Fatal Application Error with the 2.30 patch...HELP!

Sorry if this has been asked before. I have just installed the 2.30 patch and can no longer open Hero Designer. I receive the following error message

    Fatal Application Error

Invocation of this Java Application has caused an invocation of target exception error.

What do i do?.......Please keep it simple

    Thanks

Offhand, sounds like you have either:

    a) a bad download (pull the jar file down again)

    or

    b) saved the update.jar file as "HeroDesigner.jar", replacing the existing file.

If (b) is the case, you need to reinstall, as you overwrote the main application file.

Thanks for the quick reply Simon. I have tried the patch again (same result) then reinstalled Hero Designer (which worked fine after installing) installed 2.30 and then gor the same error??? Not sure what to do next.

You may have the download cached. Particularly if it seems to come down in a flash when you go to re-download the update.

Clear your browser's cache and try again.

The update process is very simple.....there's only a couple of things that can go wrong (listed above, for the most part).

    Simon

I have cleared my Cache and reinstalled the 2.30 patch with no luck. Have uninstalled and reinstalled HD v2. Again it worked fine till i updated it. I saved the patch correctly and moved it to my HD folder replacing the old patch. Again i got the same error upon tring to open HD. I have installed all the updates over the months with no problems but now??? I have no idea what the problem is

    thnx

Try using a different browser to download. One way or the other, I think that you still have the download cached.

The update works fine (as evidenced by the lack of other folks having an issue with it), which kinda limits the issues that you can be having.

You are either saving over (or otherwise altering) your main HeroDesigner.jar file or you are pulling down a bad copy of the update.

If possible, it would help if you could post the details of the error message that you're getting (the error dialog should have a "details" button on it).

Is that all the information that it contains? There should be a fair bit more after that.

Save a copy of the file "appPrefs.xml" and then delete the file from your install directory. Restart HD.

What does it say inside of the details box (when you expand it by clicking on the button). All of the text.

Post a copy of the appPrefs.xml file that you saved (befoer you deleted it).

I'll likely have you post other files after I get that one, so that I can try to track down where the error occurred.
