    Millenium City art continuity problem?

I just noticed something and I wonder if I am misreading something?
Check out P128 of Millennium City.
This illustration has to be a scene from The battle of Detroit, because at least two of the people in it died there, but the armor Dr. D is wearing wasn't the gear he had at that time! At least the helmets doesnt match.

Ok, Dr. Destroyer fought a large number of heroes in his secret lab in Detroit, killing many but ultimatly commiting suicide rather than being beaten. (Or so it was believed at the time) It was stated on page 77 of the Champions Universe that only his helmet was ever found. There is a nice illustration of someone holding it on the same page. This is important because the illustration shows Dr. D's 4th edition red, blue, and gold helmet I took this to mean that the armor he wore in that battle, that by the end was described as "cracked in a dozen places" either was or resembled his 4th edition gear.

His writup in CKC states that he redesigned and streamlined his armor. This fits with a comparason between his 4th and 5th edition gear. There is then a really great pict of the new armor, whch matches several others spread throughout the new Champions books.

The problem is, on P129 of Millenium City Dr. Destroyer is shown wearing his new armor while fighting Shadowboxer, the Scarlet Shield, and a couple others I don't recognize. They were killed in the battle of Detroit! By a 4th Editon Gear wearing Dr. Destroyer!

Well, I guess I can't really argue with that.....

In a way though it is kinda neat. Real comic book companies have all kinds of issues with different artists and writers who contradict each other from issue to issue. Having something like this happen in Champions makes it all the more authentic!

But I applaud your powers of observation. I'm way too enticed by the purty cover and shiny powers to ever notice such things.

Yes, but to win your "No Prize" you have to come up with a reason for the difference

    How about:

There was the Secret Crisis of 1985 which was a "war across space and time involving almost all of the heroes that had ever existed". Perhaps there was a brief moment when all the various incarnations of the heroes and villians clashed. After all (Hold on, cause I'm a real geek):
The statue of ShadowBoxer in memorial park (p135) shows him in a different costume (which strongly resembles shadowfist from 4E Viper), while the battle on P129 and his writup show him in his 5th Editon gear. Perhaps the statue was modeled off of the body found in the rubble, an alternate Shadowboxer who knew Seeker and co as the Champions and gave his life fighting (to him) an alternate verison of Dr. D?

Does this mean that the mysterious figure mentioned on P92 might not be an imposter?

Actually, I noticed that all three statues on p. 135 have costumes different from those depicted by their writeups. (Obviously, since comic book characters change costumes all the time, this picture just depicts an earlier or later costume for each hero...)

(Side note: I actually like the statues' costumes over the ones with the writeups, especially the one for Mister X.)

As to the picture on p. 128, I figure that depicts how Destroyer survived the battle. He wasn't the one battling the heroes to the end; it was one of his underlings wearing an inferior copy of his armor, while Dr. D changed into a prototype armor to make his escape. Unfortunately, none of the heroes shown in that picture survived to tell of his new armor or his escape. No time travel or alternate dimensions involved, just a quick change to get outta Dodge.

Okay, I explained both supposed inconsistencies. Do I get my "No Prize" now?

Storn did the picture of the memorial in the park and says he was not privy to all the info. Thus the differences between the statues and the other drawings. See his thread for details.

People are strange when you're a Tribble, faces seem ugly when you're alone.

Yeah, but props out to his version of Shadowboxer. The 'taped' hands and hooded warmup jacket make him look like his namesake. The picture with the writeup just made me feel like he was another guy in power armor.

    But he WAS wasn't he?

I like the write-up portrait because of how well it is drawn, and I dig Storn's statue because of the personality it shows. I think both are pretty cool.
