So, preliminary to the inevitable poll, who do you think is the most unstoppable badass fighter in manga?

Is it Kenshiro (Hokuto no Ken), master of the decapitating autofire martial arts?

Is it Goku (DBZ), super saiyajin and all that?

Is it Gally/Alita (Gunm/Battle Angel Alita) Cyborg master of Panzer Kunst?

Is it KotatsuNeko (Urusei Yatsura) Huge ghost cat with incredible strength?

Is it Saotome Ranma (Ranma1/2), cursed Boy/Girl, heir to a dubious school of martial arts?

Is it Sawamura "Mad Dog" Seiji (Midori no Hibi), best fighter in town, owner of 'the devil's right hand' whenever there isn't a little girl attached to it. (probably not)

Is it Baki Hanma (Grappler Baki), more scars than brain cells, but just try beating him in a fight...?

Is it somebody I'm forgetting because it's late at night? You tell me.

Can't believe I'm getting in one of these again, but here goes. IMO, if you're talking about sheer power Goku (at the end of DBZ) wins hands down. His power is off the charts. Destroying planets is a side effect of their battles, merely "charging up" inflicts massive earthquake level collateral damage, etc.

Actual "skill", I'd have to to give it to Ken, the Fist of the Northstar with Ranma coming in a very very close second. Goku and his friends almost come across as "brawlers" more then MAs who use superhuman strength and energy powers to supplement their fighting. Ranma and Ken seem more skilled in actual techniques.

As for people left out, most of the Streetfighter characters? They're video game characters but have been in manga and anime.

Inuyasha could beat almost anyone, as long as he gets them to attack him with energy attacks. His Tessaiga has the power of Bakaryuha, or Backlash Wave, which reflects his opponent's power back at him at double power. Nothing survives that.

Of course the danger is that someone like Goku wouldn't need to use his energy attacks, but would simply pound him into jelly with his fists.

I'm weeding out characters who rely heavily on weapons. Gally/Alita has used many weapons, but it's also very obvious that her bare hands (such as they are, being a cyborg) are wickedly lethal...

As for strength, Maris the Chojo. Makes alien sucmbags pee in ther spacesuits. Nuff said.

Locke is a mentallist. Not much for hand to hand combat and not considered for this contest.

Maris is very strong. She is, however, not terribly skilled in combat and would probably never land a blow against any of the proposed competitors. Not even KotatsuNeko. (he's faster than he looks)

well, the Z-fighters usually are considered to have transcended conventional martial arts--their techniques are what allow them to fight at superhuman speeds, and to throw those tank and boulder shattering punches and kicks. So from that perspective, their attacks look unsophisticated, but are really just techniques stripped down to their most direct and efficient forms.

I'm voting for Kenshiro. The North Star & Southern Cross schools are, according to the manga, God's own brand of Kung Fu. 'Sides, unlike a Z-fighter, Ken can break skyscrapers with his face and feel no pain.

Alucard from Hellsing. You can reduce him to a little blood spatter on the floor, but he always regenerates, with a smug grin on his face - just before he rips you to shreds.

For raw power, though, I'd have to go with Son Goku. He ended up just this side of Galactus.
