    Madison, WI

I'm looking to start up a super hero game using the Hero system in the Madison, Wisconsion area. I will be GMing, but I would love it if someone out there would be willing to take the reigns of my group and GM once in a while too.

I am a relative newcomer to 5th edition, but I've played 4th edition for many years. If you're interested, let me know!

    Haven't finalized that yet

Well right now I'm not sure. I will be introducing the system to a couple of friends this coming weekend- I'm hoping they'll show some interest. After I speak with them, I think I'd probably need a good month to prepare for our first game, so figure middle of April.

After the first game, we'd probably play once every 4 weeks or so.

    MIght be a possibility

My girlfriend lives in FItchburg so I am in the Madison area often enough, as a matter of fact I picked up my FREd at Pegasus Games near West Town. I'm in the process of digesting some of the rule changes and migrating my Hero system techno-fantansy campaign to that. Its nice to know I'm not the only one in Dairyland here.

Actually that's this Saturday, so I don't know yet. I have high hopes though! I bought Hero Designer to make character creation less intimdating for them.

    That should help...

Designer does take the pain out of getting newbies into the game but I have some players who would have a real hard time GMing. Hopefully they'll like the idea of rolling a whole fistful of d6 for damage. If my kid didn't have swimming lessons I might ask to join.

    Blech

Not so good, not so bad. They basically were pretty intimidated by the system, but they were at least interested. They want me to whip up some common superheroes and then let them play them in a little session so they can get the feeling of things.

Personally, I don't know how well it's going to turn out. It took a good 4 sessions of Champions before I was comfortable with the system. I have a feeling they're going to try it out, get freaked at the depth of the system, then quit.

Still, I'm hoping they'll see just how fun it can be.

    Focus on the fun

GMIng a new group in Hero can be a bit of a challenge but focus more on plot and role playing and not so much on Power Limitations and Advantages, you probably will have at least one game mechanic in the group who will want to read all the rules and learn them. I learned to play way back when the first edition of Champions came out and I was the first of the group to go buy it but others were content to ask the GM for tips etc. What kind of characters do you have in your group? Maybe some prefabs might be appropriate at first or have them give you a concept of what they want to play and then make a character sheet for them. I'd be happy to help if you need some assistance making characters.

    Nah, I'm good

Thanks for the help, but I already made their prefab characters tonight, Colossus, Spiderman and the Human Torch. 3 totally different types of characters so that they get an idea of just how different heroes can be in Hero.

I plan to really capitalize on the role playing potential of Champions and to make Combat fun, letting they try to do odd-ball things (cause I know they'll want to try). I'm pretty sure at least one of them will want to play, and then I'd have 3 players which would be enough. I would prefer 4, but, I'll take what I can get.
