    A call for Canadians

Okay, as most of you know, I am working on a project to design 100 heroes as part of an INTERNATIONAL team

Two of the Nine Earth based teams is located on North America, based on population I figure Canada should have one, maybe two heroes on the team, I figure the New York team is the better place for them (the other team is located in California), so which of these characters should be reworked as a canadian?

Grey Mask: A 1940's Mystery Man with powers similar to "The Shadow", a two fisted Mentalist with a invisibility trick

HAVOK: A battlesuit character working for the goverment

Fury: Half Woman/Half Lizard experiment gone arie

Colossus: Henry Pym? Who's that? I'm just a scientist who can grow or shink because of some astroid that landed near my camp site

Cheetah, Speedster, doctor, designed a device to save a patients life, a sadistic mob boss desided to see what would happen if he forced the doctor to have it installed instead of the patient

Guardian: Okay he has certain spells that give him brick powers

T-Mancer: A mage specilising in Urban Magic

Of the choices you present, I think that two are most appropriate as presented. "Guardian" is a natural name for a Canadian hero, since the Canadian national anthem urges us to "stand on guard" for the country. "Grey Mask" sounds similar to an aboriginal Canadian name, and native shamanic magics could be the basis for the hero's mental powers. In fact, the Haida culture of the west coast makes use of elaborately carved and painted ceremonial masks, and the hero could gain powers from such a mask.

"Fury" would be more appropriate if the hybrid was based on some other animal, since lizards and reptiles are less a feature of the wildlife here than in warmer climates. In a similar vein, you might consider naming the growing scientist "Redwood", after the giant tree that's native to British Columbia as to the northwestern United States.

    Ones I can see;

Guardian: as has been said it is part of our National Anthem.

T-mancer: Make him from Toronto or Montreal. Would break the mystic stereotype from the wilds idea.

Cheetah: Change the name to Falcon or Gyrfalcon (a white breed of falcon that lives in the north) and make speed powers with flight.

Guardian, Cheetah, Havoc, and Colossus are all names of very prominent published comic book supers. It's not a copyright thing - all four names are in enough of a common usage that it'd be hard to commercially brand them - but PCs and NPCs should go after their own identities whenever possible and as such, I wouldn't use them.

I'd go wth Grey Mask, if only because it suggests some of the pulp comics of Canada's Golden Age past. And if using the 5th edition Champions Universe setting, it might make a good contrast to the Black Mask.

    non Alpha Flight

Some of the names and powers are too reminiscent to me of Marvel's Alpha Flight. Guardian particularly. So I went with Colossus.

T-Mancer is a girl (just thought I would throw that in)

Gryfalcon is interesting, toying with the ideas now...

Guardian does seem to be the leader of the pack, but I had not realised howmuch of this teams names have been ripped off of other sources...

As far as my notions of Canadiana, I agree that a lizard doesn't fit. About the only reptiles I think of as being local fauna are the harmless garters and the odd poisonous snake, and the southern States and Australia have us beat in terms of venomous varmints.

A battlesuited guy is reasonable, with government sponsorship sounding plausible (well, comic-book plausible; we fly 40 year old military helicopters which occasionally crash into the decks of our 'state of the art' 30 year old destroyers).

I like the technomancer idea, too. Almost all Canadian heroes and villains seem to draw on images of shamanism/Native Canadians, wildlife and forest. While Canada has a lot more land mass which is sparsely populated, it might be nice to reflect some of the genuine Canadian high tech, like the neutrino observatory in Sudbury or the various high tech centres in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, or Halifax.

A mystery man sounds interesting and suitable. Like the US in the Golden Age, Canada had a war effort and a heterogenous cultural mix politically and culturally.

Again, I'd say you should lean towards protective and defensive names. Havok isn't your typical Canadian-style name, but Guardian, Peacemaker, Sentinel, Shield, etc. are. maybe replace Guardian with Glen Sprigg's Canadian Shield (his spells make him a granite-skinned brick).

Maybe make Havok into Protector, and replace blasts with forcewall projection powers.

    Cool Guardian eh

Of the options presented and the opinoins presented . I have to agree with the majority . With reguards to origins of powers and playgerizing . These are Canadiana inventions , yes . The Canadian Super Hero Icon like the Canadian identity is hard to label . I look forward to your final decision ( whatever that may be ) with curiosity and anticipation .

The ultimate Canadian super villian ... The LIBERAL ( or PRIME MINISTER ) muuhawhahaha !!!

    The Mumbler

Prone to malapropisms and mispronunciations, the Mumbler's high PRE and scads of Interaction skills keep him at the popular forefront and in the public eye. Many consider him too old to continue his career, but he's just too 'poopulahr' to retire (and he wants to save the world just once before retiring, so he can point to a 'legacy').

Generally, the Mumbler's tactics involve engaging an enemy in conversation, where his voice acts like a hypnotic BOECV Entangle. Thanks to his genuinely shoddy and slippery use of English and French, the Mumbler is able to affect virtually any target. Physically, the Mumbler doesn't look capable of handling supervillains, but has on occasion engaged in fisticuffs and the notorious 'Shawinigan handshake' to pacify offenders.

The Mumbler's career has been long and notorious, beginning as he did as one of 'The Three Wise Men', then appearing as sidekick to Captain Canada (tagline 'Just watch me'), and eventually rising to solo hero status. He recently replaced his long-time sidekick Blue Martin with Manly Man, siggesting a falling out between the two former partners.
