People keep telling me to use a Vpp for this, but it just doesnt make sense to me. Ok, I got my self a little techno geek who builds crap. No literatly, like in his garage with a screw driver and left over stero wires. I call him Jack, the Inventor on Crack. Anyway Jack wants to build some power armor. He wants to be able to rerig it to do everything and for anything imaginable when hes in his garage. But in the field it will have several prebuilt modes to choose from. It will also include a Computer (Maybe A.I.). It will need a built in power plant. I really am having trouble with this. The whole thing together says VPP. But some components in themselves seem li…

I saw how you flinched when someone asked about REC in a multipower slot. How would you react to someone buying 3d6 Succor to REC? In theory this would be a 3 END power that could give up to +9 REC added to the char's current level. An addition of up to 6 End per and 9 stun . Or does paying the END for REC count as an action that would prevent a recovery? The character concept BTW is a shapeshifter with Regen, earth based powers. He doesn't have a real hot REC normally, but after a KIA and wakeup (and one regular recovery to get some End to work with) this would let him huddle up for a couple phases to get his STUN back to combat levels. Why not use Images if you think CE is too munchkin? For 85 active points, you can make an image of the full moon to superimpose over the real moon. For instance: By the Light of the Silvery Moon: Images covering 2,097,152 hexes, Range= 160,015,625"; Only to generate image of Full Moon, -1, Extra Time (1 Turn, -1¼), Gestures, Incantations, Requires a Magic Skill Roll, -½, 1 continuing Charge that lasts until Sunrise, +¼, 85AP, 20 RP This spell will create the image of a Full Moon some 320,000km away that's slightly bigger than the real Moon. It takes 1 full turn to cast and with a -8 to your Magic Roll you might want to have a few followers to cast this spell …

The clarification from the Nov. 3 FAQ: NEW*Q: The rules say that squeezing or throwing a Grabbed character in a Phase after the Phase in which he’s Grabbed “is an Attack Action.†Does this mean it requires an Attack Roll, or that it occurs automatically but the character has to allot time for it as if it were an Attack Action. A: It means that the character has to make an Attack Roll; in later Phases the squeezing/throwing damage doesn’t automatically succeed. Anyone else making new attack rolls in phases after grab? I had always played grab as a sort of continuing STR effect requiring a half phase action, yes, but not a new attack roll. Hmmm.

I'm looking for opinions, and a little knowledge, on building an NPC with a weak heart. He has to take medication for his heart and had to give up super heroing, because his heart can't stand much stress. Knowledge: In reality is heart medication a daily pill or a multiple times per day pill? How hard is it to obtain e.g. Class Whatever Narcotic? This will help me build the Dependence Disad. Opinion: Would you build the unable to withstand stress as a Susceptibility or Vulnerability? I'm leaning towards the former myself, but I'm just curious as to what you think.

Ravenstorm, wing-ed vigilante, has a multipower consisting of various mini-grenades – glue, flash, thermite (you get the idea). If he buys Autofire[3] on each Slot he can now lob 3 of ONE type of mini-grenade per phase (phase one he throws three smoke bombs, phase two three thermite, etc). If he buys the Autofire on the Reserve instead, can he now switch slots with the phase (phase one he throws one smoke bomb, one thermite and one glue)? Rules wise, I think the guy would need to buy Variable Slots but it doesn’t feel right (Why’s the thermite suddenly burning less hot? Why’s the smoke cloud smaller than usual?). Would you guys allow him to mix and match?

Suppose I wanted to create a Sebastian Shaw type character, who got his STUN refreshed every time you punched him... forever and ever, amen. (i.e. -- a character you simply cannot beat down with your fists, but /must/ find a way to indirectly attack). Since I am not the DM, I can't make a house rule to just ignore the Absorption cap. I have the DM's permission to create thie type of character, however... if I can find a way to do it within standard FRED. How can I do this effect on a reasonable point budget?

I am always on the look for good resources and over the years have built a sizable library of both historical and fictional resources for games of most genres. However it is a never ending quest, thus I have two questions... First does anyone have any suggestions, no matter how esotaric or mainstream? If anyone is interested I would provide titles and ISBNs to those that I have found most useful. Second, does anyone know a gaming store (that sells HERO products) in the Santa Barbara area? I plan on being in the area soon.

Got a question about TK in a multipower. Say hero A has a 40 pt Multipower and has TK and four other powers in the multipower. Now in his first phase He uses his at full strength to grab and hold villian #1. On his second phase he is still holding villian #1, can he use his TK or another power in the multipower against another target? My first thought is no, because to me TK is power that requires concentration. However TK also comes across as a constant power meaning if hero A continues to pay the END for the power he can continue to use it and move on to something else.

Follow up question.... Same scenario as last time (TK & multipower thread). Hero A has used his TK to grab and hold villian #1 on his first phase. On hero A's second phase, he uses his TK to squeeze then slam villian #1 into the ground. My question is does villian #1 take damage from both the squeeze & the slam or are these two seperate actions? Hero A can grab & squeeze in his/her first phase, however unless I am misreading the rules hero A must make another attack roll to squeeze villian #1 again on hero A's 2nd phase.

I am designing a punishment meted out by the sun-priests of my world. In essence, here is what happens: Priests specially prepare the victim (ritualistic spell), who must be bound or otherwise unable to escape. The final step involves annointing the victim with an oil or ointment. The result of this ceremony is that the victim is now suscepitble to sunlight. "You shall never see the face of the sun again without knowing the weight of your sins". Depending upon the degree of the offense, the person is let go at some point during the night in an open area, or they are staked out to burn with the rising sun. I am looking for a few options on the spell itself.…

I have an electrically based MA and I wanted to make sure this was a good way to go about the creation of his powers. The question I have concerns one of his sphere's of influence. I wanted to allow him to communicate with computers directly. Possibly manipulating actual info on said systems. This does not include AI's, at least not yet. How would you do it. This communication doesn't need a physical interface, he just has to be near by. This would also possibly include other mundane devices as well. Believe it or not, I thought of this before I saw Revolutions. Thanks in advance.

I have a player who can shapeshift from a non-human form to a human form. The shapeshift affects all five normal senses. Since the non-human form has extra abilities (wings, scaly skin, tail, claws) that are not present in the human form, he should get a limitation on the shapeshift...but how much? Initially I gave him a total of -1 limitations, but reconsidering I don't think he's losing half his abilities shapeshifting. He keeps all his skills, his magic spells, and equipment. Mostly he loses the ability to fly and his innate armor. (This is a Fantasy Hero campaign, so flight and armor and claws are very useful abilities... but are they worth -1 on the Shapeshift?)…

HeroMaker allowed Limitations to be placed on Advantages, and it was an acceptable thing to do among the players I was in contact with during my college days. However, as far as I can tell, Hero Designer does not allow this. Is this against the rules as they exist in 5th edition? I'm also interested in hearing the opinions of others on this matter (as opposed to the "legality").

If I am making a wizard and I am aplying disadvantages to his spells. Can I take both gestures requiring two hands and focus with a wizards staff that he holds in one of the hands? Effectively making gestures with one hand and a staff. -Preston

Here's a complicated one for you... how much is "Only During Segment 12" worth as a Limitation? I'm thinking of giving two "additional" dice of Aid this Limitation in order to cancel out the Post-Segment 12 fading (I want it to fade quickly, just not while it's still building up). -- Pteryx
