The Article At 13th Dimension Saw this on Facebook and thought I'd pass it along. Champions does get a mention here, albeit not a particularly favorable one. But there are some seriously old-school games noted here.

The School Buzz Saw this on Facebook and thought I'd pass this along. After all the grief we RPGers went through in the Eighties, it's always good to see stuff like this.

I dont usually so PDF reading, sure; I am glad I have them, and in cases like T5, where I haven't been able to find affordable paper copies. It isnt even an aesthetics thing (though it kind of is that as well). The fact is that, even though it is part of my job and hanging out here, stafing at a screen is actively unpleasant for me. It isnt too far removed from staring into a 15 watt light bulb for hours on end. Unpleasant. I am not going to type out all my thoughts on T5- so far I have more than I ever want to type (which is saying something, I think), and I am exactly 54 pages into this 656 pqge book. I did want to take a moment to share my …

I have a player in my Hero 6E campaign who has changed the character already once in the game prior to starting. We have played six sessions, which is maybe 1/4 or 1/5 of the way through the campaign. The player now wants to play a digressively different character, because he said it would be more fun. Would any of you allow this? As a GM, I am highly frustrated at this attitude period I believe it is showing a great disrespect for the effort that I’ve made to not only create this game, but I actually work with the players to create a backstory which will fit into the game and allow me to write their stories into the campaign material.…

I wonder if I fired the proverbial "golden BB" (shooters of LBX-10s in Battletech will understand the term) at a longtime friendship. The shorter version: there's someone I've known since second or third grade. Recently I invited him to join our D&D group. The short version: it did not go well. The longer version (and apologies in advance, there's a good bit to the story): I invited this friend of mine to join our bi-weekly D&D group. Let's call him "new guy" or NG for short. NG's other gaming group had started puttering out by that point. Also, I knew that NG had some real-life issues that were hitting him kinda hard. I thought that enjoying some…

What rule books have special rules in the social section that require players to think more than simply chat and throw dice? I think most rule books only distinguish between types of social skills, such as persuasion, charm, intimidation, and deception, but there are also rules that have good design, such as the Intimacies rule in Exalted 3e Too many rule books focus on improving the combat system, and many times I feel the need for detailed social rules to obtain advice and assistance.

Nope; this is not apropos of anything; it has nothing to do with anything we arw currently discussing (as far as I know: I tend to avoid the political thread and the news thread as if they contained a horribly mixture of syphilis and leprosy, so feel free to do le check me) I have heard so many opinions on exploding dice over the years-- even before Savage Worlds. I cant remember which ones, but it is little more than a board or smdice game mechanic applied to RPGs- well, at least one as part of the core rules; others as house rules. I have even played Exploding Dice in DnD- had a DM that, if you rolled a damage die at max, then you rolled it again and added…

I'm resurrecting this as a general reminder that this is still available: Back in the day, there was a site called Hero Central. I've been experimenting with local file restores of certain campaigns on the site. In short, if someone wants to read a campaign they were in, I can pass them zips of specific campaigns from Hero Central. They require are offline files, they are JavaScript (so a reasonable browser and computer, not a phone), and at this point I'm trying to keep the list I give out small. That being said, if you kno…

Hi all! I recently started playing a game at which I rolled an ability that grants me intangibility, able to move through walls/ground etc, was thinking of names that are too generic, like "smoke" as my form changes from human to a shadow state. Any suggestions?

I just tried ChatGPT, the new AI chat bot, and for fun I gave it the following command for its first task. Write a rules compliant encounter for 5th edition dungeons and dragons. Here's what it came back with, very quickly. Sure! Here is a sample encounter for a group of five 3rd-level characters: Encounter Name: "Goblin Ambush" Location: A narrow mountain pass Encounter Level: 3 (840 XP) Description: As the party makes their way through a narrow mountain pass, they hear the sound of movement up ahead. Suddenly, a group of goblins emerge from hiding and attack the party, trying to steal their supplies and valuables. …

The LA Times gathered up a ton of demographic and economic data, and broke it down all the way to neighborhoods or sometimes smaller cities, in the LA metro area. It's a wonderful resource: https://maps.latimes.com/neighborhoods/index.html For example, for a character concept I'm fleshing out...I wanted a fairly high income, but also very diverse neighborhood. Hmm...flip round...yeah...South Pasadena will work. Good combination of very diverse (white, Asian, Latino anyway) and high income. It is only LA, but it's a wonderful resource if you're ok with that being where the character grew up. Most neighborhood guides don't go into a…

I’m curious about something and wanted to throw it out for discussion. For character portraits, do you prefer using an actual picture or a drawing?
