    Modern Map Packs

    Hi Hero Gamers,

I found a killer set of gridless pdf maps that should work neat for any modern day Hero game. As they have no grid it is super easy to print a set of hexes on a sheet of plastic and tada...instant maps!

The product is called Modern Day Maps. It is from a company called LPJ. They are sold on RPGNow for $3! Here is a link to the first set. (There are a total of two sets.)

Have you or anyone else purchased this? If so, could you scan a small section and post it here? I couldn't find a link that showed the quality of these maps or how big or how comprehensive they are. I would be curious on scale for the hex overlays.

I just got the maps, they're decent, there's also a volume 2. Note that RPGNOW requires a $4.95 minimum to check out! But that's fine. Anyway, back to the maps, they're good but not great. They have sufficient detail for generic places, which is fine, but they are all simple line drawings and nothing fancy. They don't look pro at all (misspellings). But I think they are very well worth the money since they do cover a number of locations and are a quick assistance. Also, they do give a scale in feet and are fine for HERO-level mapping.

Whoops, I should note not all the maps give a scale. But you could figure it out easily enough with a little work.

How big are they? Are they just black and white? Is there any creativity in the drawings or are they something that anybody could come up with?

I bought these some time ago and wasn't to impressed by them. Not really helpful I thought. Sure, with a lot of work you could make them usable, but then honestly you could use that time to draw out your own maps on grid paper found free in downloads at several places on the internet.

What I have found EXTREMELY useful is the "Floor Plans" from Steve Jackson games. Yes, they are 16.95 a piece but my god!!
They are all in 1" hexes or 1" squares (one on either side.) The maps are high quality and generic enough for MANY uses.

So far they have several Traveller ships (no help really), but they have a large mansion, an underground lab, and a 3 story mall.

Let me tell you. Buy these. You won't regret it.

Physically they are one page (8.5 x 11), you would typically blow them up in many cases. They cover things like a large junk yard to an office.

They are just black and white. There's not much creativity, anyone could come up with them with some time, but they have small details here and there that are nice to not have to think about.

While I could come up with them, and in some cases have things I got from the net already, I like them because there's some things I don't have, they are generic so I can reuse them easily, and they were super-cheap. So it is a time-saver. Put it this way: it would take minimally a few hours to come up with the variety of maps, at least for me and I suspect most people, and for $8 versus my time...you do the math.

I agree re the Steve Jackson maps, I have the mall one and it's cool. I'm not sure why you say the Modern Maps require "a lot of work" to be usable. For $8 it already saved me a lot of time of searching on the net for some of the scenes (yes, some I had already gotten on the Internet, but many others had not).
