Which of the non-martial maneuvers would be used to trip someone? I figure Martial Throw could be a trip, but shouldn't "ordinary" people be able to trip? On a more general note, what happens if people who didn't buy a Martial Maneuver want to do it anyway? For stuff that's just a "better" version of regular maneuvers, like Martial Dodge or Offensive Strike, just saying "you can't" is good enough. I mean, I could do a jump kick on someone, but I wouldn't get any in-game benefits -- it'd just be a normal Strike, and my "martial" dodge would still only add 3 to my DCV. But what about things like Choke Hold or Martial Throw? I mean, anyone can try and grab your…

Why is the limitation "Must be within 4" of surface worth -1/2 while "Only in contact with surface" is a -1/4 (as per 5th edition)?

I'm trying to build a pilot's flight suit, particularly the g-suit portion of it. I had worked out the following: G-Suit: Environmental Movement (no penalties on High-G environments) (2 Active Points); OIF (-1/2), Only to compensate for high-g flight maneuvers (-1/4) (1 Real Point) Opinions? Aroooo

While I have liked the change that creatures' size is a limitation rather than a power, which avoids the problem of summoning an ant costing dozens of points , I think more needs to be done regarding Summoning and Beasts points. (Summoning is something I don't mess with much, thus why this is coming up only now for me.) I'm in the process of making some summoning cantrips, so I was perusing the Bestiary for point costs, as well as reviewing the Summoning power, and got the following results: Summon Average Person, 1pt (minimum) - because they don't cost anything Summon Rat (Tiny Mammal), 3 pts - because they cost 14 pts Summon Dog, 3 pts - because they cost 1…

a character at 0 body is dying, but isn't quite dead until he is at - original value. So how much of a limitation would it be for body (only to push back the cusp of death)? By which I mean, a character with 10 body buys an extra 10 body with this limitation, such that he has a max of 10 body, starts dying at 0, and is dead at -20. a -1 limitation sounds right to me, but I thought I'd ask.

A player of mine recently submitted a character to me for review, and I had a little trouble figuring out one of his powers. Okay, here it is... Characteristic 30 STR 20 Powers 52 Variable Advantage; +3/4 (+1 1/2) on 30 STR, (7, 4, or 0 END) Okay. 30 STR. 20 points. (If I can't figure that out, I don't need to be playing.) Seriously, when I looked up VA, I read the description pretty thouroughly. I understand how it works as an advantage, but for some stupid reason I just don't understand the power write-up. How do you put an advantage on the characteristics? How would you figure up the BAR (base, active, real) costs on STR as a characteristic. I know…

Would you consider the use of the +1/2 Advantage "Conforming" from Area of Effect to be appropriate for use with the "Change Environment" Power?

How do you design an ability to regenerate that isn't always available? Is there a problem with Regeneration being Persistent? More specifically, I have a molten character (T1000) that can regenerate if he becomes an insensate puddle. After regenerating, he's totally wiped out.

Aura Advantage? A power that is basically area affect, radius 2 hex. That is centered on the person that is using the power but does not effect him. I have not seen a good example of this so I am thinking….. +1 Area of Effect +1/4 Personal Immunity -1/2 No Range (if appropriate) -1/2 reduced AOE: radius 2 hex (if appropriate) That’s kind of clunky…..but it fits what I want to do. Any one else have any ideas? Maybe just a new +1/2 or +3/4 Aura Advantage? Thanks

I read quickly through the VPP rules, but am still missing something. What is the cost exactly? Let's say you pay 60 points for the VPP cost, then another 30 for the control cost. How much extra do you pay for each power? Are there slots for powers like in a multipower or can you just use any power you want (restricted by the special effects of the VPP)? If you want a VPP with Transform, EB, Flash, do you have to pay for any of them (like 60 points for each or something, modified by limitations and advantages) or do you just use any of them you want as long as they add up to 60 points total? (changes to the use restricted by the VPP limitations of course). …

As far as a player choosing more disadvantages than he has spent in points, yes; I've done this myself. I don't know that I intentionally set out to load myself down with disadvantages, but this can happen inone of two ways: 1. build disadvantages first and then go back and build chars., skills, powers, etc. or 2. don't add up the point totals on the disads as you are choosing them. That's how it usually happens to me. I come up with the disads rather quickly because they flow smoothly from the character conception and you don't have to deal with power modifiers and complicated math. Before I know it, bam, I've got a an extra 10-30 points of disads. Now at this poi…

I´m at long last trying to write up a magic system for my very own fantasy campaign, and I´ve hit a little snagette. Being aware of my status as a total n00b at Hero, I turn to you, the-finest-minds-of-Herodom and sundry. The basis of working magic in my little world is through summoning and negotiating with spirits of various kinds, ranging from the guardian of a candlelight to the very foundation of the world, Gnome himself. These spirits live in another world, and magi and spirits meet in the Between, overlaying and just a shadow away from either world. The spirits travel between their world and the Between rather easily (and on to the mundane world with a bit m…

I'm sure this has come up before but... Unbreakable (the movie). He had this ability to touch someone and sense/see "bad" things they had done. How would you write this up? I'm think Telepathy or Clairsentience (retrocog), but I can't figure out how to make it always, involentarily, activate upon physical contact without some over complicated combination of Modifiers.

