Icicle was removed because of a dispute over the rights to use her. So to be safe, she's been removed.

Whoa, wasn't aware. Does that mean the book she appeared in may not be getting any reprints soon?

Assuming you can tell us more, given it's a legal issue, I would understand if no one could at this time.

If I remember correctly I believe Heroic Publishing (the publisher who did the old Champions comic) is also stating that they have the rights to Icicle because the creator licensed her to them. I think the point of contention might be whether or not Hero Games purchased the rights to Icicle, or if it was one of those "rent-a-thug" deals from the past. I am sure it will all get worked out though.

I doubt anyone outside of the core DOJ team will ever know the full story on this. They're notoriously tight-lipped about anything that has "legal issue" in the descriptor... I guess it's part and parcel with having a former court lawyer as the creative lead of the company.

This is exactly why I assumed DOJ owned all full rights to Meriquai Falls and its associated characters the moment I signed the contract with Darren Watts and Dave Mattingly for my article in Digital Hero #2. Not that I picture Vixen (and any other MF character) ever becoming as popular as Icicle, mind you, but at least I can't raise a ruckus and force DOJ to remove a picture of Vixen from their website "just to be safe." DOJ owns MF, not me... Steve has granted me to privelege of continuing to develop it creatively, but I can't take MF away from him now.

Hero Fans deserve that sort of stability for all of Hero Games' creative property, and I support DOJ's policy of demanding full rights to anything they themselves publish.
