Hurm...only 3 days left, and only 2 entries. Let me ask the boards a question. In part, this is to Myrlyn, Magmaraock, Blue and whoever else might consider hopping on board.
If I entended this for an additional week, would you enter? I know Blue has reservations, but hey, right now you are guaranteed something for your efforts.
Seriously guys, I have high hopes for this contest as an occasional thing, so don't be intimidated by the two entries so far. We all already KNOW how good Bill and Redmenace are, and this really is more for fun. Like Bill said, my main goal is get the creative energies flowing and to pass along ideas amongst our little community.
Anyway, let me know if one more week might tempt some into hopping on board.

Hiya Proditor!
In my case I've just been swamped lately. I've been saddled with a nasty project at work for the past several weeks. I had hoped to have things cleared up enough to work on my entry more, but things keep getting in the way. Last night for example, I was at work until 1AM, when I had planned to be home working on my entry by 6PM. I'm not sure its fair to RM and Bill and others who will finish their projects on time if I, and others, are given more time and the folks that worked hard ahead of time to finish aren't given the same.
Perhaps we could eleminate the single entry requirement as well if you extend the time, giving Bill and RM mroe chances to win for their efforts? After all, the real goal (besides the recognition from your peers) is to get some great Champions mods and conversions posted as examples to others, right?
If you extend the contest, I should definitely be able to finish my entry. As it stands, I'm hoping I might still get it done, but it isn't looking good (I may be here late again tonight). Let me know what folks think. I'd still love to enter, and even if I can't finish in time, I'm still going to finish my entry at some point and will post it whenever it is done for others to comment on.

If it allows more people to enter, I say extend the deadline.
And I echo what Prod said: please don't be intimidated out of entering. I for one (and I'm sure RM and Prod, too) always love to see other folks' figs -- and I always feel like I learn something from looking at others' stuff, too.
Bill.
Oh, in my case it wouldn't be about winning anything, it would be about trying to come up with something cool. I've actually got little knowledge on the subject of modifying minis and at the moment, very little in the way of raw materials or, for that matter, a CU character I'm dying to recreate.
Also kind of a busy week. But after my visit to the game store this evening, who knows.
I'll echo Bill's comments and say that any extension is fine by me and that seeing the figs people come up with is the real payoff as far as I'm concerned.
Regarding Blue's comments, maybe we should write up a FAQs for basic modding and submit it to Digital Hero or HCRealms, assuming they don't have one allready.
PS Proditor, I just checked out the Cloak and Dagger figures from the new Heroclix set on HCrealms, Man your's blow thw doors off of them.
If you are looking for some creative ideas to get the juices flowing Blue, just check out the various "recipies" that RM, Bill, Prod, and I threw together for some figure mods in the "Calling all figure modders and painters, Champions Challenge" thread Proditor started a little while ago.
I don't think any of us would mind if someone took one of our recipes and actually made a figure from it so we could see how it came out... especially some of the recipies I posted, as they are purely theoretical (unlike Bill, RM and Proditor who have actually made figures from theirs).
Here's the link to get the recipies: Thread - Calling all figure modders and painters, Champions Challenge!
Hope this helps!
Keith
P.S. I still think we need to start a dB driven site/page/application that takes all of these various recipies and pics of the mods and allows folks to browse for ideas and concepts for their Champions figures. Ideally such an app would also allow people to post new recipies for figures, and perhaps even rate the submitted recipies. Then we can reference all of these great ideas quickly and easily.![]()

I stol...borrowed my concept for Monster from RM, and then added a few touches of my own.
Bill.
(Thanx for the idea, Red!)![]()
My pleasure, but I don't deserve the credit. As you know, it can be quite a ways between the concept and the final execution.
Okay, business first: Extension approved.
The new new deadline for this magilly will be Sunday, November 14th, Noon EST (5 pm/1700 hours GMT).
Other business: Redmenace, Myrlyn and Bill_Keyes, if you guys want to sit down and start hashing out a "How to modify figures" for Digital hero, I'd be all for that. Bill did a fantastic job in his articles, but I can see how questions can arise when you are doing something that doesn't fit the formula.
Personal business: Redmenace RE:Cloak and Dagger. Heh. You made me blush. Thanks, I was pretty darn proud of those two.

If we were to do an article I'd like to see the following:
A link to said previous Digital Hero article as it covers so many basics well.
A brief guide to Heroclix, Superfigs and other sources as doner figures
mention of how to strip paint off of a fig
mention of basic modifying tools such as needle files, toenail clippers and how to use them
then a walk through of a simple conversion
I'd be more than happy to write a new article (for DH or just to post on the boards) about modding... though most of the points that RM mentions are already covered in the two articles I already wrote.
But we could certainly do more detail on all those points, and cover the things that I didn't. I briefly talked with Digital Dave Mattingly about a semi-regular feature in DH (sorta like "You Gotta Have Character," except less frequent -- every other or every third issue, maybe) that talked about the various ways to use mins, modify mins, build/find simple terrain, etc. If y'all think there's interest, I can broach the subject with him again...?
Bill.
I'd like to see it and while DH doesn't seem to be lacking for material what magazine doesn't like to have articles on hand, maybe for the busy Con season?
As to the list of "What I'd like to see," I wasn't thinking of a DH article specifically but about a webpage or something. That would mean restating a number of your article's points so as to put them all in one place. For a Digital hero article, a link or mention would work just fine.
What are you thinking about for your article, a general piece or a walk through of a specific mod?
As a side note, the original article/s are really well done and thorough, the paint advice has been a great help.

[EDIT]You gotta start somewhere, right? Well, Keep in mind this is my first one. I took a photo and now I can see spots that need touched up further. But here's my attempt at Ogre roughly based on the pic in CKC.
Body is Collosus; I clipped off some of the shoulder portion of the suit and tried to use green-stuff to fill in the armor pattern, with only mixed success. And where I blew that, I tried to mask errors with the paint job. The head is from some cheesy metal miniature I had laying around that was thrown in free with a set of zombies I bought long ago. (I think it was supposed to be a ghoul or something, though it never looked like one.)
In the second pic you can see too much of the banding where collossus' armor was.
Hopefully I come up with a better concept for attempt #2.

I've been stuck on what figure would make a good Ogre for awhile. I'd say this was a pretty good choice.
Filling in grooves is annoying indeed, when I did this to the crags on the Thing clix I painted it with several layers of gloss medium. It takes a while but it worked well in the end.
Nice to have you on board Blue.
