Sadly, I can relate to this. Usually the characters are built for fighting or for one specific area and follow with "I hope the other PCs have useful skills."

Having stated this, in the only high-speed PBeM game I'm in (I'm a player in five, only one of which posts daily) my PC has 62 points in noncombat skills (34 in combat related), most of which deal with his job. Out of 5 KS's, not one is "Supers" or even an AK.
Good-bye, and thanks for all the fish.

In a 7th Seas game my wife was running, I was playing a Cap'n Nick, captain of the dread pirate ship The Skull and the Rose. We raided a Montaigne ship and were in the process of mopping up the defenders when my character saw a lovely Montaigne noblewoman carrying a chest and running towards one of the lifeboats.

Cap'n Nick leapt to intercept her, brandished his sword, and said, "Not so fast, my dear. I'd like to take a better look at your chest. Also, I want to see what's in that box."

It is the start of a new Champions campaign. One of the players is determined that the superhero name he comes up with cannot be mocked in any way. As his character has the delusion that he is a Jedi a certain amount of mocking is inevitable and he is determined that it should not be added to. He has spent about 25 minutes on the phone discussing names that are mock-proof. The other players have been told his quest for a name that cannot be mocked so the challenge is on. He announces his hero name will be Vornar.

Two seconds later 'Vornar the Porn Star' had been created and the player was looking for a new name.

One of my players was notorious for naming chartacters if their player didn't come up with a good codename fast enough. (This gave us, among others, "Mgobo, the Human Taffy" - I still don't know where the 'mgobo' part came from). A new player was warned about this. She had a mystical sword that, when activated, generated armor and some other powers. About halfway through her first session, they sent her in to talk to the villan hunting the team figuring he wouldn't know her and she could get close. He asked her to identify herself, and she told him "My name is... Excalibabe!!"
    I'm not /evil/, I'm /differently motivated/...

Man, you can't say things like that to gamers! "Don't mock me!" is a sure invitation to be mocked.

Paradoxically enough, so is "Mock Me."

Amongst gamers, simple existance is a sure invitation to mockery...
Grant Morrison on Batman: "I love the fact that you can delve into a fictional character like this and get so much depth and so much history. He's kind of alive. He's been around longer than me and he'll be around when I'm long gone, so he's kind of more real than me."

    From another player:
"Millia, please understand. I am a liar, a blackguard and a scoundrel, and probably a few other words that escape me at the moment. Allow me to play to my strengths."

A friend of mine is coming into town and actually offered to GM. I told him about others who would like in on the game. His response...

"The more the merrier. It’s been a while since I ran a large-scale session, but I’m up for it. What characters are they likely to play, and do you have a quick overview of each one so I have some idea how to kill them?"
