When using Flight (only along surfaces -1/2), can you stop in place on a vertical or overhanging surface, or does this require clinging?

If you stop in place you would be hovering. So yes you can. It costs 1" of flight to hover and this is considered a free action. Remember that even though the special effect makes you look like you are standing on the wall, you still count as being in flight for all other purposes (knockback, etc.).Originally posted by Kolava

EDIT: Oh yeah. Unless you have bought your Wall Running flight with 0 END cost, hovering will cost 1 END per Phase.

Still playing/running 5ER in Oklahoma City.
Edsel has said good things.
If the special effect is that he runs so fast he can run up or along walls you might consider giving your character's flight the Vehicle Limitation of Stall Velocity as well. You can check it out on 5E 316, if your GM would allow it. Or easier still, call it: No Hovering (-1/4). This would cause the character to fall if they slow up too much or stop while "off the ground." But it all depends on the special effects you have in mind.![]()
I was basically aiming for the wuxia convention (this will be combined with superleaping and lots of MA). Thank you.
You may consider in this case Cling @ STR (10 points), only while running (-1/2), Perching only (-1/4)

Since flight has a turn mode (one hex face=60 degrees) and walls are verticle wouldn't you need to buy off the turn mode to avoid crashing into buildings. Yes, you could half move to a wall and then half move straight up (remembering to cut your movement in half for going up), but if you were using a half move to get to the wall and then go up that seems to be more mobility than the power permits. Why can you turn 90 degrees up when you can't left or right?
I think it's a mostly a matter of considering how the effect is described for a character. The first thing that pops into my mind when seeing
Is that the character is a super speedster type character a la Flash. In that case I'd waive the turn limits but also disallow any picnics on the sides of buildings. On the other hand if the hero bent gravity to walk on the side of buildings standing around would make sense. When using Flight (only along surfaces -1/2), can you stop in place on a vertical or overhanging surface, or does this require clinging?
There's a No Turn Mode (+1/4) Advantage given for flight in Hero Designer v2.2. I suppose that could be required by the stricter GM regarding the 90 degree turn to head up a building.
Nothing says you have to run straight at a wall to run up it. In fact, in most Wuxia films, the character approach the wall as a sharp angle before running up along it. Of course, in most wuxia films, nobody stops along the wall.

Thank you for the input. Now, what are your thoughts on the wuxia tradition of running on surfaces that cannot support your weight? Does the power, as written, cover this pretty well? (can I fight at the very top of a bamboo stalk while only slightly bending it?)
Flight, Only On Surfaces covers top-of-bamboo-pole-fighting and heads-of-crowd-running equally well.
"You've got red on you."
In fact, Ninja Hero specifically covers this, using that construct.Originally Posted by devlin1
