Disable subscriptions?

I understand how to shut of a subscription to a topic once I have accidently signed up for one. Is there any way for me to specify that I never want to subscribe to any message board thread? I apparently keep subscribing.

Less extreme than burning my monitor, but I'm afraid either one will slow my internet speed unacceptably.

The mark all read button and the subscribe button are both very small and right next to each other. Is there any way to prevent subscribtions?

I have in fact set email notification to "no" already
