    Battlemap Fun

I'm going to be running an episode on a battlemap (maybe even two!) which may very well be turn out to be a major Viper incident in our campaign. For those of you who have the old Viper book, the Prime Serpent has gotten the components to create the U-1250. One hero has infiltrated Viper for months now (been out of active playing) and uncovered the location of where the testing will be taking place. Many villains in Viper's service will be there, just in case.

The heroes are going to be launching an attack on them this time, instead of reacting to a crisis caused by them. Loads of fighting to occur and lots of damage. The problem is: I have a mental block and can't think of a place where it'll be tested!

A desert is a bad place since there's no need for a battlemap. Caves are nice but nah, I nixed that.

    Ideas anyone? Think battlemap size.

A bunker in the mountains...that gives you a few buildings to work with, not just terrain. Red Skull used to keep a pretty sizable base inside a mountain in the Rockies. When Cap and SHIELD stormed it, it made for an interesting fight. One way in, apparently only one way out(but this is skull so of course there was another secret way out), a decent sized base inside - and a heck of a penalty for getting driven back.

How about an abandoned air field or airplane graveyard. Lots of open space as well as hangers and other buildings to add a little urban combat fun. Add some people living in trailers around the air field and you have some innocents to protect.

Make sure there are old airplanes or junked equipment around to be destroyed, thrown or generally trashed.

    Sounds fun. Good luck.

Well, I don't recall what the U-1250 is, so some answers may not be appropriate. What does it do? There may be some restraints on where it could be tested based on that (ie you're not going to test an A-bomb inside your base), or it's uses may indicate more appropriate places to test.

    WMD-type effects:
    *Major sporting event
    *Political rally
    *Awards ceremony/show

General "let's see how it works in the lab" effects:
*Redwood forest, lab itself inside tree w/road through it.
    *University.
*Industrial park. Great villain base cover, could be lots of dangerous things around.
    *Casino.
Zombies allow GMs to give players practice in outsmarting things. Start with mindless things like zombies - if the players succeed in outwitting them, start working your way up.

The testing has already started. It's being tested at Viper's secret underground lab inside Mt. St. Helen's!!!

Scientists seek source of Mount St. Helens blast

I don't know what a U-1250 does either. But this ash could be from an explosion, exhaust from a reactor, etc.

I didn't want to step on Hero Games' toes by writing out the entire desciption of it. Basically, it's a powerful energy AE RKA to be used against heroes. It's a mounted weapon requiring 2 people to utilize it.

Ah. Well then, the best place would be "wherever we can lure a hero team".

Take it out to the local army base.

    Oil refinery/storage tank farm.

    Train yard.

Yes, yes indeed. It figures you'd say that Supreme Serpent.. especially since you're going to be in my episode! You, along with all your loyal Viper criminals there to make sure you wipe out the heroes with the U-1250. I've heard of letting your source material speak on it's own but this is too much!

Waitaminute, I'm the GM, not the players. Oh, well, in that case, good ideas!
