Hello, Recently, I purchased the Power Ranger RPG, and I'm working on converting the setting to the HERO System. The mechanics of the Power Ranger RPG (using 'Essence 20') are just not satisfying me, and so I've decided to make the effort to convert the flavor of it into HERO. Below, you'll see what I think to be a fairly well detailed description of how I would like the basic 'Morphing' mechanic to work. All the PCs will be doing this on a regular basis, so it's important to me that I get this core aspect correct before I move on to what I consider the 'easier' aspects of conversion of the setting. If you have time, I'd love to see your thoughts a…

Hello all, As a GM, I have created a siren-type NPC who has a fully invisible EGO drain only vs. men. I'm curious - what would the male heroes feel (if anything)? Would they feel just more susceptible to suggestions or would they not feel anything until she uses one of her mental powers on them? Thank you!

This is for a spell, and the effects I'm going for are: This spell lets me know I'm being "spied upon" (Detect Observation). The observation can't be obvious, it must be covert in some manner -- anything from scrying, to CCTV cameras, to a location-tracking bug, to a bloke wiv' a newspaper what's got eyeholes innit. I can't automatically target them, I only know that they exist and they're in roughly that direction; I can try to find out more details with a bit of effort (END cost). A variation of this spell lets me do the same thing with a defined area. Pretty much just as above, but takes more effort (increased END cost). Finally, I can make it so anot…

One of the things I have always loved about Hero is the language chart and associated systems for interrelation, etc. I'm wondering if anyone has done, or is aware of, expanded language tables. The 4e / 5e table is solid for Europe (to be expected) and the Americas, but once you get into Africa and Asia its much more vague. Basically, I'm big on pulp, espionage, and globetrotting adventure and am focusing on "non-traditional" areas of adventure. I can sit down and do a ton of research, but it would be great if someone else had already done it! So, is this something that exists?

Gang: I have a game which genre shares the use of Star Hero in that there will be spaceship combat. As a practicality, my universe won't allow combat at FTL, but most ships in space if not going FTL, they travel at Megascale speeds. That said, I read that any use of Megascale automatically makes it non-combat when it is applied to movement. (If I am wrong on this, please point me to the rules for such) In this case, an Megascale be used as non-combat as ships have immense power and can handle combat at much higher than normal speeds. Is there a ruling on this in the RAR, or may I need to make a general exception as a GM in my game?…

It is probably NOT a part of a power when you buy Based On PRE for mental powers, but how much would it cost as an advantage to have PRE Attack modifications upon it? If I would allow it, I'm sure it would be a Stop Sign advantage. Would +1 be acceptable?

In my campaign, I have a character that has a portable AI that is capable to do visual and audial illusions. In one scenario, there are a pack of wolves attacking the team and the player doesn't want to kill the wolves but drive them away. I entertained an unspoken rule to say that you can cause an Ultrasonic Ear-Splitting pain in an AoE that encompasses a cavern they are all in with an exit. The player is programming his AI to release an Ultrasonic-level, high amplitude sound, which would cause pain to the Wolves. Instead of Stun, which would Knock someone out, this is a sound that would cause them discomfort, in which they would need to roll an E…

Hey All: Something came up and I wonder if this is first an acceptable item in Hero, and if so, how to properly go about it, Rules As Written(RAR). I have a team in my campaign--I am the GM--and One player was going to wait and build up points to make a base. I was wondering, to expedite this and give all players equal access to this resource, is there a RAR means of being able to provide a group pooling of XP(CP) to "buy" resource points for a base? Of course, the long term resolution is to literally give them a base of operations on. This includes for example an Interstellar FTL Starship, which can be VERY expe…

Partly to let me keep track of my own questions, and to get answers. Okay! I'm trying to figure out how to simulate this effect: I can make one target at a time suffer a momentary spasm or twitch. Most of you know what that looks like -- briefly lose your grip on something and fumble for it, stumble as you're walking along a normal path, and so on. Voluntary muscles only -- no stopping someone's heart. Anything that can be recovered from in about a second or so (a little more if you tripped and fell). The important thing is that I activate it, you "twitch", and we're done; if I want you to keep having problems, I must repeatedly do this to you (so no Constant …

Hello, I am trying to create a system called “crests” that are part of a setting im working on. The gist is that they are a sort of buff that does nothing on its own, but characters within this setting can use them to make their powers stronger. This is kind of like boostable charges but I’d like for my players to be able to help each other and generate these crests for each other with certain powers. The catch is you can only have 5 of them at a time, and they can’t be recovered over time, they have to be generated with spells. Additionally characters are attuned to one of six elements in the setting and can only utilize/generate crests of their own element.

Hello, I'm new and I salute you, I have a few questions about how absorption works as a defense. 1)Is it possible to add the lasting advantage to the absorption power having taken the resistant advantage? 2)Having Absorption as a resistant defense how exactly does it work? For example: i have 10pd resistant absorption and 10pd resistant protection, I take 25body or stun enter 5Body or stun and absorb only 5? after these questions based on the answers I will surely ask others these, thank you in advance and I apologize if the English is unclear, I am not a mother tongue

Hello All, I came upon a thought while walking my dog on how to handle “entangles” for Mortal Kombat. It seems to me the best way to represent Sub-Zero’s Freeze Attack and Scorpion’s result of his Line Grab is for the opponent to suffer an Entangle. The thing is, in the game both effects go away after some time passes. Bingo, like Flash. So the limitation would be that Body decreases 1 segment that passes until 0 then the Entangle goes away. (Naturally there are other limitations but I want to focus on this). How much -1/2 or -1?

