If a character with a Strength of 100 punches the front of the tank, he would have virtually no chance of even scratching it. A character that strong can lift 25,000 tons. It seems like someone that powerful could make a better showing against the vehicle even when attacking its least vulnerable area. Hell, I w…

Hi, hello, and welcome! I own Hero System 6th. I am kinda drawn to the system, but fear that (as GM) it's a bucket load of work to run a game. I picture me sitting up to the wee-hours designing NPCs, designing weapons, and basically engineering every minute detail of equipment needed for my game. And then I'd need to persuade my group that it's a) easy to play, and worth the effort to learn. My question: Why should we run Hero 6th? What does Hero give me that makes the benefits outweigh the effort? Secondary question: If you persuade me, what can I do to make GMing easy?

What are the differences between the editions? I really hate learning new systems but I feel like my 4e is pretty dated. I'm not sure if our group is going to get back together after our summer hiatus but I'm wanting to take a serious turn at being a player for a while. I would like to rebuild my brick Verbeeg (Very Big) with the new rules but I'm not sure it's worth the investment. Enlighten me.

Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Oops, I guess I lied. I guess I still have some pedant to peddle. No, since the "Primary Characteristics" no longer determine the base values of the "Figured Characteristics," their functionality has diminished, so only some of it is still there...

All of the websites where I knew it was stored are gone to the obliterating tides of time.... and not a small number of people have emailed me in the past year or so asking where the copy I was hosting was, as it returned a SQL Database error. As bigdamnhero has requested one for his new campaign, and as I'm a player I thought it best to help the GM out, I found my original files (3 archive hard drives deep and counting... I need a better system) and found all the backend logins I needed, fixed it all up, and we're back. It was originally built in the days of "Disadvantages" and "Limitations" instead of just "Complications" and so that stands - because this was a …

Oh no! Here we go again, right? I've followed and participated in lots of different discussions where people wish that HERO System would release complete games rather than genre books or campaign settings. But I'm a bit unclear what would be considered a "complete game," and what would make it appear to be "complete." I'm all for it, but I'm not entirely sure what it means. I know, I'm bringing up that same thing that routinely gets brought up, but I think it is valuable to at least be clear on some of the nomenclature that gets used so we can be clear on what people actually want to see from HERO System. Let me start with a few definitions/categories: …

There are a number of threads on the forum regarding using Hero rules to play Star Wars. I have browsed them, using Google searches to find them. I was wondering about how to handle the different power levels of the characters, like say a smuggler versus a jedi. My thoughts are to have the characters buy everything with points like in a Champions game, so that way you could have a 200-point bounty hunter with nifty armor and lots of skills, or use those points to buy jedi powers and a lightsaber etc. Does this make sense to the posters here? I don't have the Star Hero rules in front of me, but IIRC you use money to buy weapons, gadgets, armor etc. but I think …

Anyone who has seen The Incredibles will recall the scean where Mr. Incredible gets plastered with the growing metalic blobs of "stuff". What would be the best way to model this? My gut reaction was a an entangle , but how would you emulate the stuff building up on you and slowing you down, finally pinning you and smothering or knocking you out? It could also be a movement drain with a linked entangle that only activates when all movement is reduced to zero. Any ideas?

The recent discussion in a different posting about the Champions Now Kickstarter project made me think back to my Hero System/Champions experiences than spans over 30 years. Even though my first superhero RPG was Villains & Vigilantes by Fantasy Games Unlimited, when I first received Champions 3rd Edition as a gift, I became a lifelong fan and collector, to include the various comic issues published at one point by Eclipse Comics that featured Marksman, Flare, and so on. In addition to owning/playing Champions, I also owned/played DC Heroes by Mayfair Games (1st and 3rd Edition), Silver Age Sentinels (Tri-Stat and d20 versions), Mutants and Masterminds and…

Hello everyone, As i spend more time playing with the HERO system i find it increasingly difficult to adapt or try to play with another system. I own like 100 system core rulebooks trying all these years to find the holy grail that will bring the right mix of freedom of creation and flexibility on the crunchiness level required for each party but nothing surpasses HERO. In my current state if i open a new core rulebook its a matter of time until i get to a dead end regarding character option or GM'S options(and being mostly a GM for the last 18 years that's really a problem) also what makes HERO system really exceptional is its support, very few system have an…
