    ?
That was odd. For some reason I thought this thread was locked. I was trying to figure out why.
    Nevermind I am a dork.

Re: UNITY 2010: A New Champions Campaign

It's not over yet! My players keep throwing curveballs at me, so I'm rolling with it. Here's the lastest update...

    ----------
    UNITY 2010 Recap for January 21 2006
Quasar took his team to the disabled battleship to make sure it was fully off-line. Team C headed for one of the undamaged battleships. Feigning damage from the explosion, Vilkacis asked to be allowed to dock. The enemy ship agreed, and the heroes parked their scout vessel in the hangar.

Red Dragon, his blood afire with the thrill of battle, opened the air lock and rushed out. The others followed a bit more cautiously – and found themselves completely surrounded by enemies. Xaraxthis, Chrakmavori, and Mon'dabi in battle armor formed a ring around the heroes...

Straight Arrow barked orders and the team leapt into action. Red Dragon and Tank charged into the midst of the enemy. Queen and Aurora hung back (trying to stay clear of the magnetic Xaraxthis) and sniped at the enemy. Mitarbeit assisted Tank, turning him from a combat machine into a much more dangerous one. Straight Arrow attempted to provide cover for his team. Ifrita pounded one Xaraxthis into oblivion, then was double-teamed and went down. Thich Nat Han attempted to revive her, but ended up fighting more aliens. Vilkacis wrapped his shadow-form around New Man, who tried to trick the aliens into thinking one of their own was among the heroes (which unfortunately didn't work, since the Xaraxthis don't have eyes or any other apparent sensory organs).

The heroes were cleaning their enemies' clocks. Red Dragon saw an opening and charged through to attack a larger suit of powered armor that seemed to be directing the others. His sword flashed, damaging the suit – but suddenly he realized that New Man was in terrible danger! Vilkacis was about to kill the team's psychic. "Look out, New Man!" the samurai screamed. "He's a traitor!"

Red Dragon rushed back across the battlefield to help his comrade. Vilkacis, realizing what was happening, fled into the air ducts above the hangar. New Man attempted (with no success) to break Red Dragon from his delusion (it seems that some tiny part of the samurai doesn't entirely trust Vilkacis!).

Vilkacis moved quickly through the air ducts and soon came to a point directly above the enemy commander. His shadow-form dropped over the damaged armor and engulfed it. A few seconds later, he stepped away from the armor and told Straight Arrow that the creature within had agreed to parlay. The armor opened up and a Mon'dabi stepped out – though the heroes couldn't see any difference, Vilkacis insisted it was one of his people.

The team began debating. Vilkacis argued passionately – he insisted that his people didn't intend for the humans to lose the war. The Mon'dabi would be defeated (as easily as the heroes defeated the alien flagship), and the Wraiths would immigrate to their new home. The technological windfall gained from the war would mean a new golden age for the people of Earth, and the war would eliminate the threat of the Mon'dabi for at least a generation.

However, he was also certain that the war was not necessary, and that the Wraiths could come to Earth without the need for a war. With enough Wraiths in positions of authority, they could turn the main part of the fleet back – but they would only do so if the humans agreed to allow them to come to Earth. Their plan involved sneaking in during the confusion and turmoil of the war; Vilkacis suggested that they could come to Earth without any need for subterfuge if the humans could be made willing to accept them.

Other people on the team were skeptical. "The Wraiths have destroyed dozens of cultures," Aurora insisted. "Just look at the Mon'dabi – their economy is in shambles, just because the Wraiths got tired of living with them. Are they going to do the same to Earth once they get tired of us?"

"The Wraiths have been doing this for thousands of years," Tank eruditely noticed. "I don't think they are going to change millennia of tactics just because we ask them to."

The Mon'dabi Commander/Wraith was quiet throughout the discussion, but eventually Aurora and Queen noticed more Wraiths (invisibly, in shadow-form) entering the room to witness the debate...

Tune in next week for more UNITY excitement!

Do we get the climactic conclusion to the Unity Sage this week or are you going to make use wait (shaking and sweating in our homes, crying out "why, damn you, why?")?

Since I am being demanding, I would also love to see write ups of the characters as the existed at the end of the series.

    Thanks for an entertaining saga.

Sorry y'all for the delay. The game did come to its earth-shattering (not literally) conclusion 2 weeks ago, but I've been too swamped with other things to write a recap. It's on my list of things to do. Sorry again, and thanks for hanging on!

Re: UNITY 2010: A New Champions Campaign

    :: blows a raspberry at Hooligan ::

Apologies for the long delay. Things came up and it totally slipped my mind. Here is the final episode (and the epilog) of UNITY 2010. Hope you enjoy!