In "Ultimate Base" (if I recall correctly), the author wrote that having a Laboratory for certain Interaction skills would be problematic. One such specific skill he mentioned was High Society. For some of my own NPCs, I created "Labs" in their Lairs (i.e. Bases) for various Interaction Skills (primarily Conversation and High Society) by naming the "Lab" something appropriate to the character's concept and setting, such as a Great Hall (for a castle) or a Grand Salon and/or Ballroom (for a palace). Just thought I'd share this idea. Thanks, Franklin

Greetings. I really could use some help due to I am really confused on the matter building weapons. For last month now I been reading alot of HERO 6th and start to get alot of hang of it, how to make powers, advantages, limitations, how combat works and so on. There are still a few things that I havn't grasped yet but still working on it. However, there is one thing that remains unclear to me, the subject in how to build your own weapons. Normal, one could just add Obvious, Accessible Focus (OAF), then add some damage to it and be done with it. But if you want to get deeper into it, there are alot of other variables that need to taken into acount. And when i compared wi…

It’s probably not legal and seems pretty cheesy, but I just had a thought about setting up an NND attack so that it only works if you have the Life Support defense that would normally work against poisons. So, if you don’t have Life Support versus poison, it won’t affect you. The special effect explanation is it’s turning your own immune system against you, or something like that.

I was flipping through the Champions Complete book and noticed this tidbit: Now... this doesn't make sense to me in the slightest degree. I think you should be able to tunnel out of anything you can tunnel into, both depending on the special effects and how your tunneling is built. I mean if you have to gesture, you can't tunnel out, etc. What is the basis for this ruling? I mean it cannot be something about tunneling not actually dealing damage, since you can tunnel to set someone free from an entangle.

I have a player that wants to be blind but have spatial awareness (SA). Can he make attacks that require LOS? It says under SA that they can also "see" through walls so if he can use LOS via SA does that mean he can use his LOS attack through walls? Thanks in advance. Laser

Here's something that I got thinking about recently. While everyone has the ability to grab random items and use them as weapons at no charge, some individuals seem to possess an innate ability that exceeds what most people can do. I have not been able to discover some method that will properly simulate some way to perform this. To remedy this, I am proposing the Improvised Weapon skill. This will be a conventional 3/2 DEX skill that will allow someone to grab something that can be used in one hand that cannot be considered a weapon and then turn it into a weapon. This could be a stone, eraser, tablet, or any other device that GM allows. Exceptions will be afore…

Does anyone have any experience with lowering the base target number from 11 to 10? I tried finding mention about toolkitting the base number for combat, but I think it was only in reference to skill rolls (HS6E1 55). I did see that Combat & Adventuring talked about the bell curve some (HS6E2 280-281), but it only talks about the bell curve, not so much the effect changing the base number would have on the game. I thought I remembered reading somewhere the idea behind setting 11- as the default, but I can't seem to find it now. First, I am just wondering if anyone has any experience with using TN 10- as the base number and what impact it had o…

What would you rate the limitation for a 4d6K where you drop the lowest die? Would you only put the limitation on 1d6K (15 active) or on the whole 4d6K (60 active)? Example: You roll 4d6K and get 1,3,4,6. You would drop the lowest die, a 1, and get 13 for the 3,4, and 6. You then determine stun normally.

I'm confused by the extra time to activate and use phrasing of the limitation... It's obvious when applied to something like a Blast, but what about an ability that affects other abilities...? I'd like to make a character with Penalty Skill Levels versus the Range Modifier, but to use them you have to take a full phase to aim, and then can make the ranged attack on your next phase... Given you would have to do the full phase of aiming before every ranged attack, is this the -1/2 or the -3/4 version of the Limitation...?

Over at the Hero Games 2021 there's been some discussion of formatting Talents with the full builds in the back of the book. This has me wondering about the Hero Stat Block. Does everyone use the common stat block? Are there variations that you think works better? Is it time for a new stat block? What works best for you?

Has anyone created a list or Templates for Cars and other inanimate Objects (Steel Beams, Poles, Fences, etc., etc..) listing their DEF & Body for use in Campaigns? For Example, A steel guard town built with 4 Steel I-Beam legs standing at 20-30 feet high. Surrounded By a 12' (4M) Razor Topped Steel Electrified Fence, with 5' reinforced concrete walls. I am Assuming Steel I-Beams are 7-8Def with 5 Body; The Fencing is 3 Def with 2 Body; and the Concrete Barrier might be 5 Def with 4 Body.... Does this sound about right? Looking for Template or list (or Book Supplement) containing this type of information.... Thanks

Damage Negations seems ineffective compared to other defenses for the same cost. For example, consider two possible characters, who each spend 30 character points on defenses: The first buys 8 levels each of Resistant PD and Resistant ED, for 24 points, and 6 levels of Knockback Resistance The second buys 3 Damage Classes each of Physical Damage Negation and Energy Damage Negation When faced with a normal damage attack, either physical or energy, the first character's defences reduce the damage by 8 Body, 8 Stun, and 6m knockback. The second character reduces the damage by 3 dice, and thus-if I did the math right-by an average of 3 Body, 10.5 Stun, and 6m k…

We can get some more enjoyment with our characters here. Let's make someone in some genre by the word given. While this word should be some common word, that doesn't need to be the case. It doesn't matter what genre this character is in, if they possess powers, or essentially anything else. All that can be decided by you when the character is generated. After you create your character, you should put down another word for the next person to work on. First option: Byte
