    Hide and Seek HD

    Dan,
    I'm not sure why this is happening, but it started with version 1.16. I launch HD, the splash screen comes up, and then goes away. I launch it again and it stays up and works fine. Here is what my log says:

    An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.
    Unexpected Signal : EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION occurred at PC=0x6D1B4618
    Function=[Unknown.]
    Library=C:\Program Files\HeroDesigner\jre\bin\fontmanager.dll

    NOTE: We are unable to locate the function name symbol for the error
    just occurred. Please refer to release documentation for possible
    reason and solutions.

    Ok...this actually sounds like an old issue that some folks were having.

    That "font manager" thing is what tips it off.

    Essentially what's happening is that one of the system fonts that Java is trying to use has become corrupted in some way. When Java tries to load it (through the system), the system throws an exception, which (obviously) Java cannot handle.....thereby crashing the app.

    There were a couple of ways to fix this, IIRC....from reinstalling the fonts that the system is looking for (cleaning up the problem) to redefining which fonts Java is going to be looking to use.

    I know that a few other folks had this problem during their initial installation.....perhaps they can chime in here and tell you which method worked for them.....

    (if not, I'll do a bit of research on it and let you know which files to edit....there was a system property that you can set which points to the fonts directory for Java to use).

    I had a couple fonts that were corrupted and had to delete. The fonts were not even going to be used, but I'm guessing it still checks all of them.

    Wonder if there's a fix for Java.

    Patiently waiting... sorta...

    I was just curious if there has been any breakthroughs on this problem. I haven't seen anymore posts and was curious.

    I'm just getting in from a rather long day....If no one gets to it before me, I'll get you some information on the workaround/fix over this weekend.
