    Global Guardians PBEM Campaign Openings

The Global Guardians campaign is becoming three separate campaigns. We've got openings to fill.

Campaign information can be found here.

Campaign 1 (GM: Brad Becerra): To fill three slots, Brad is looking for an Energy Blaster, a Mentalist, and either a Martial Artist or a Weapon Master. He has no other character requirements other than the base requirements for the campaign.

Campaign 2 (GM: Jack Butler): To fill two slots, I need an energy blaster (fire and magnetism/electromagnetic preferred), and a brick (mythological-based bricks with supplementary powers that fit the myth preferred; you do not have to use Greek, Roman, or Norse mythology as long as you can provide a cite if I am unfamiliar with the myths in question). I would prefer that these slots go to players who have been involved in the Guardians PBEM Universe for two years or less. I have no other character requirements other than the base requirements for the campaign.

Campaign 3 (GM: John Scalera): To fill three slots, John is looking for a Brick, a either a Mentalist or a Mystic. Flying characters would be preferred. He has no other character requirements other than the base requirements for the campaign.

Players are only allowed to submit characters to a single campaign. Thus, if you send something to Brad, you cannot likewise send something to me and John. We will be passing the submitted characters back and forth, so please abide by this rule. Include which campaign you are submitting to with your submission.

All characters should be submitted in the standard Microsoft Word, basic text, or Hero Designer formats, with the player's name, email address, and a note indicating to which campaign the character is being submitted. Please include both background and final character sheet.

Characters submitted to Campaign One should be sent directly to Brad Becerra

Characters submitted to Campaign Two should be sent directly to
    Jack Butler

Characters submitted to Campaign Three should be sent directly to John Scalera

Please feel free to contact us either privately or over the Questions List (preferred) if you have questions.

The submissions deadline is Friday, October 8 2004 at 3 AM US Eastern Standard Time (Midnight, US Pacific Standard Time).

Oddhat, I know you deleted the question, but I'm going to answer it anyway:

The characters are built on a 350 point base, plus 150 points of disadvantages.

The exclusivity of the 90 point power is per team, not overall. For example, Aurora (on Team 2) has a 90 point Energy Blast. If you are submitting to Teams 1 or 3, you can have a 90 point Energy Blast, but not if you are submitting to Team 2.

Thanks. I checked the link and found the info.

    Looks interesting.

Be sure you read all of the posting requirements and house rules before you spend any time working on a character.

Any second now he's going to trot out the "Bad Gamemasters are the ones that have standards they expect their players to live up to; Good Gamemasters let their players do whatever the hell they want regardless of what the Gamemaster wants" nonsense.

Or maybe the "Gamemasters exist to let the players have fun; the players are under no obligation to make things fun for the gamemaster". That's another of bblackmoor's rants.

I don't know, those guidelines don't look bad to me.

The guidelines are fine. GG wouldn't have so many players for so long if people didn't enjoy it.

Yeah, I'm probably overreacting to his attitude. Or his website. If you click on "his" PBEM FAQ (which for the most part he plagiarized from me) link, under "How can I recognize bad GMs, and avoid them?", he includes a direct quote from me. Unattributed, of course, but its my words.

The implication being that I am the perfect example of a Bad GM.

Lots of people vote Republican, too. And Democrat.

But that's beside the point. For this game in particular, the requirements are quite detailed and extensive, moreso than one might reasonably expect, and you won't know if the game's requirements are acceptable to you unless you read them first.

"Moreso than one might reasonably respect"?

    By whose definition?

Yup, I've found no issues in the process - and audits seem to be reasonably timed, too, in the past apparently it took longer, but now it seems okay.

My last comments weren't in regard to the specific campaigns, although I would think (?) one would expect very specific game-requirements. The overall gaming house rules and setting seem pretty reasonable to me. Obviously YMMV, IMHO, etc., but that's been my take.

It's not for all, but that's why there's screening of sorts.

Well, it's good advice for someone to read up on all the requirements. That he's got them all laid out is great. Better than being bit on your ass later on.

Just a small point to make, not that I am takin sides in this... but he said "expect" not "respect".

If he comes from a gaming environment that places little or no control over what type of character a player makes, then to walk into the world of Global Guardians, with controls that are significant, might in fact be more then one would expect.

I like your guidelines, Jack... but I can almost guarantee that some of the folks I have gamed with offline recently would balk at them. It is all a matter of how the player in question was brought up I think.

I like that turn of phrase, "...how the player in question was brought up...". An interesting point, and many of us have very different expectations.