FYI, the Rules FAQ has been updated. The PDFs will be updated as the people who prepare them have the time and interest to do so. If you have any questions/comments, please post 'em in the "Company Questions" thread of the same name.

I am looking for a good supers system and was wondering why all of you have chosen this one. I have played Mutants and Masterminds, Silver Age Sentinels, Marvel Universe (both the new one and the second edition), and Aberrant. I was wondering how this one compares. Thanks for any input you guys can throw my way.

I'm sure this was answered, but how are Multiform characters done in terms of Effectivess Ratings? I understand it's easy enough to do the ER for each form, but what if you want to combine that into an overall player-character ER? I would think it's something like take the most effective form and add some incremental portion (like 1/10 for the first form, 1/20 for the second, etc., , but entirely unsure where that would fall) for each other form, but obviously don't know. EDIT - hmmmm and what about Followers?

I'm converting some of the spells from the Wheel of Time RPG into hero, and I liked the effect they had for lightning. They had it as an area of effect type thing with selective targeting (many lighning bolts). However a) you didn't have to make any additional attack rolls to hit individual targets. If there were any friendlies in the area of effect, they still took a hit, it was just less. Sort of like damage reduction. How would you write this? I was thinking of +1/2 to any standing area of effect, and any friendlies or other non-targets only take 1/4 damage. That's just because standard selective target forces you to make additional attack rolls and costs …

Ok, I am curently playing a mutant with a gravity based power set in out Champions Campaign. While great in combat, I find he tends to take the back seat for most of the session, during investigation and such. During after game discussion, we mentioned how lacking the party is in advanced sences (the characters started at 250 points, and are acting as the major heroic group in the city they are in, but have plans to expand) and I thought this might be a good way to up my combat usefullness. Any sugestions, oh Gurus of Hero? Thank you, Narthon

For sake of argument, lets assume we're using DEFENDER (or IRON MAN if your not up on your Champions heroes) for the example here. Lets say DEFENDER adds a new feature to his POWER SUIT (which is an OIF Focus) that allows his suit to transform from a Flying Energy Projector to a Ground Brick. That would be MULTIFORM. The question is - if you build the BRICK form, do you build it out of points to JUST cover the armor - or does the second form have to include the Character (or the pilot) as well? Make sense? Logically I would assume MULTIFORM would only cover the vehicle - but HERO only talks about it in the sense of a second form - so would you inc…

OK, so I'm trying to model a pair of goggles that give the wearer a "sonar sense" (Active Sonar with 360-Degree Perception). My difficulty is I want the goggles to make the wearer unable to see normally: the inside of the goggles is just a display screen for the sonar. How would I do this? The best idea I've come up with is a Side Effect of Sight Group Flash 1d6 (Standard Effect) so that the wearer is blinded whenever the Power is active. Firstly, does that even make sense? Secondly, is there a better (or another) way of modeling what I want? Thank you in anticipation.

What would be the best way to make the power to block the nerves to a person's hands, making them numb (and hopefully causing them to drop whatever they're holding)?

I was thinking about the temporal powers from the USPD book, and I got to thinking about a neat way to make a classic stepping outside time, so that everything looks like it's stopped? But I'm not sure it would work, so I wanted some ideas on if it's good or not? :-) The idea I had was the dimensional movement power to a single dimension: Outside Normal Time. So, basically the person moves to another dimension that's just outside local time, everything looks 'stopped'. Now, if I bought transdimensional for the character's strength and labled it only to effect her home dimension, and only when she was outside time, could that work? Could she swing an object and …

Palm Software Hero Diceroller?

I am having a hard time making my games flow quickly. Part of the problem is (dont laugh) my players cant count dice quickly. Its like watching special ed kids when they try and figure out how much stun and body they did. Is there a palm OS program that does hero dice rolling, including tabulating body? I would also really like it if the program could be modified to a second function that did 1d6-1 stun, and did 1 body on a 1 through 4, and 2 body on a 5 or 6. The killing attack damage drives me nuts with its randomness, so I settled on this as an alternate damage system for KA's. They do a lot more body than normal attacks, but less stun.

Greetings, all. In trying to create a cyberpunkish character, I wanted him to have guns which had some electronics mounted on them, which, when connected to his internal computer, could display targetting information on a heads-up display (the same effect could be obtained with appropriate goggles for non-chipped users). This is pretty obviously just some combat skill levels, maybe some penalty skill levels for range. I can think of three obvious ways to model this: Skill levels, only usable with smartlinked guns, restrainable/OAF (as appropriate). This is unsatisfying because the gun writeup won't reflect their special nature. Skill levels built into …
