Okay, they might have nailed me with the Song of Ice and Fire one.
Never was too impressed with what I heard of the Authority. Not my style. (No offense to those who love it)
The Authority is a love it or hate it concept, to be sure. On the other hand, the same universe also has Planetary, and that's a very different and very interesting read. That's one of the main things I'll look for from a WildStorm Universe RPG.
Thanks Tom.
Sadly I can barely stay in touch with Marvel titles (And i was a Marvel Zombie in my youth) right now, but I'll keep an eye out for it. What little I've seen of the Authority didn't impress, but maybe it was just the few I looked at. They seemed to be, well, jerks (I'd use other words, but I try not to cuss on public boards). I like to be able to like my heroes.
I clipped this out of the article, because I don't think Jim Lee really has analyzed this.
"As a long time fan and gamer, I'm personally thrilled and anxiously looking forward to an Authority/StormWatch RPG game," said Jim Lee, Editorial Director -- WildStorm. "Given these books' hard hitting, edgy approach to characters and plotlines, I'm sure this RPG will be unlike any other and open the door for gamers to direct and experience their own all-new, over the top adventures."
Let's face it, stories like this work good in fiction, where the author has complete control over their characters, but never-ever work well in an RPG game. Not to mention, over the top every week gets old real quick which may explain why the Authority pretty much stalled out. Characterization in these book usually is just this side of nil, which is one of the reasons most of us play RPG's (other than the pure Combat Monsters).
Take the stor where the Earth started trying to kill all the humans. It would have made a crappy RPG session. The first part would have been everybody running around and saving people and then the second part involved stalling until the hour ran out on the old Doctor's loaned powers so that they could kill a weak normal. That would be pretty unsatifying at the gaming table.

HA!
I, for one, will most definitely be getting 'A Song of Ice and Fire'
Love the series, and was going to be using a similar setting to run Fantasy HERO (when it arrives), so this will take a HUGE burden of preparation off of my shoulders.

You know its funny, couldn't have been three weeks ago someone I know was chatting about how Fire & Ice would make a good RPG world because of its generally lower power scale and grittier tone: you don't have quite the "the character can do this, because I *want* the character to do this" problem RPGs have with many other liscensed products.

I wonder if it is going to be Tri-Stat or D20 (maybe both).

Fantasy Football is Dungeons & Dragons for guys that use to beat up people who played Dungeons & Dragons.
Apparently, they will release two books initially, one being TriStat and one d20. Releases after this will be dual-statted.
