Interesting rules question on damage calculation. Referencing the 6E Equipment Guide, Pp. 219-221: Nuclear Weapons and "Effects of Nuclear Weapons". The reference is using a 1MT Nuclear bomb on all the effects of the bomb for different damage and what-not. That said, if I had a 100KT Nuclear Bomb--tactical Nuke, for example--how would the damage be calculated? As per the book, the first effect is a 16-20d6 Drain against BODY, among other advantages. The base is 200AP. If this were a conventional attack, I was at the understanding that every Halving of the energy is a reduction of 1DC. Is this incorre…

For a while I played Mutants and Masterminds fairly regularly before moving on to HERO, which on the whole, I think I like better, due to its greater degrees of customization and differentiation of effects, however there's one thing that I think M&M did a lot better, which I'd like to attempt to port over to HERO, and that's Hero points, and by extension, power-stunts. Hero points and power stunts, in my opinion, did a lot to help give the game a comic-book feel, and even with non-superhero games gave the players the ability to make their characters feel a bit more like Big Damn Heroes. For those unfamiliar with the system, Hero Points in M&M can be used a num…

Rules allow purchasing martial maneuvers for use with TK, with GM permission and Fine Manipulation. Your TK STR is replacing your normal STR, but the HTH rules generally apply...except that, since you can use TK at range, the range mods also apply. So...would you allow a move like this: Sucker Punch (5 points): +1 OCV, +0 DCV, +2 DCs, +2 Range Mod where the character's HTH DCs apply as well? The alternative, of course, would be Penalty Skill Levels with TK+martial maneuver combos; it's likely this would be cheaper if it was gonna apply to multiple maneuvers, whereas the range mod in the maneuver might be cheaper if only a…

I was building a character and had the idea for a power that would be used to disable an opponent's limbs, probably one at a time. How would herodom assembled build such an attack? How would it play out? I'll post some of my thoughts after a bit.

In the Hero Rules section, Clippy Clop asked Now, the answer given was accurate, but did raise a question. The AVAD rules can be bought as a limitation depending on what it is designed like. For example, I commonly build poisons with (drain/KA) AVAD: Life Support vs poison grants immunity. Its an inverse of the usual build, where instead of being an attack that ignores most defenses, it is an attack which has an additional defense, as a limitation (I assign it -½). "All or nothing" is a modifier in AVAD that turns the attack into an NND; it makes the attack deal all its damage unless the target has the specific defense, in which case i…

Looking at the rules for Transform, you can add points to the target by increasing the amount of BODY needed to effect the transformation, which makes sense. I'm having a bit of a problem with the implications of this, though. If I wanted to buff up my friends, what would stop me from taking Major Transform 1d6, Improved Results Group (+1) for 20 points, and then just taking however much time I need to give them whatever combination of powers they desire? Since it's helping them out, they wouldn't necessarily object to spending some time being hit by multiple Transforms if it means 2,000 points or something equally ridiculous at the end of it. Even if you don't come up wi…

Assuming a fairly standard rubber racquetball thrown by hand by someone with 10-15 STR, how many dice of damage and what would be maximum throwing distance?

I'm making a character for a friend who is new to the game. He wants his character to have a power where he swings his sword as he is sent forward a distance, hitting anything in that line. I was wondering if anyone knew how I could make this power as easily as possible for him. Thank y'all!

So, I like my teleporters, what can I say. In this case, the long-range teleport's using a gate. There's various drawbacks to gating in blind; even if you expect the location's safe for teleportation, activity around the area might make the location untenable. The character also has Stretching that doesn't cross the intervening space...an instantaneous micro-gate, if you will. Sooo...what crossed my mind was, what about using Clairsentience, where the power's origin point is a teleportation fixed location? The character has a spatial sense of where that location is, so it seems reasonable that he can use it similarly to precisely place his clairsentience.…

This may seem like a newbie question, but... How is Non-Combat Movement supposed to stack ? When one buys 2x NCM, that's easy, but if one buys it three times does it go 10/20/40 or 2x, 2x, 2x.....or is the stack simply 6x ? I may have been doing this wrong for a LONG time

I'm in a Star Trek campaign using Hero 5e. I want to stat up a version of the hologrammatic doctor from Voyager. (I considered posting this in Star Hero and I'm okay if this needs to be moved.) Thoughts: I'm thinking of a Multipower, yeah, but I want to build him like a character to be played (not an AI as part of a base etc.). I had planned to make all the things that the ship itself "lends" to him as freebies, I think. Like, he wouldn't pay points to be able to send a message through subspace, it would be the ship. (Stuff the vehicle does and he accesses should be free.) PS: No wrong answers here. I'm just looking fo…

Hey Herophiles, I was just wondering has any used what I’m going to term Short Cut Characters? A short cut character is where the author of a boom tells you that if you need a certain character, take a specific existing character ( and this use to be from the Core book) modify him (or her) and violla! You have a new character. For example using Seeker as a Base Character for Samurai in Watchers of the Dragon. I Use to think that this was lame and “cheating”. You should have complete and nee character sheets for everyone! No more. I see how this is a real time saver for the author and GM. I see how this saves precious room in a book. And since this is Champio…

