    The Lich Lordswas fantastic!

My DM streched the module into a 2-3 year campaign. Sadly, many of us did perish. I lost a PC that I had played for nearly 5 years (Archer-Ranger 12th level). SOme of died in fairly legendary fashion - my DM was sadistic.

Most of the classic and best modules and can be downloaded here: http://www.svgames.com/downloads.html

I use it to look for Fantasy Hero stuff all the time. But being D&D not a lot of it is useful.
...and that's when the destruction began.

I have Tomb and Return to Tomb. Terrible adventure, like so many of the early ones were, but somehow charming for all it's crudity and mind-numbing antagonism.

The best thing about the Tomb IMO was the illustration pack that depicted various scenes throughout the adventure. As far as I know Tomb was the first to have this, and it's a very cool element.

I would never run Tomb of Horrors however, as it's really just a collection of arbitrary death traps.

Tomb of Horrors is a great module to convert to hero, simply because it is easy to do so. You don't really have to convert ANY monsters, heck, you can replace the Demi Lich with anything you want.

The rest of it is just converting traps, and falling damage.

Played as a Superhero module rather than a fantasy module would also give the characters a better chance of survival.

I went ahead and bought the download version of "Return to the TOmb of Horrors". Normally I don't buy those web PDF things because I think the pricing is WAY off on most of them (like the TSR stuff, which is all the same price, regardless if it is a 32 page product or a 400 page product), but the "Return" is a HUGE product, so I spent the $4.

I have both Tomb, and Return to Tomb. I'm willing to sell at a fair price, if anyone is interested.

The way to deal with these killer dungeons IME is to use Summons ruthlessly. Let the orcs and goblins that you summon explore all the rooms, trigger the traps, and take the losses. Rest and recharge your spells often, you want to be near full spells for the big fights.

Thats how Lord Robilar did it supposedly. Except he didnt summon them, he enslaved real orcs instead.

    Great minds think alike.

Of course the summons strategy works great with elementals, or even animals with polymorph other cast on them.

Re: Anyone have Tomb of Horrors?

For fans of Tomb of Horrors.. I suggest a readthrough of Necropolis. It was an egyptian themed module having to stop a mummy from achieving apotheosis. However virtually everything the characters did brought it closer, especially if they played in a normal "kill, loot" kind of mode, and the clues were set ups to help him
Gary wrote it for Dangerous Journeys, and it was converted to D&D 3e (D20) and published as a hardcover megamodule. I have both versions.

I used to have the Dangerous Journeys rulebook, and have recently decided to go ahead and collect the series, since it is pretty cheap.

But, my question is. Did anyone, ever, at any time play that game outside of Gary Gygax's personal little gaming group. The reason I ask is that the game is a work of art, more so then hero is in a way, but it seemed to be too complex for actual humans to play.

I never met anyone who claimed to have played it.

That's it. From now my life's mission, or atleast a short term diversion, is to actually play Dangerous Journeys. I will get good enough to GM it, I will learns the overly complex rules, and I will waste a good portion of my time and my life that I will never get back in the fruitless pursual of mastery of the rules. Thinking about the pathetic state my life has fallen into over the last year and a half or so, I really have nothing better to do.

I did for about 6 months. Then I went insane and killed it's spell system and combat system (I liked the character creation system) and merged them with Spell law and arms law. That lasted about 6 months too, before I can to my senses and went back to HERO.

The harder stuff to find is the Journeys magazine. It ran 6 or 8 issues I think (I'd have to go dig them up to see how many). There are some nice things there.. a really good skill relation chart.