    -----

UTC told the Wraiths that if they were serious about seeking a peaceful solution then they would stop the fleet immediately. After some debate, they agreed – but they had no control over the vanguard of the fleet, which was nearly to Earth. The heroes, still not fully trusting the alien shape-shifters, hightailed it back home to warn Earth of the coming invasion.

Once they arrived back home, Vilkacis went to talk to the Wraiths in UTB, and told them that there was a change of plans – the invasion was to stop. Myrmidon, Spellbinder, and the others were unsure what to make of this news.

While this was going on, the rest of the team rallied the superhero teams who they'd befriended during their tenure – and just in time, too, as the alien vanguard appeared in orbit around Earth. There was a terrific war as the Mondabi attempted to bombard cities into rubble, land ships full of shock troops in major strategic points, and generally invade our world… but everywhere they tried to gain a foothold, the heroes of Earth held them off. Bielo led Euroguard in stopping them from taking Germany. The New Warriors of Africa destroyed ship after ship over the Serengeti. Tiger Squad and the other Chinese teams helped defend Asia, and of course PRIMUS protected North America.

But the aliens fought with desperation – they were determined to take Earth, regardless of the cost. Orbital beams lanced down to scorch the landscape. The two UNTIL war-satellites fought valiantly in space, aided by a handful of cosmic-powered heroes.

And then, when the tide of the war could have tipped either way, a dozen more alien ships appeared in orbit. The heroes were aghast – until they heard the ships broadcasting a message to the rest of the fleet that they should stand down, that the war was over and that the fleet was going back home.

Some of the alien fleet attacked the new ships, but they were no match for the massive warfleet. In a matter of hours, the battle had ended. The main part of the Mondabi fleet, battered and bruised, limped back home to try and rebuild their own society. They would no longer be a threat to their neighbors, not for many generations.

The surviving Wraiths petitioned the UN for asylum, offering their vast knowledge and experience in exchange for a new home. They were willing to forego their usual methods (deception and subterfuge) and attempt to peacefully assimilate with the humans. There was a lot of skepticism – a generation of paranoia and hatred is hard to erase – but the UN agreed to consider it. The debate would rage for years. In the meantime, the UN (in conjunction with the Wraiths) began building a large base on the moon, where the aliens could study our culture – and us theirs.

All charges against UNITY Team C were dropped, and they were hailed as heroes across the world.

Wraiths were found in nearly every walk of life. Apart from members of UNTIL high command and UNITY itself, one was discovered to be running for President (Senator Goodkind), and several were high-ranking members of the European Union. Those who were outed were forced to resettle among their people on the moon. Of course, it's really difficult to find all of them...

    What came after…
Straight Arrow decided he'd had enough of international politics and resigned his UN commission. He went back to England where he could watch his children grow up. However, he wanted the UK to keep its representation in UNITY, so he recommended Albion to join the team. A soccer hooligan in the world's premier superteam – who'd have thought?

Aurora, though she had come to love the Earth and it's strange people, decided it was time to go back to the stars and rejoin her people, to tell them about the humans and their potential. She and Queen bid their farewells and headed back into space. It wasn't long before others of their people came to Earth as ambassadors (and to help keep an eye on the Wraiths).

During the run-up to the invasion, Red Dragon had made an oath to the spirit of the samurai that resided in his armor. The samurai granted Red Dragon more power to slay his enemies, but in exchange, the spirit began to slowly take hold of Red Dragon's soul, making him more and more bloodthirsty. When he killed a helpless opponent, UNITY was ordered to take him down – but with the help of his friends and his sister, he managed to subdue the wicked spirit and regain control of himself, and once more became a hero.

Tank, more at home in UNITY than anywhere else, remained on in the organization, being shuttled from team to team as his great strength and stalwart character were needed.

Ifrita stayed with UNITY for a number of years, but her true calling was politics. She became a UN diplomat, and then went into politics back in her homeland. She was eventually elected as Jordan's Minister of Defense – the highest post held by a woman in the Middle East.

Vilkacis was invited to rejoin his people on the moon, but his time among humanity made him feel more human than alien. He remained with UNTIL, acting as a liaison between the two people.

New Man was tired of being shot at, and shortly after the invasion he transferred to the UNTIL Psych division. He became instrumental in creating the UNITY Psionics Group, which utilized mentalists in intelligence-gathering and threat assessments.

Mitarbeit enjoyed the camaraderie and excitement that UNITY offered, and remained a member of the group – eventually getting promoted to leader of Team C.

Thich Nat Han stayed with UNITY for many years until he felt the call to return home. He became one of the greatest monks and spiritual leaders of his people, and it is said that he lived for 500 years.