I couldn't find anything about this. The notional case: the mentalist is attempting to find a person. That person could obviously be asleep, drunk, or sedated. Would this affect anything, or given that there are no rules...would you just leave that up to the GM? Someone knocked below 0 STUN has DMCV 0, per 6E2, for starters, but anything else? I'm thinking, for mind scan, everything's just a bit harder. Since 10 is the effects increment, then saying a 10 point adjustment to each level. Greater than EGO (to establish a mind link) --> EGO +10; EGO+20 to use mental powers, EGO+30 to get a complete lock. So, it's a 2 part question...did I mi…

Hello fellow players and game masters! First I want to wish a happy new year in advance Now into what I would like some help : we started a campaign some weeks ago, the master was very willing to help us out with the characters creation, and still is, but I do not wish to ask her help again becasue it would seemed like I've not read the rulebook at all. I did read it, over and over again (and still am), but it seems I underestimate its complexity, and becasue of this delay we haven't actually started playing ( we did some ''preliminaries'' in world building, introductions of the characters, what we're doing, out NCP team mates and so on, but we've yet to ac…

I was looking through the rules and wondering if there was a way to build a normal damage attack that had penetrating effect on the Stun and also the Body it did. Can this be done? Penetrating Body damage seems like it can only be done via a Killing Attack power.

I'm afraid I'm back with some more muddled questions, so a huge thank you in advance to anybody who can help me out! I've got an idea kicking around my head for a villainous organisation patterned on a spider, with the leader being the Head who can grant powers to each of the eight Legs that serve underneath them. While it would be possible to handwave this, I've been having some fun cooking up ways to build the Head's power, and what I've settled on at the moment is a form of VPP with Usable Simultaneously (up to 8 Recipients, +1) as an advantage on the Control Cost, but there are a few problem areas I'm not sure about. Firstly, I can't find anyth…

I know this has been brought up in the past, but I was thinking a bit about gear and equipment and was wondering how Hero GMs handle player's gaining such things? Do they buy them with points? Resource/Equipment points? Do they spend wealth like gold or credit? Can they just use items they find for free?

It occurs to me that in any setting priot to the last 100 years or so, that real world combat injuries often became combat fatalities due to wounds getting infected. Since we already have optional rules for: hit locations, bleeding, injuring and disabling wounds, I'm just wondering if such rules exist for the risk of wounds becoming infected. I don't seem to recall any, but perhaps I was looking in the wrong place for them.

I’ve always loved the Language Table, ever since Champions 1st edition. And the expanded version in “The Ultimate Skill” is even more candy for the soul. The same concept was beautifully illustrated here: https://sssscomic.com/comic.php?page=196 I love the way it shows connections between seemingly disparate languages and cultures. And how knowing a little of one thing can open doors to others. However … … can the idea of overlapping and complimentary knowledge be used with Skills? The Sciences Table in “The Ultimate Skills” does something similar but less elegantly. The Hero system groups skills into broad categories: Agility, Comba…

I've recently bought into HERO, and am having a lot of fun picking apart the books to try and work out how different characters and powers would be built, but I'm having a bit of a sticking point with Extra-Dimensional Movement. The rules explain how to use the power to travel between dimensions, but I can't find any examples of what dimensions should look like, and if you were to have a character with a personal dimension, I wouldn't know what limits to set on that dimensions characteristics. If it helps, here are some ideas I've been unable to decide on (assume that this is from the GM's perspective, so there's no issue of permission to be resolved): 1. Can …

This concept seems reasonable to me, but I've not seen it anywhere -- and I don't know why. Here goes... We've got two different power constructs I'm looking at: The character can act as a "conduit" between a power source and a device needing power. The ultimate universal converter -- they can connect to wall current, or a battery, or a turbine, and use it to power something (like a laptop, or a 40w phased plasma rifle -- without needing a physical connection between the two things. They might need to touch one or the other, or possibly both, but that would be fiddly Limitations TBD later; the point would be the base concept here. Related to this, …

I've looked through the forums for an answer but not found it. Here's the question: "How do I make it harder (PER penalties) to "scry" a character and/or an area?" Based on writeups I've seen here, Darkness to Clairsentience is popular. But I don't want to blackout the character/area to Clairsentience (and is that even legal?), I want a penalty to PER rolls to sense a character/area provided the Special Effect of that sensing is "scrying". Granted, most of the time that would be using Clairsentience, but it might also be Mind Scan, or something else I haven't considered. Thoughts?

Will there ever be an SRD (System Requirement Documents that is freely shared) for the HERO System to make it easier to recruit new players? I am trying to build a HERO System community on RPGCrossing.com but it is hard because there is no SRD while the other popular systems all of an SRD.

Greetings, i played the original Champions edition as a kid. I want to start up a campaign again and after some research, decided to go with 5th edition. I bought the fifth edition rules from the hero website and other supplements. I thought it would explain all the thorough character building rules. However, it seems to be only a highlight of character building options. I am disappointed and did not expect that. I thought it would give me the full set of options. I wish the rules hadn’t assumed you were moving up from a previous edition. I’m starting from scratch here. The rules said: “Champions is different primarily because it’s such a wide-rang…
