Yes there are people in Portland. But unfortunately, my champions game got run over by D&D 3rd Ed. Seems the party couldn't agree on just what sort of champions they wanted to play.
It started fine, then someone said, "Hey, can I have/play a starship?" Just when it looked like we were going to have "Supowered Andromeda", someone else suggested a new D&D game. Being as most of the people are diehard d20, out went champions.
I'm hoping that our brief stint gave them a good taste and they'll come back later.
Two FLGS's I would recommend are Bridgetown Hobbies on 33rd and Sandy (accessable by bus) and the WOTC store in Clackamas Town Center (farther away but still accessable by bus). Both have places you can post looking for games I believe.
Don't give up hope, there are games in Portland.
